Version 1.1 Release Date: February 29, 1996
===========================================
This release has been built using Microsoft Visual C++ 4.0.
Installation
============
To install Fractal Imager, run:
SETUP.EXE
either from inside a console window OR select FILE | RUN from the Program Manager.
Under Windows 95 select Start/Run and specify SETUP.EXE .
Fractal Conversion of GIF and Colormapped Files
===============================================
GIF files and images that are colormapped, especially computer-generated
artwork, may be larger in the Fractal Image Format (FIF) than in their original
format. However, conversion to FIF does provide resolution independence and
online zooming for the World Wide Web.
Win32s Version
==============
Fractal Imager 1.1 requires Win32s version 1.30.166 (or later) to run under
Windows 3.1 or Windows 3.11. This version can be downloaded from Iterated Systems' Web
site along with Fractal Imager.
Known Problems
==============
1) When using Fractal Imager under Win 3.1, images larger than 16Mb cannot
be opened for display. Use batch mode to compress these large images under
Win 3.1, or use either Windows NT or Windows 95 for full functionality.
2) When you use the control panel to change printer settings such as
Landscape/Portrait, they do not take effect in Fractal Imager until the
next time it is started.
3) In 16 color mode, the colors available on your system may not be suitable
for displaying some images. Use a display mode with more colors for better
results.
4) Displaying black/white images with color images on a 256 color (or less)
display mode may result in a poor color usage. Only the active image will
be fully represented by the available colors.
5) Fractal Imager requires Win32s version 1.30.166 or later.
If another application later installs an earlier version of Win32s, then
Fractal Imager will not run.
6) Color plane information in generated RAS files is in BGR (Blue-Green-Red)
order. Some applications require these files to be in RGB order.
7) In batch mode you are allowed to specify a single physical size for all
images being compressed. This physical size needs to match the aspect
ratio of all of the images.
8) In a batch job, long filenames will be converted to the 8.3 format.
The batch editing window will malfunction if you select files from a
directory with spaces in the name, if the directory is also the "Target"
directory on a local drive, or if the directory is on a network drive.
9) WINDOWS NT 3.5.1 USERS: Please be sure to install Win NT 3.51 Service Pack 3,
available from Microsoft. This service pack fixes a memory leak which can cause the
software to run out of memory during routine processing.
10) Under Windows 95, the dragging of multiple image files onto the Fractal
Imager desktop is not supported.
