Professional Craps
Welcome to HIGHROLLER, a realistic Las Vegas craps table!
You are standing beside a crowded craps table at AOKI's Casino on the Strip.
The shooter has just finished a hot roll and everyone at the table has made a
small fortune. You hand five crisp $100 bills to the dealer, who acknowledges
the transaction with a "Change, 500!" and passes the money to the boxman to
count. The dealer deposits a stack of white, red, green and black chips on the
table before you.
The stickman gives you the dice, and announces, "New shooter coming
out! Coming out! Get those bets down ..."
As you pick up the dice from the table, your heart begins to race with
excitement... You feel it in your bones... Lady Luck is with you tonight!

Professional Craps
RULES OF PLAY
Craps is a fast moving game in which two dice are thrown, with players
betting on the outcome of the rolls.
The initial roll of the dice is called the "come-out" roll. A player may
bet "with the dice," "against the dice," or may choose not to bet either way.
A player betting with the dice is called a "right" bettor. A player betting
against the dice is called a "wrong" bettor. Basically, right bettors win
when wrong bettors lose, and vice versa.
A right bettor wins if the come-out roll is a 7 or 11. These numbers are
also known as "naturals." A right bettor loses if the come-out roll is
a 2, 3, or 12. These numbers are also known as "craps." If any other
number is rolled, i.e., a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10, it is called "the point."
A right bettor wins if the point is "made," and loses if the point is "lost."
A point number is made if it repeats before a 7 is rolled. If a 7 is
rolled before the point repeats, the point is lost, and the shooter is
said to "seven-out." The dice continue to be rolled until the point is
made or the shooter sevens-out.
A right bettor places his/her bet on the PASS line. A wrong bettor places
his/her bet on the DON'T-PASS line. These bets are paid off at even money.
Wrong bettors win whenever right bettors lose, with the exception of a
craps-12 on the come-out roll. Las Vegas rules "bar" the 12, which means
it is treated as a push for DON'T-PASS bettors.
After the PASS/DON'T-PASS line bets are paid off, i.e., after a craps or
natural has been thrown on a come-out roll, or a point has been made or lost,
a new come-out roll is declared.
Players may also bet right or wrong on a non-come-out roll by making a
COME or DON'T-COME bet, respectively. A COME bet is like a PASS bet in that
a natural on on the next roll wins, a craps loses, and any other roll wins
if it repeats before the next 7. The only difference between a COME and a
PASS bet is that the COME bet is not made on the come-out roll. Similarly,
a DON'T-COME bet is like a DON'T-PASS bet made on a non-come-out roll.
Craps-12 is also barred for DON'T-COME bettors.
Any PASS/DON'T-PASS or COME/DON'T-COME bet may be supplemented with a
"free-odds" bet after a point has been established. A free-odds bet is so
named because it pays off at the true statistical odds, with no house
advantage. Odds bets are won or lost whenever their complementary PASS/COME
bets are won or lost. An exception to this is on the come-out roll, on
which odds on COME bets are "off" (not-working), although odds on DON'T-COME
bets continue to apply.
For example, if a $6 PASS-line bet were made and the come-out roll were a 5,
you could add a $6 odds bet to your original PASS-line bet. If you win, in
addition to getting your PASS and odds bets returned, you would collect $6 for
the PASS-line and $9 for the odds bet because the odds of a 7 showing before a
5 are 3:2.
You may also lay odds on DON'T-PASS and DON'T-COME bets. If you bet $6 on
the DON'T-PASS line and the point were a 5, you would lay $9 odds to win $6.
The examples given above illustrate "single free odds," so named because the
most the player can win on an odds bet is an amount equivalent to the original
wager. "Double free odds" is an odds bet that allows an amount equivalent to
double the original wager to be won.
In addition to betting right or wrong, it is possible to make other types
of bets. These bets are described in the following paragraphs.
A FIELD bet is a one-roll bet. As the name implies, a one-roll bet is won or
lost on the next roll. A FIELD bet is won if a 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, or 12 is
rolled, and lost otherwise. The 2 and 12 are paid off at 2:1 and the other
numbers are paid at even-money.
A PLACE bet is a bet on one of the place numbers, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10.
When you make a PLACE bet against a place number, you are betting that it
will repeat before a 7. This is similar to a COME bet, but the payoffs are
different. A 4 or 10 is paid off at 9:5, a 5 or 9 is paid off at 7:5, and
a 6 or 8 is paid off at 7:6. Place bets are not working on the come-out roll.
Odds may not be laid against any PLACE bet.
A BIG 6 bet is won if a 6 repeats before the next 7. Similarly, a BIG 8 bet
is won if an 8 repeats before a 7. If a 7 appears first, you lose your BIG 6
or BIG 8 bet. This bet is paid off at even-money.
A PROPOSITION bet is a one-roll bet. There are six possible PROPOSITION
bets: ANY CRAPS, ANY SEVEN, TWO, THREE, ELEVEN, or TWELVE. They are won if
the specified roll appears on the next throw of the dice. The payoffs are
as follows: ANY SEVEN, 4:1; ANY CRAPS, 7:1; TWO or TWELVE, 30:1, and THREE or
ELEVEN, 15:1.
A HARDWAYS bet is a bet covering one of the even numbered points, 4, 6, 8,
or 10. A hardways roll is a roll showing a double number. A "hard 4" is a
double 2, a "hard 6" is a double 3, and so on. All other combinations are
called "easy" rolls. A HARDWAYS bet on an even numbered point is won if the
number is rolled "hard" before it is rolled "easy" and before a 7 appears.
If a 7 appears first or the point is rolled "easy", the HARDWAYS bet is lost.
Hard 6 (3+3) and hard 8 (4+4) are paid off at 9:1. Hard 4 (2+2) and hard 10
(5+5) are paid off at 7:1.
GUIDE TO NOTATION
The next section describes how to operate the HIGHROLLER program.
Whenever you see the [*something*] symbol in this manual, it means "press
the key marked *something*". For example, if you read "enter [y]," it means
press the "y" key. If you read "press [RETURN]," it means you should press
the carriage-return key (note that it's not explicitly labelled "RETURN" on
standard IBM-PC keyboards).
HOW TO USE THIS PROGRAM
In HIGHROLLER, a menu of bet types will be displayed beside the craps table.
If you choose to bet before rolling, you must first choose the appropriate bet
type by using the [RIGHT-ARROW] or [LEFT-ARROW] keys. After you have done
this, hit [RETURN], after which you will be prompted for the amount of the bet. The house minimum is $2, the maximum is $500.
Enter the bet by typing a number between 2 and 500, followed by [RETURN].
You may alternatively select the bet type using the [F1] through [F10] function
keys. [F1] corresponds to the first menu item, [F2] to the second, and so on.
The current non-selected menu item is displayed in blinking text.
Once a menu item is selected, it is displayed in high intensity white text.
All bets are printed in red except for odds bets, which are displayed in blue.
When you are ready to roll the dice, the <RollDice> menu item should be
selected with [RETURN] or function key [F1].
Other useful commands are:
HELP [?] - To get on-line help, you may press [?] in response to any prompt.
FINANCIAL SUMMARY [s] - To get a financial activities summary, press [s].
QUIT GAME [ESC] - To quit the game, press [ESC].
Try experimenting with this program. Get more detailed descriptions of
the different types of bets by entering a [?] while the current
non-selected menu item is blinking.
~Press [RETURN] to roll the dice.
To make a bet, examine the menu of bet types and choose the appropriate menu
item by typing the [LEFT-ARROW] or [RIGHT-ARROW] keys until the desired bet
type is shown flashing on the screen (wrap-around is supported).
After moving the cursor to the desired bet type, press [RETURN].
You may alternatively select the bet type using the [F1] through [F10] function
keys. [F1] corresponds to the first menu item, [F2] to the second, and so on.
