  5. category in the 1995 Ziff-Davis Shareware Awards competition, and it
  6. got the PC Plus Gold Award in the May '95 issue.

  31. INTRODUCTION:
  32. -------------
  33. TextPad aims to provide the power and functionality to satisfy your most
  34. demanding text editing requirements.  It is Windows hosted, and comes in
  35. 16 and 32-bit editions.  Huge files can be edited by either - just choose
  36. the edition that works best with your PC.  The 32-bit edition can edit
  37. files up to the limits of virtual memory (see Specifications in the online
  38. help for full details), and it will work with Windows 95, Windows NT and
  39. Windows 3.1 with Win32s extensions.

  41. TextPad has been implemented according to the Windows 95 user interface
  42. guidelines, so great attention has been paid to making it easy for both
  43. beginners and experienced users.  In-context help is available for all
  44. commands, and in-context menus pop-up with the right mouse button.  The
  45. multi-document interface allows multiple files to be edited simultaneously,
  46. with up to 2 views on each file.  You can drag and drop text between files.

  48. In addition to the usual cut and paste capabilities, you can correct the
  49. most common typing errors with commands to change case, and transpose words,
  50. characters and lines.  Other commands let you indent blocks of text, split
  51. or join lines, and insert whole files.  Any change can be undone or redone,
  52. right back to the first one made.  Visible bookmarks can be put on lines.

  54. It also has a customizable tools menu, and integral file compare and search
  55. commands, with hypertext jumps from the matched text to the corresponding
  56. line in the source file (ideal for integrating compilers).

  69. INSTALLATION:
  70. -------------
  71.     *WARNING*:  If your diskette or ZIP file contains the 32-bit edition
  72.     of TextPad, SETUP.EXE is a 32-bit program.  It will not run on Windows
  73.     3.1 without Win32s.  If your diskette contains both editions, and you
  74.     only want to install the 16-bit edition, use SETUP16.EXE instead.

  76.     Installing From a ZIP File:
  77.         1) Unzip into a new temporary folder, with PKUNZIP 2.04g.
  78.         2) Run SETUP.EXE.
  79.         3) Follow the on-screen instructions, but install into a
  80.            different folder from that in step 1 above.
  81.         4) Delete the files unzipped in step 1 above.

  83.     Installing From a Diskette:
  84.         1) Run either SETUP.EXE or SETUP16.EXE (see above).
  85.         2) Follow the on-screen instructions.
  86.  
  87.     There is no need to modify your search path.
  88.  
  89.     IMPORTANT: If you have associated any file extensions with releases
  90.     of TextPad prior to 1.31, you must remake them for this release. This
  91.     will clear up the problem of grouping files with different extensions
  92.     together in Windows 95.  Make the associations using the Associations
  93.     tab on the Preferences dialog box.  It also allows the uninstall
  94.     program to clean up afterwards.

  100. RESTRICTED FEATURES:
  101. --------------------
  102.     The following features are only available to registered users:
  103.  
  104.     1) OLE2 drag and drop editing.  Local drag and drop editing is always
  105.        available, but scrolling has not been implemented.  This means that
  106.        you can drop text in the visible view, but you cannot scroll the
  107.        view whilst dragging.
  108.     2) Searching subdirectories with the Find in Files command.

  110. REGISTRATION:
  111. -------------
  112.     If you make use of TextPad you must register it.  Registered users
  113.     will receive a copy of the latest releases of both the 16 and 32-bit
  114.     editions, along with the Win32s and OLE2 files necessary for running
  115.     in 32-bit mode on Windows 3.1.
