  42. I. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION.
  43.  
  44. ImgViewer/32 is a Windows95/NT program for viewing and printing 
  45. digital images in a variety of standard formats.  Image formats 
  46. supported include GIF, .BMP, PCX, TGA, TIF, .JPG, and .PNG. GIF, 
  47. PNG, and PCX provide compression of 256-color images, while .JPG and 
  48. PNG provides compression for 16-million color images, thus saving 
  49. disk space.  The Help file contains a section which discusses 
  50. the advantages/disadvantages of each format.
  51.  
  52. ImgViewer/32 has editing features and file conversion routines built 
  53. in, which allow you to change images to suit your needs.  You can 
  54. crop, resize, stretch, rotate, mirror, flip, sharpen, soften, extract 
  55. edges, negate and adjust brightness, contrast and gamma.
  56.  
  57. A quick Zoom Tool provides instant magnification of areas of an 
  58. image, for close inspection.
  59.  
  60. Full documentation is included in the form of a Windows Help file.  
  61. When you desire help, press your F1 function key for context-sensitive 
  62. help, or press the help button if you are in a dialog box.
  63.  
  64. ImgViewer/32 is shareware.  It is fully functional and provides 
  65. all features that are included in the registered version, but 
  66. it will "nag" non-registered users occasionally.  You are 
  67. entitled to evaluate the program for a period of 30 days, after 
  68. which you are expected to register for continued use.  When you 
  69. register, you will receive a copy that includes a key file that 
  70. eliminates the nag screens for the current and future versions.  
  71.  
  72. ImgViewer/32 contains functions which can read and write the .GIF format, 
  73. which contains compression technology covered by U.S. Patent No. 
  74. 4,558,302, owned by the Unisys corporation.  The author of ImgViewer/32 has 
  75. obtained a license from Unisys, and pays a royalty on each 
  76. sale, to use this technology. The following statement is 
  77. required by that license:
  78.  
  79.     "Use of this software is permitted only to the extent
  80.     reasonably required to determine whether to purchase
  81.     the software.
  82.  
  83.     "After payment is made, use of this software is limited
  84.     to use on only a single personal computer or
  85.     workstation which is not used as a server.  An
  86.     additional payment is required for each use on
  87.     another personal computer or workstation.
  88.  
  89.     "Only a single copy may be made of this software
  90.     solely for backup or archival purposes.  The software
  91.     may also be transferred to a single hard disk.
  92.  
  93.     "Any use of this software in violation of the above is
  94.     not licensed.

  105. II. Program requirements.
  106.  
  107. ImgViewer/32 requires an IBM compatible 486 or better, running 
  108. Windows 95, or Windows NT, with at least 12 megs of RAM and VGA or 
  109. better graphics.  Recommended: Pentium 75 or better with an 
  110. accelerated graphics adapter.
  111.  
  112. Most operations require a mouse.
  113.  
  114. Graphics files can be quite large, particularly with true-color, so a 
  115. large hard disk is recommended.  ImgViewer/32 will require about 2 
  116. megs for program installation.
  117.  
  118. III. Installing ImgViewer/32
  119.  
  120. To install ImgViewer/32, run the included setup program.  If the 
  121. program is on a floppy disk, you can use File/Run in the Program 
  122. Manager and type a:\ivsetup or b:\ivsetup, whichever drive is involved.  
  123. You can use the same technique to run setup from a directory on your 
  124. hard drive by supplying the full path, such as c:\temp\ivsetup.  
  125. Alternatively you can use File manager to find the files and 
  126. double-click on IVSETUP.EXE.
  127.  
  128. Windows 95/NT-4 users can use the "Add/Remove Programs" item in the 
  129. Control Panel to find and start IVSETUP.
  130.  
  131. If you obtained ImgViewer/32 by downloading it from a computer 
  132. Bulletin Board (BBS) or another online source, two necessary files 
  133. may not have been included.  You will need files called VB40032.DLL 
  134. and MFC40.DLL, if they do not happen to already be on your 
  135. system.  Information on obtaining these files are in section V.
  136.  
  137. IV.  Getting Started.
  138.  
  139. Double-click the ImgViewer/32 icon to start the program.  If this is 
  140. not a registered copy you may see a shareware "nag" screen.  This 
  141. screen will only be repeated every 10 days, so as to not unduly 
  142. interfere with your operation of the program.  Click OK, or you may 
  143. choose to print an order form.

  145. When you see the main program window, Click the "open file" icon at the 
  146. left end of the icon bar, and then browse for image files to view.  
  147.  
  148. If you would like to alter the image, most of the items in the Image 
  149. menu are simple.  Browsing the help file will provide you with more 
  150. information on the image-altering functions.   
  151.  
  152. V.  FILES AND UNINSTALLING
  153.  
  154. If, when you install ImgViewer/32, you are told that one or more 
  155. system files are needed (or the program fails to run with a message 
  156. that one of these files is missing), you will need to obtain them.  
  157. Both files should be placed in the Windows\System directory (System32 
  158. for NT).  Because they are required for many programs they are not 
  159. usually packaged with any programs for download from online services.  
  160. They ARE included if you got the program on disk from the author.  The 
  161. two files are:
  162.  
  163. VB40032.DLL, A "runtime" library for programs written in Visual Basic 
  164. 4.0.  This file is almost always available from any source that has 
  165. ImgViewer/32 available.
  166.  
  167. MFC40.DLL, A library for components written in Visual C++ version 4.  
  168. As with the VB runtime, this file is generally also available from any 
  169. source for ImgViewer/32.  
  170.  
  171. MFC40.DLL must be present for ImgViewer/32 to properly 
  172. install.  If it is not, the setup must be run again after the 
  173. file is obtained.
  174.  
  175. The MFC40.DLL version must be 4.0.5277 or newer.  Attempting to 
  176. run ImgViewer/32 with older versions of MFC40.DLL will result 
  177. in an error message indicating that the program was "unable to 
  178. register or load" IK32.OCX.  In that case, obtain a newer 
  179. version from one of the sources below and re-run the setup.  
  180. You can determine the file version by right-clicking in 
  181. Explorer, selecting Properties, and the Version tab.

  200. When ImgViewer/32 is installed, a program (UNINSTAL.EXE) and a data 
  201. file (INSTALL.LOG) are placed in the ImgV32 directory.  The 
  202. following information is provided to aid in removing the 
  203. program in case those files are lost or damaged.
  204.  
  205. Files distributed with ImgViewer/32:
  206.  
  207. IVSETUP.EXE 
  208. This file contains all of the program files.  Running it will 
  209. install of the files where they belong, and will also produce a 
  210. record and program that can be used to uninstall this package. 
  211.  
  212. README.TXT 
  213. The text file you are reading now.  It is placed outside 
  214. the main install program so that it is readable before the 
  215. program is installed. 
  216.  
  217. VENDINFO.DIZ, FILEID.DIZ, VENDINFO.DOC
  218. Information files for shareware distributors and online 
  219. services.  These explain distribution rights and allowable 
  220. methods.
  221.  
  222. Files installed by running IVSETUP.EXE:
  223.  
  224. Main Program directory files IMGV32.EXE, IMGV32.HLP, IMGV32.CNT 
  225. README.TXT, UNINSTAL.EXE, INSTALL.LOG.

  227. Windows\System directory files
  228. IK32.OCX, MSGHOO32.OCX, MSVCRT40.DLL, OLEPRO32.DLL
  229.  
  230. Registered users will have one additional file: IV32_REG.KEY.  
  231. This file must be in your ImgV32 directory, and will keep the 
  232. startup shareware screen from appearing.  If you upgrade to a 
  233. new version of ImgViewer/32, do not delete this file - it will work 
  234. with all future versions.
  235.  
  236. Files created by ImgViewer/32:
  237.  
  238. ImgViewer/32 creates some temporary files with .TMP 
  239. extensions in the directory pointed to by your TEMP variable.  
  240. If there is no TEMP variable the files will be in the ImgV32 
  241. directory.  Under normal use, the program will clean these up 
  242. when it exits.  If the program crashes it can leave remnant .TMP 
  243. files which should be removed manually as is true of all remnant 
  244. temporary files.

  246. Uninstalling ImgViewer/32:
  247.  
  248. If the UNINSTAL.EXE program and INSTALL.LOG file have been left 
  249. intact in the ImgV32 directory, running the program will remove all 
  250. files that were installed with ImgViewer/32. If the UNINSTAL program 
  251. has been removed, use the file list above to determine which files 
  252. to remove.

  254. VI.  Troubleshooting.
  255.  
  256. If you have any problems with ImgViewer/32, please contact the 
  257. author, even if you are not a registered user.  A fix may be 
  258. available, or you may help the program become better by your 
  259. report.  Be as clear and concise as possible in describing problems.
  260.  
  261. VII. Obtaining images.
  262.  
  263. If you regularly use Computer BBS systems or online sources such as 
  264. Compuserve, America Online, or the Internet, you will find a wealth 
  265. of images that can be downloaded.  These images are usually in the 
  266. .GIF or .JPG formats to reduce download time.
  267.  
  268. The author is maintaining a small collection of his scans of his own 
  269. photos and those of users where permission has been granted.  It is 
  270. available by FTP from redshift.com/arcatpet/wwplus/images Files are in 
  271. .JPG format.  Thumbnails are available at the website

  274. You may send two pictures or 35mm slides with your 
  275. registration, for free scanning.  The originals will be 
  276. returned.  Additional scanning is available; contact the author 
  277. for details.

  279. VIII.  Getting future Upgrades.
  280.  
  281. When you order ImgViewer/32 from the author, you will receive a copy 
  282. of the latest version and an ownership key that permanently enables 
  283. the program.  That key file will work with future versions of the 
  284. program, so no upgrade fee will be required, but you will need 
  285. to find and download those versions as they occur.
  286.  
  287. The author maintains a current copy available for internet FTP.

  293. author's forum.  Current versions will be in the library of 
  294. that forum.

  296. On Compuserve, recent versions can be found in several forums, 
  297. including WINAV, GRAPHSUP, and PHOTOFORUM.

  299. The author does not maintain a presence on other online 
  300. services such as MSN and Prodigy, but recent copies are still 
  301. usually found there.

  303. Registered users who do not have online access may get a disk copy 
  304. from the author for a fee of $5 ($7 non-US).  Send a short note 
  305. indicating your registered status and requesting the latest copy.  
  306. Please use the same name under which you ordered originally.

  308. IX.  Purchase and Distribution.
  309.  
  310. ImgViewer/32 is shareware.  Free use is extended to any user 
  311. for an evaluation period of 30 days.  For use to be continued, 
  312. the program must be registered with the author.  Price is $25.00.  
  313. California residents please add $1.81 sales tax, and non-US 
  314. buyers should include $2.00 for airmail shipping.  All 
  315. funds should be drawn on a US Dollar account. A convenient form 
  316. for ordering is included in the Help file (and may be 
  317. printed from there).  A toll-free order number will also be 
  318. found on the order form and in the "about" box.

  320. As a purchase incentive, the author will provide on request two 
  321. free scanned images from your original prints or slides, when sent 
  322. with the order.

  324. Commercial use:  ImgViewer/32 may be used commercially, as long as there is 
  325. a registered copy for each computer/terminal that is using it.  
  326. Bulk licensing is available.
  327.  
  328. You may freely distribute ImgViewer/32 as long as no fees are charged 
  329. for the program, and all necessary files are included.  Commercial 
  330. Shareware vendors should read the included VENDINFO.DIZ file for 
  331. details. If you are a registered user, do not distribute the file 
  332. IV32_REG.KEY, which identifies you as the user (This identification 
  333. shows up in the "About" box).
