  34. 1.  WHAT IS SNAGIT/32?
  35. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
  36.   SnagIt/32 is the Windows NT and Windows 95 version of the popular
  37.   screen capture utility, SnagIt.  SnagIt has been providing Microsoft
  38.   Windows users with an easy way to capture and print Windows screens
  39.   since it was first released in 1991. In "Windows 3.1 Secrets,"
  40.   author Brian Livingston calls SnagIt "the print utility Microsoft
  41.   Windows forgot."
  42.  
  43.   SnagIt/32 allows Windows users to capture an entire screen, a
  44.   portion of the screen, or a single window or icon.  SnagIt/32 also
  45.   accepts input from the Windows clipboard, or a Windows bitmap (BMP)
  46.   file.
  47.  
  48.   Once captured, SnagIt/32 sends the image to the printer, the
  49.   clipboard, or a file, depending on the output option specified.
  50.  
  51.   Captured images can be pasted into other Windows applications such
  52.   as word processors and desktop publishing programs via the Windows
  53.   clipboard, or by saving the image to a graphic file and later
  54.   importing the file into the desired application.
  55.  
  56.   SnagIt/32 functionality can easily be added to other Windows
  57.   applications since SnagIt/32 provides full DDE support.
  58.  
  59.   SnagIt/32 also provides MAPI support which allows captured images
  60.   to be sent easily in an e-mail message.

  63. 2.  SNAGIT/32 SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
  64. ---------------------------------------------------------------------
  65.   In order to run SnagIt/32, your system must meet these
  66.   specifications:
  67.  
  68.   o  An IBM PC or compatible that meets the minimum hardware
  69.      requirements of Microsoft Windows NT or Windows 95;
  70.  
  71.   o  Microsoft Windows NT 3.5x or Windows 95;
  72.  
  73.   o  A mouse or other pointing device;
  74.  
  75.   o  For printed output, a Windows-supported printer that can print
  76.      bitmaps. (This includes most of the laser, dot matrix and ink
  77.      jet printers that Windows supports.  Plotters cannot print
  78.      bitmaps, and so cannot print images captured with SnagIt/32.)

  97. 3.  GETTING HELP
  98. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
  99. 3.1 Using SnagIt's On-line Help
  100.  
  101.   SnagIt's on-line Help system is compatible with the Windows Help
  102.   subsystems.  The SnagIt Help file contains all of the information
  103.   you'll need to use SnagIt, except for the SnagIt installation
  104.   procedure. This (README.TXT) file describes how to install SnagIt.
  105.  
  106.   To access SnagIt Help, select Help from the SnagIt menu bar, then
  107.   Help Index from the drop-down menu.
  108.  
  109.   To get a quick overview of SnagIt essentials, select Quick Help from
  110.   the Help menu.
  111.  
  112.   To acquire information about your screen mode and printer type,
  113.   select System Info from the Help menu.
  114.  
  115.   When you register SnagIt, you will receive a software key that will
  116.   disable the evaluation time-limit and remove all registration
  117.   reminder screens.
  118.

  214. 5.  KNOWN PROBLEMS OR LIMITATIONS
  215. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
  216.     o  SnagIt/32 hangs on e-mail output on Windows 95 if only 16-bit
  217.        MS Mail has been configured (i.e. MAPI is in use, but neither
  218.        MS Exchange or any other 32-bit MAPI mail client has been
  219.        configured).

  222. 6.  SETUP AND CONFIGURATION
  223. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
  224. 6.1 Installation Instructions
  225.  
  226.   The SnagIt/32 installation program SETUP.EXE is a Microsoft Windows
  227.   application.  You must have Windows NT or Windows 95 installed
  228.   prior to installing SnagIt/32.  To install SnagIt/32, perform the
  229.   following steps:
  230.  
  231.   1. Start Windows, if you haven't already done so.
  232.  
  233.   2. Insert the SnagIt/32 diskette into a floppy drive.
  234.  
  235.   For Windows 95 users:
  236.  
  237.   3. From the Start menu, select Run
  238.  
  239.   For Windows NT users:
  240.  
  241.   3. From the Program Manager menu bar, choose File, and select Run
  242.      from the drop down menu.
  243.  
  244.   For all users:
  245.  
  246.   4. In the dialog box, enter:
  247.           a:\setup
  248.      (If you are installing SnagIt/32 from a diskette drive other than
  249.       the A drive, you will need to change the drive letter in the
  250.       command line above.)
  251.  
  252.   5. Click on the OK button.
  253.  
  254.   6. When you have finished entering the setup information, click on
  255.      the Install button to install SnagIt/32.
  256.  
  257. 6.2  Uninstall Instructions
  258.  
  259.   If after installing SnagIt Pack, you find it necessary to
  260.   remove the software from your computer, perform the following steps:
  261.  
  262.   Uninstall instructions for Windows 95
  263.  
  264.   1. Run the Windows 95 Control Panel
  265.  
  266.   2. Open the Add/Remove Programs applet from Control Panel.
  267.  
  268.   3. Select SnagIt from the list of applications that can uninstalled
  269.      by Windows.
  270.  
  271.   4. Click on the Add/Remove button to uninstall SnagIt.
  272.  
  273.   Uninstall instructions for Windows NT
  274.  
  275.   1. Select the FILE RUN menu option in Program Manager.
  276.  
  277.   2. Type in the command line the following:
  278.  
  279.      TSCUNST /UN
  280.  
  281.   3. Press OK to uninstall SnagIt.
  282.  
  283.   If the uninstall program encounters errors, see the following
  284.   section for uninstall instructions.
  285.  
  286. 6.3  Manual Uninstall Instructions
  287.  
  288.   Here are the steps you can take to manually uninstall SnagIt from
  289.   your computer.
  290.  
  291.   1. Start Windows, if you haven't already done so.
  292.  
  293.   For Windows 95 users:
  294.  
  295.   2. From the Start Menu, select Settings and then Taskbar. Now
  296.      configure your Start Menu Programs by clicking on the Advanced
  297.      button.
  298.  
  299.   3. Find the program group that SnagIt/32 was installed in. Click
  300.      once on the SnagIt/32 filename to highlight it. Press the delete
  301.      key. Confirm that you wish to delete the program item.
  302.  
  303.   4. If you selected "Start SnagIt/32 when Windows Starts" when
  304.      installing SnagIt/32, delete SnagIt/32 from the Startup group.
  305.  
  306.      Follow step #2 and then find the Startup group. Click once on
  307.      the SnagIt/32 icon to highlight it. Press the delete key. Confirm
  308.      that you wish to delete the program item.
  309.  
  310.   5. Run Windows Explorer and change to the directory that you
  311.      installed SnagIt/32 in. Delete the files SnagIt32.EXE and
  312.      SnagIt32.HLP.
  313.  
  314.   For Windows NT users:
  315.  
  316.   2. In Program Manager, find the program group that SnagIt/32 was
  317.      installed in. Click once on the SnagIt/32 icon to highlight it.
  318.      Press the delete key. Confirm that you wish to delete the program
  319.      item.
  320.  
  321.   3. If you selected "Start SnagIt/32 when Windows Starts" when
  322.      installing SnagIt/32, delete SnagIt/32 from the Startup group.
  323.  
  324.      In Program Manager, find the Startup group. Click once on the
  325.      SnagIt/32 icon to highlight it. Press the delete key. Confirm
  326.      that you wish to delete the program item.
  327.  
  328.   4. Run File Manager and change to the directory that you installed
  329.      SnagIt/32 in. Delete the files SnagIt32.EXE and SnagIt32.HLP.
  330.

  332. 7.  STARTING AND USING SNAGIT
  333. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
  334.   To start SnagIt, double-click on the SnagIt icon in the Accessories
  335.   group.  (If you specified a group other than Accessories during
  336.   SnagIt installation, look in that group for the SnagIt icon.)
  337.  
  338.   Double-clicking on the SnagIt icon will execute SnagIt and bring
  339.   it to the foreground in its maximized form.  When SnagIt is
  340.   maximized, you may change any of the setup options (input, output,
  341.   format, etc.) from the SnagIt menus.
  342.  
  343.   You can also invoke SnagIt (that is, instruct SnagIt to capture an
  344.   image) while it is maximized, though it will usually be more
  345.   convenient to minimize SnagIt before doing your screen captures.
  346.  
  347.   If you selected the "Load when Windows starts" checkbox during
  348.   installation, SnagIt will start automatically the next time you
  349.   start Windows.
  350.  
  351. 7.1 SnagIt Default Settings
  352.  
  353.   When you install SnagIt, it uses the following default options:
  354.  
  355.   o  Input is set to Screen.  This means that when SnagIt is invoked,
  356.      it will capture the entire Windows desktop.
  357.  
  358.   o  Output is set to Printer.  This means that when SnagIt is
  359.      invoked, it will send the captured image to the Windows default
  360.      printer for printing.
  361.  
  362.   o  Format is set to Color.  This means that SnagIt will capture the
  363.      image with the screen colors intact.  (In most cases you can
  364.      print images using this format setting, even if your printer is
  365.      not a color printer. For additional information about SnagIt
  366.      format options, see the Format options topic in the SnagIt Help
  367.      file.)
  368.  
  369.   o  Printer Scale is set to Fit on Page. This means that SnagIt will
  370.      output the captured image (on paper) at a size similar as the
  371.      image appears on the Windows screen but will reduce the image if
  372.      it is longer than one page.
  373.  
  374.   Refer to the SnagIt Help file for additional information on setting
  375.   SnagIt's input, output, format and other options.
  376.  
  377.   You can tell which settings SnagIt is using by looking at the bottom
  378.   of the SnagIt window when the program is maximized.
  379.  
  380. 7.2 Invoking SnagIt with <CTRL><SHIFT><P>
  381.  
  382.   Once you have SnagIt's parameters set as you want them, you are
  383.   ready to perform screen captures with SnagIt.
  384.  
  385.   The default hot-key sequence for invoking SnagIt is <Ctrl><Shift><P>.
  386.   When you press these keys, SnagIt will capture an image (determined
  387.   by the input parameter you selected), and send that image to the
  388.   output device you selected. To invoke SnagIt using a different
  389.   hotkey combination, see the Change Hotkeys topic in the SnagIt Help
  390.   file.
  391.  
  392. 7.3 Using the Mouse to Select Images
  393.  
  394.   You will need a mouse or other pointing device with SnagIt.
  395.   The left and right mouse buttons work as follows:
  396.  
  397.   Left Button     Selects SnagIt menu options, and selects screen
  398.                   regions and windows to capture.
  399.  
  400.   Right Button    Cancels a region or window selection, if you press
  401.                   it before you finish making the selection (that is,
  402.                   before you release the left mouse button).
  403.

  405. 8.  REGISTERING SNAGIT/32
  406. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
  407.   This program and its associated files are part of an evaluation
  408.   package copyrighted by TechSmith Corporation. SnagIt is not in the
  409.   public domain.  This program must be registered if it is used
  410.   beyond the 45 day evaluation period.
  411.  
  412.   Single-User SnagIt
  413.  
  414.   Registration entitles the licensee to install either the 32 bit or
  415.   the 16 bit version of SnagIt and to switch between the two without
  416.   further payment.  The single-user license price is $39.95.
  417.  
  418.   When you register SnagIt, you have the option of requesting a
  419.   registered version of the software on diskette or of requesting a
  420.   software key to register the version you have. The software key
  421.   immediately removes all registration reminder screens and evaluation
  422.   expiration dates.
  423.  
  424.   Multi-User SnagIt
  425.  
  426.   Registration entitles the licensed organization to install 10 copies
  427.   of SnagIt, in any combination of 16 bit and 32 bit. A single diskette
  428.   is shipped along with the multi-user license.  The 10-user license
  429.   price is $200.00.
  430.  
  431.   Please note that this evaluation package contains only the 32-bit
  432.   version of SnagIt for Windows 95 and Windows NT.  You should
  433.   download the SnagIt Twin Pack (SNAGIT31.ZIP) for both 32-bit and
  434.   16-bit versions of SnagIt.
  435.  
  436.   Registration Instructions
  437.  
  438.   1.  Select the SnagIt program's Help menu.
  439.  
  440.   2.  Select How to Register from the menu.
  441.  
  442.   3.  Click on the Registration Form button.  Enter your registration
  443.       information in the fields provided.
  444.  
  445.       NOTE: You must specify a name or company name when you register.
  446.             Your software key will be personalized for that name
  447.             ONLY.  Your key will NOT not work if you change this name
  448.             after you have sent in your registration.
  449.  
  450.   4.  When you are finished, select OK. This will create a text file
  451.       called REGISTER.TXT in the SnagIt default directory. This is
  452.       your registration and order form.  It includes a price sheet and
  453.       your Product ID number.
  454.  
  455.   5.  Windows Notepad will now open REGISTER.TXT automatically,
  456.       allowing you to edit and or print the registration form.  While
  457.       you are editing, please complete any blank items, including
  458.       quantities, totals, and payment information. DO NOT EDIT THE
  459.       PRODUCT ID NUMBER. Note that shipping charges are only
  460.       applicable to diskette orders.
  461.  
  462.   6.  Return the registration form, with payment, to TechSmith
  463.       Corporation by any of the methods described on the form.  Upon
  464.       receipt of your order, TechSmith will generate your diskette or
  465.       software key. It will then be sent to you by the method of
  466.       your choice, either e-mail, fax, postal delivery or other.
  467.  
  468.   If you have elected to receive a software key, use the following
  469.   steps to complete the registration process.
  470.  
  471.   7.  Select the Help menu.
  472.  
  473.   8.  Select Enter Software Key from the menu.
  474.  
  475.   9.  Enter your registration key, exactly as it is shown, in the
  476.       field provided.
  477.  
  478.   10. Press OK.
  479.  
  480.   Your software is now registered!  All the registration reminder
  481.   screens and software expiration dates will be removed.  If you have
  482.   any additional questions or comments, contact TechSmith by e-mail at
