  17. You can purchase the complete version of PowerDesk for only

  20. also send the PowerDesk Order form to MicroHelp. The Order
  21. form is located in your PowerDesk folder and can be accessed
  22. via the PowerDesk Start Menu. (The Order form filename is
  23. ORDER.DOC and is normally placed in C:\Program Files\PowerDesk
  24. as a default). PowerDesk is also available from your favorite
  25. retailer.

  44. a) PowerDesk is designed exclusively for the Windows 95 desktop 
  45. User Interface.  Windows NT, version 3.51, does not support the 
  46. Windows 95 desktop User Interface; therefore PowerDesk will not 
  47. run on Windows NT 3.51.

  49. b) Quick View, a Windows 95 component, or Quick View Plus, an 
  50. Inso Corporation product, are required for the ExplorerPlus 
  51. Viewer Pane tool.  See details under "Quick View and Quick View 
  52. Plus" below.

  55. 4) Quick View and Quick View Plus
  56.  
  57. Quick View is a component of Windows 95 and is required for 
  58. using the ExplorerPlus Viewer Pane.  This component is not 
  59. provided on the Windows 95 disk set; it is only included on the 
  60. Windows 95 CD-ROM (both upgrade and full product).

  62. Note:  The Quick View component is not part of the default 
  63. setup configuration for Windows 95 and needs to be installed as 
  64. an Accessory.

  66. To install Quick View from the CD-ROM, choose Settings in the 
  67. Windows 95 Start menu.  Select Control Panel and select 
  68. Add/Remove Programs.  Click on the Windows Setup Tab and select 
  69. Accessories.  Scroll through the list to find Quick View, 
  70. select Quick View by clicking in the box and click OK.

  72. If you do not have Windows 95 on CD-ROM, you can download the 
  73. component from the Microsoft on-line services via CIS, Internet 
  74. or the BBS.

  76. Quick View Plus is an enhanced version of the Windows 95 Quick 
  77. View component.  It is fully compatible with ExplorerPlus and 
  78. enhances the capability of the ExplorerPlus Viewer Pane.  Quick 
  79. View Plus does not require that Quick View be installed in 
  80. order to run; it actually replaces or can be used in place of 
  81. Quick View.  To order Quick View Plus, or for more information 
  82. on this product, please review the Help topic "Upgrading Viewer 
  83. Files".

  86. 5) Undocumented Features

  88. a) Canceling a ZIP operation   (ExplorerPlus)
  89. A zip or compression can be canceled by pressing ESC, the 
  90. backspace key or the spacebar.
  91.  
  92. b) Associating ZIP archives with ExplorerPlus PowerDesk 
  93. ExplorerPlus allows you to easily open, view and manage ZIP 
  94. archive files.  You will have the option at Setup to 
  95. automatically associate ZIP archives with ExplorerPlus.  If you 
  96. say Yes to this option, a double click on a ZIP archive will 
  97. open the file with ExplorerPlus. This feature also adds an 
  98. additional item to the right mouse popup menu: Copy To/Move To 
  99. and Zip To for standard files or Zip To and Add to Zip for ZIP 
  100. archive files.

  102. c) Changing Associations   (ExplorerPlus) 
  103. PowerDesk ExplorerPlus provides an Open With dialog under the 
  104. File menu that allows you to create or change associations for 
  105. individual files.

  107. d) "Send To" options   (ExplorerPlus)
  108. Windows 95 add-on features for the "Send To" right mouse popup 
  109. are supported and will be displayed.
  110.  
  111. e) System Monitor Alarms   (Toolbar)
  112. Alarms may be set for the following System Monitors: Free 
  113. Memory, Free System Resources, Free User resources, Free GDI 
  114. Resources, Free Space on Disk x.  When the type of System 
  115. Monitor is selected in the Properties Dialog, an Alarm tab will 
  116. appear and you may set the parameters for the alarm.

  118. f) Version 1.1 Release Notes
  119. Many new features have been added to PowerDesk. The Release Notes
  120. for PowerDesk 1.1 are posted on the Web site (microhelp.com),
  121. CIS Forum (GO MICROHELP), and the BBS (770/516-1497).  They were
  122. not embedded in this copy of the software to conserve download time.

  125. 6) Issues and Workarounds
  126.  
  127. a) Editing ZIP Files in the Viewer Pane   (ExplorerPlus)
  128. A zip file may be viewed in the Viewer Pane and a right click 
  129. in the Viewer Pane provides an Open option.  While this action 
  130. allows you to edit and make changes to the file, it does not 
  131. allow you to save the changes.  This is because the file you 
  132. are looking at is really a temp file; if you choose to edit in 
  133. this mode it will be necessary to Cut/Copy and Paste your 
  134. changes to a new file in order to save the edits.

  136. b) Folders Stuck in Open (-) Position   (ExplorerPlus)
  137. If a folder seems to get stuck in an open position with a 
  138. constant minus (-) sign, pressing F5 will refresh the screen 
  139. and correct the folder status display.
  140.  
  141. c) Long File Name Folders on a Network   (ExplorerPlus)
  142. ExplorerPlus constantly monitors open drives and folders to 
  143. recognize changes and refresh the screen appropriately.  Open 
  144. folders with long filenames on a network drive use considerable 
  145. resources to handle the monitoring. To optimize performance and 
  146. reduce the impact on system resources, have these folders open 
  147. only when necessary.

  149. d) MultiView and Cascade or Tile Horizontally/Vertically from 
  150. ExplorerPlus   (Toolbar) 
  151. MultiView allows you to have applications opened in a series of 
  152. virtual screens.  When the applications in each MultiView 
  153. screen are maximized and ExplorerPlus is opened, a Window 
  154. selection in ExplorerPlus of New + Cascade, New + Tile 
  155. Horizontally or New + Tile Vertically, will grab all open 
  156. applications and place them on the current desktop in a 
  157. normalized view.  This effect pulls all applications out of the 
  158. individual MultiView screens.  Maximizing each application will 
  159. put the application back into its respective MultiView screen.  
  160. When working with MultiView it is recommended that you do not 
  161. use the ExplorerPlus New + Cascade/Tile functions.

  163. e) MultiView and Cascade or Tile Horizontally/Vertically from the 
  164. Taskbar   (Toolbar) 
  165. MultiView allows you to have applications opened in a series of 
  166. virtual screens.  When you right click on the Taskbar and 
  167. choose Cascade, Tile Horizontally or Tile Vertically, Windows 
  168. 95 will grab all open applications and place them on the 
  169. desktop as specified.  This effect pulls all applications out 
  170. of the individual MultiView screens.  When working with 
  171. MultiView it is recommended that you do not use the system wide 
  172. Cascade or Tile functions.

  175. 7) SDK
  176.  
  177. The PowerDesk Software Development Kit (SDK) allows C and C++ 
  178. programmers to develop Tools for use in PowerDesk Toolbars. The 
  179. extensibility of PowerDesk Toolbar through the use of the SDK 
  180. greatly enhances the functionality that you can make available 
  181. to Toolbar users.  The SDK can be used with any Windows C or 
  182. C++ compiler.  A programmer using the SDK should be familiar 
  183. with Windows programming and should have the Win 95 SDK as 
  184. well.

  186. The samples provided with the SDK are a good template for the 
  187. creation of your own Tools.
  188.  
  189. The SDK has free Technical Support via E-mail or FAX.  The 
  190. Technical Support help desk will not answer questions over the 
  191. phone but will refer callers to the use of E-mail or FAX.  An 
  192. answer will be returned to users via E-mail, FAX or by 
  193. telephone, depending on the nature of the question and response.
