  103. 1.  WHAT IS SNAGIT/32?
  104. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
  105.   SnagIt/32 is the Windows NT and Windows 95 version of the popular
  106.   screen capture utility, SnagIt.  SnagIt has been providing Microsoft
  107.   Windows users with an easy way to capture and print Windows screens
  108.   since it was first released in 1991. In "Windows 3.1 Secrets,"
  109.   author Brian Livingston calls SnagIt "the print utility Microsoft
  110.   Windows forgot."
  111.  
  112.   SnagIt/32 allows Windows users to capture an entire screen, a
  113.   portion of the screen, or a single window or icon.  SnagIt/32 also
  114.   accepts input from the Windows clipboard, or a Windows bitmap (BMP)
  115.   file.
  116.  
  117.   Once captured, SnagIt/32 sends the image to the printer, the
  118.   clipboard, or a file, depending on the output option specified.
  119.  
  120.   Captured images can be pasted into other Windows applications such
  121.   as word processors and desktop publishing programs via the Windows
  122.   clipboard, or by saving the image to a graphic file and later
  123.   importing the file into the desired application.
  124.  
  125.   SnagIt/32 functionality can easily be added to other Windows
  126.   applications since SnagIt/32 provides full DDE support.

  128.   SnagIt/32 also provides MAPI support which allows captured images
  129.   to be sent easily in an e-mail message.

  132. 2.  SNAGIT/32 SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
  133. ---------------------------------------------------------------------
  134.   In order to run SnagIt/32, your system must meet these
  135.   specifications:
  136.  
  137.   o  An IBM PC or compatible that meets the minimum hardware
  138.      requirements of Microsoft Windows NT or Windows 95;
  139.  
  140.   o  Microsoft Windows NT 3.5x or Windows 95;
  141.  
  142.   o  A mouse or other pointing device;
  143.  
  144.   o  For printed output, a Windows-supported printer that can print
  145.      bitmaps. (This includes most of the laser, dot matrix and ink
  146.      jet printers that Windows supports.  Plotters cannot print
  147.      bitmaps, and so cannot print images captured with SnagIt/32.)

  165. 3.  GETTING HELP
  166. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
  167. 3.1 Using SnagIt's On-line Help
  168.  
  169.   SnagIt's on-line Help system is compatible with the Windows Help
  170.   subsystems.  The SnagIt Help file contains all of the information
  171.   you'll need to use SnagIt, except for the SnagIt installation
  172.   procedure. This (README.TXT) file describes how to install SnagIt.
  173.  
  174.   To access SnagIt Help, select Help from the SnagIt menu bar, then
  175.   Help Index from the drop-down menu.
  176.  
  177.   To get a quick overview of SnagIt essentials, select Quick Help from
  178.   the Help menu.
  179.  
  180.   To acquire information about your screen mode and printer type,
  181.   select System Info from the Help menu.
  182.  
  183.   When you register SnagIt, you will receive a software key that will
  184.   disable the evaluation time-limit and remove all registration
  185.   reminder screens.

  282. 5.  KNOWN PROBLEMS OR LIMITATIONS

  284.     o  SnagIt/32 hangs on e-mail output on Windows 95 if only 16-bit
  285.        MS Mail has been configured (i.e. MAPI is in use, but neither
  286.        MS Exchange or any other 32-bit MAPI mail client has been
  287.        configured).

  290. 6.  SETUP AND CONFIGURATION
  291. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
  292. 6.1 Installation Instructions
  293.  
  294.   The SnagIt/32 installation program SETUP.EXE is a Microsoft Windows
  295.   application.  You must have Windows NT or Windows 95 installed
  296.   prior to installing SnagIt/32.  To install SnagIt/32, perform the
  297.   following steps:
  298.  
  299.   1. Start Windows, if you haven't already done so.
  300.  
  301.   2. Insert the SnagIt/32 diskette into a floppy drive.
  302.  
  303.   For Windows 95 users:
  304.  
  305.   3. From the Start menu, select Run
  306.  
  307.   For Windows NT users:
  308.  
  309.   3. From the Program Manager menu bar, choose File, and select Run
  310.      from the drop down menu.
  311.  
  312.   For all users:
  313.  
  314.   4. In the dialog box, enter:
  315.           a:\setup
  316.      (If you are installing SnagIt/32 from a diskette drive other than
  317.       the A drive, you will need to change the drive letter in the
  318.       command line above.)
  319.  
  320.   5. Click on the OK button.
  321.  
  322.   6. When you have finished entering the setup information, click on
  323.      the Install button to install SnagIt/32.
  324.  
  325. 6.2  Uninstall Instructions
  326.  
  327.   If after installing SnagIt Pack, you find it necessary to
  328.   remove the software from your computer, perform the following steps:
  329.  
  330.   Uninstall instructions for Windows 95
  331.  
  332.   1. Run the Windows 95 Control Panel
  333.  
  334.   2. Open the Add/Remove Programs applet from Control Panel.
  335.  
  336.   3. Select SnagIt from the list of applications that can uninstalled
  337.      by Windows.
  338.  
  339.   4. Click on the Add/Remove button to uninstall SnagIt.
  340.  
  341.   Uninstall instructions for Windows NT
  342.  
  343.   1. Select the FILE RUN menu option in Program Manager.
  344.  
  345.   2. Type in the command line the following:
  346.  
  347.      TSCUNST /UN
  348.  
  349.   3. Press OK to uninstall SnagIt.
  350.  
  351.   If the uninstall program encounters errors, see the following
  352.   section for uninstall instructions.
  353.  
  354. 6.3  Manual Uninstall Instructions
  355.  
  356.   Here are the steps you can take to manually uninstall SnagIt from
  357.   your computer.
  358.  
  359.   1. Start Windows, if you haven't already done so.
  360.  
  361.   For Windows 95 users:
  362.  
  363.   2. From the Start Menu, select Settings and then Taskbar. Now
  364.      configure your Start Menu Programs by clicking on the Advanced
  365.      button.
  366.  
  367.   3. Find the program group that SnagIt/32 was installed in. Click
  368.      once on the SnagIt/32 filename to highlight it. Press the delete
  369.      key. Confirm that you wish to delete the program item.
  370.  
  371.   4. If you selected "Start SnagIt/32 when Windows Starts" when
  372.      installing SnagIt/32, delete SnagIt/32 from the Startup group.
  373.  
  374.      Follow step #2 and then find the Startup group. Click once on
  375.      the SnagIt/32 icon to highlight it. Press the delete key. Confirm
  376.      that you wish to delete the program item.
  377.  
  378.   5. Run Windows Explorer and change to the directory that you
  379.      installed SnagIt/32 in. Delete the files SnagIt32.EXE and
  380.      SnagIt32.HLP.
  381.  
  382.   For Windows NT users:
  383.  
  384.   2. In Program Manager, find the program group that SnagIt/32 was
  385.      installed in. Click once on the SnagIt/32 icon to highlight it.
  386.      Press the delete key. Confirm that you wish to delete the program
  387.      item.
  388.  
  389.   3. If you selected "Start SnagIt/32 when Windows Starts" when
  390.      installing SnagIt/32, delete SnagIt/32 from the Startup group.
  391.  
  392.      In Program Manager, find the Startup group. Click once on the
  393.      SnagIt/32 icon to highlight it. Press the delete key. Confirm
  394.      that you wish to delete the program item.
  395.  
  396.   4. Run File Manager and change to the directory that you installed
  397.      SnagIt/32 in. Delete the files SnagIt32.EXE and SnagIt32.HLP.
  398.

  400. 7.  STARTING AND USING SNAGIT
  401. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
  402.   To start SnagIt, double-click on the SnagIt icon in the Accessories
  403.   group.  (If you specified a group other than Accessories during
  404.   SnagIt installation, look in that group for the SnagIt icon.)
  405.  
  406.   Double-clicking on the SnagIt icon will execute SnagIt and bring
  407.   it to the foreground in its maximized form.  When SnagIt is
  408.   maximized, you may change any of the setup options (input, output,
  409.   format, etc.) from the SnagIt menus.
  410.  
  411.   You can also invoke SnagIt (that is, instruct SnagIt to capture an
  412.   image) while it is maximized, though it will usually be more
  413.   convenient to minimize SnagIt before doing your screen captures.
  414.  
  415.   If you selected the "Load when Windows starts" checkbox during
  416.   installation, SnagIt will start automatically the next time you
  417.   start Windows.
  418.  
  419. 7.1 SnagIt Default Settings
  420.  
  421.   When you install SnagIt, it uses the following default options:
  422.  
  423.   o  Input is set to Screen.  This means that when SnagIt is invoked,
  424.      it will capture the entire Windows desktop.
  425.  
  426.   o  Output is set to Printer.  This means that when SnagIt is
  427.      invoked, it will send the captured image to the Windows default
  428.      printer for printing.
  429.  
  430.   o  Format is set to Color.  This means that SnagIt will capture the
  431.      image with the screen colors intact.  (In most cases you can
  432.      print images using this format setting, even if your printer is
  433.      not a color printer. For additional information about SnagIt
  434.      format options, see the Format options topic in the SnagIt Help
  435.      file.)
  436.  
  437.   o  Printer Scale is set to Fit on Page. This means that SnagIt will
  438.      output the captured image (on paper) at a size similar as the
  439.      image appears on the Windows screen but will reduce the image if
  440.      it is longer than one page.
  441.  
  442.   Refer to the SnagIt Help file for additional information on setting
  443.   SnagIt's input, output, format and other options.
  444.  
  445.   You can tell which settings SnagIt is using by looking at the bottom
  446.   of the SnagIt window when the program is maximized.
  447.  
  448. 7.2 Invoking SnagIt with <CTRL><SHIFT><P>
  449.  
  450.   Once you have SnagIt's parameters set as you want them, you are
  451.   ready to perform screen captures with SnagIt.
  452.  
  453.   The default hot-key sequence for invoking SnagIt is <Ctrl><Shift><P>.
  454.   When you press these keys, SnagIt will capture an image (determined
  455.   by the input parameter you selected), and send that image to the
  456.   output device you selected. To invoke SnagIt using a different
  457.   hotkey combination, see the Change Hotkeys topic in the SnagIt Help
  458.   file.
  459.  
  460. 7.3 Using the Mouse to Select Images
  461.  
  462.   You will need a mouse or other pointing device with SnagIt.
  463.   The left and right mouse buttons work as follows:
  464.  
  465.   Left Button     Selects SnagIt menu options, and selects screen
  466.                   regions and windows to capture.
  467.  
  468.   Right Button    Cancels a region or window selection, if you press
  469.                   it before you finish making the selection (that is,
  470.                   before you release the left mouse button).
  471.

  473. 8.  REGISTERING SNAGIT/32
  474. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
  475.   This program and its associated files are part of an evaluation
  476.   package copyrighted by TechSmith Corporation. SnagIt is not in the
  477.   public domain.  This program must be registered if it is used
  478.   beyond the 45 day evaluation period.
  479.  
  480.   Single-User SnagIt
  481.  
  482.   Registration entitles the licensee to install either the 32 bit or
  483.   the 16 bit version of SnagIt and to switch between the two without
  484.   further payment.  The single-user license price is $39.95.
  485.  
  486.   When you register SnagIt, you have the option of requesting a
  487.   registered version of the software on diskette or of requesting a
  488.   software key to register the version you have. The software key
  489.   immediately removes all registration reminder screens and evaluation
  490.   expiration dates.
  491.  
  492.   Multi-User SnagIt
  493.  
  494.   Registration entitles the licensed organization to install 10 copies
  495.   of SnagIt, in any combination of 16 bit and 32 bit. A single diskette
  496.   is shipped along with the multi-user license.  The 10-user license
  497.   price is $200.00.
  498.  
  499.   Please note that this evaluation package contains only the 32-bit
  500.   version of SnagIt for Windows 95 and Windows NT.  You should
  501.   download the SnagIt Twin Pack (SNAGIT31.ZIP) for both 32-bit and
  502.   16-bit versions of SnagIt.

  504.   Registration Instructions
  505.  
  506.   1.  Select the SnagIt program's Help menu.
  507.  
  508.   2.  Select How to Register from the menu.
  509.  
  510.   3.  Click on the Registration Form button.  Enter your registration
  511.       information in the fields provided.
  512.  
  513.       NOTE: You must specify a name or company name when you register.
  514.             Your software key will be personalized for that name
  515.             ONLY.  Your key will NOT not work if you change this name
  516.             after you have sent in your registration.
  517.  
  518.   4.  When you are finished, select OK. This will create a text file
  519.       called REGISTER.TXT in the SnagIt default directory. This is
  520.       your registration and order form.  It includes a price sheet and
  521.       your Product ID number.
  522.  
  523.   5.  Windows Notepad will now open REGISTER.TXT automatically,
  524.       allowing you to edit and or print the registration form.  While
  525.       you are editing, please complete any blank items, including
  526.       quantities, totals, and payment information. DO NOT EDIT THE
  527.       PRODUCT ID NUMBER. Note that shipping charges are only
  528.       applicable to diskette orders.
  529.  
  530.   6.  Return the registration form, with payment, to TechSmith
  531.       Corporation by any of the methods described on the form.  Upon
  532.       receipt of your order, TechSmith will generate your diskette or
  533.       software key. It will then be sent to you by the method of
  534.       your choice, either e-mail, fax, postal delivery or other.
  535.  
  536.   If you have elected to receive a software key, use the following
  537.   steps to complete the registration process.
  538.  
  539.   7.  Select the Help menu.
  540.  
  541.   8.  Select Enter Software Key from the menu.
  542.  
  543.   9.  Enter your registration key, exactly as it is shown, in the
  544.       field provided.
  545.  
  546.   10. Press OK.
  547.  
  548.   Your software is now registered!  All the registration reminder
  549.   screens and software expiration dates will be removed.  If you have

  672. The SnagIt/32 installation program SETUP.EXE is a Microsoft Windows
  673. application.  You must have Windows NT or Windows 95 installed prior
  674. to installing SnagIt/32.  To install SnagIt/32, perform the following
  675.  steps:

  677. 1. Start Windows, if you haven't already done so.

  679. 2. Insert the SnagIt/32 diskette into a floppy drive.

  723. public domain.  If this program is used longer than a 45-day evaluation
  724. period, it must be registered.  The files that comprise the SnagIt
  725. evaluation package, or the SnagIt archived file (SNAG3231.ZIP), may be
  726. freely distributed or listed by software vendors as long as files in the
  727. package are kept together and are not modified.

  729. Disk Vendors, Shareware Distributors and BBSs may charge a nominal fee
