  2. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
  3.  
  4.      Family Runner NT is among the finest personal/family schedulers available.  
  5. It will prepare calendars and other reports that display one person's upcoming
  6. events or those for several people simultaneously.  Data can be filtered when
  7. a report is generated, so that only events for a particular project, or only
  8. those events containing a particular word, will be displayed.
  9.  
  10.      Considering all it can do, the program is surprisingly easy to use.
  11. Its reports, while not as infinitely customizable as those provided by those
  12. output-oriented calendar producers with limited scheduling capability, are
  13. attractive, functional, and simple to set up.
  14.  
  15.      This program will optionally drag events forward from day to day until
  16. you tell the program to tag them for deletion.  Finding free time, establish-
  17. ing recurring events, and viewing religious dates (Christian, Jewish, and
  18. Muslim) are a snap for this program.  And, as a bonus, the program includes a 
  19. Log module that tracks money spent and received.  It will even produce an 
  20. Income-Expense report for any period of time desired.

  33.      This program will operate only with Windows 95.  A version is also 
  34. available for Windows 3.x.
  35.  
  36.      If you went through the automated INSTALL.BAT routine, the program files
  37. have already been placed into an INTEGRA directory on your hard disk.  If, on 
  38. the other hand, you did not go through the INSTALL.BAT routine, you should run 
  39. the SETUP.BAT routine.  Assuming your printer is attached to the LPT1 port
  40. on your computer, the command to run is 
  41.  
  42.                                 SETUP LPT1

  44. That command will cause the files to be copied to an INTEGRA directory on your
  45. hard disk.

  48. - RUNNING THE PROGRAM -
  49.  
  50.     If you're in a hurry to see what the program is like before completing the
  51. basic setup for Windows, you may do so by using  File | Run  in the Program 
  52. Manager or by double-clicking on it in the File Manager.  The name of the file
  53. to execute is ULTIMATE.EXE.

  58. - COMPLETING THE BASIC SETUP FOR WINDOWS 95 -
  59.  
  60.     If you'd like to access the program through its icon, complete the basic 
  61. setup for Windows 95:
  62.  
  63.        1) Point to the Start button on the Task Bar.  When you  RIGHT-click
  64.           the mouse, a menu will appear.  Select "Open" on the menu.
  65.  
  66.        2) A "Start Menu" box will appear.  Double-click on the "Programs" 
  67.           folder.
  68.  
  69.        3) A "Programs" box will appear, showing the sub-folders currently 
  70.           included within Programs folder.  Double-click on the folder in
  71.           which you wish to include this program.

  73.        4) A box showing the programs contained within the folder will appear.
  74.           Select   File | New   at the box's pull-down menu.  Then, select
  75.           "Shortcut" at the sub-menu that appears.

  77.        5) A "Create Shortcut" box will appear.  Into the "Command Line" item,
  78.           type
  79.  
  80.                           C:\INTEGRA\ULTIMATE.EXE

  82.        6) Then, you'll be asked to select a name or title for this program or
  83.           shortcut.  Type in anything that is meaningful to you.  The new 
  84.           program will then be added to the folder.

  87.           the program's on-line help.

  91. - PRINTING THE MANUAL
  92.  
  93.     The manual consists entirely of on-line help that is organized into
  94. several "chapters" referenced in its table of contents.  Selecting "Help"  at
  95. the pull-down menu will take you into the help system, where you may search
  96. for information by keyword.  Pressing the F1 key almost anywhere within the 
  97. program will take you directly to a section of the manual that discusses that
  98. section of the program.

  100.     Printing the manual involves several steps.  First, get into the help 
  101. system ("Help" or F1).  When there, select the "Contents" button.  At the
  102. Contents page, select  File | Print.  After the Contents page has printed, 
  103. select the first topic in the Contents listing.  When that topic appears, 
  104. select  File | Print.  After that topic prints, return to the Contents page
  105. and select the next topic and print it.  Repeat this process until the entire
  106. manual has been printed.

  111. - PROBLEMS -
  112.  
  113.   VIDEO:
  114.  
  115.      -> If vertical and horizontal scroll bars appear when the program loads,
  116. your window borders may be too wide to allow enough space for this program's 
  117. screens to display in full.  Reduce the size of your window borders to 1 by 
  118. running the "Desktop" program (usually found in "Control Panel" group in 
  119. Windows' Program Manager).  Or, simply "maximize" the program on the screen.

  121.      -> If gibberish appears anywhere in the program, the problem is that the
  122. video driver you are using cannot produce all the fonts used by the program.
  123. Try another driver.  Video drivers are selected in the Windows "Setup" program
  124. (usually found in the "Main" group in the Program Manager).
  125.  
  126.      -> If text on the screen or printer seems improperly sized or does not 
  127. seem to fit neatly into the areas where it should, there are two possible 
  128. reasons:  
  129.     One possibilty is that the video driver you're using may not be 
  130. optimal.  Some drivers seem to be incapable of producing text of a selected 
  131. font at the correct size, especially at the higher resolutions.  If you have 
  132. a choice between a driver that uses "large fonts" and one that uses "small 
  133. fonts", choose the latter.  Video drivers are selected in the Windows "Setup" 
  134. program (usually found in the "Main" group in the Program Manager).
  135.     Another possible cause of poorly fitting text is that you may be 
  136. either missing some font files, or using font files that have been altered
  137. by other software.  This program relies upon the following ORIGINAL fonts
  138. supplied by Microsoft Windows:  Arial, Courier New, Terminal, and System.  
  139. If they seem to be unavailable, they may be somewhere on your hard disk, but 
  140. not installed.  Try using the Windows "Fonts" routine (found in the "Control 
  141. Panel") to find and install (or add) them.  Also useful may be the /NT option
  142. discussed near the end of the on-line help's "Configuration" section.

  144.   PRINTER:
  145.  
  146.      -> If fonts appear to be improperly sized, or if gibberish appears on the
  147. printout, make sure that the printer driver that you have installed into 
  148. Windows is specifically matched to your EXACT printer model.  A "close" match
  149. or "emulation" may not be good enough.  This program does nothing fancy with
  150. your printer.  It relies ENTIRELY upon Windows to handle the printing.  If it
  151. doesn't appear to be working properly, your printer driver is probably to 
  152. blame.  So why do other programs appear to work with your printer and its 
  153. driver?  Perhaps because those programs don't rely upon the same Arial and
  154. Courier New fonts that this program does.  Or perhaps the other programs are
  155. somehow bypassing Windows to print directly to the printer.  Be assured that
  156. if your Windows printer driver is a good match for your printer, this 
  157. program's output will be fine.

  161. - REGISTERED USERS -
  162.  
  163.      If you have registered as a user, you have a serial number printed on the
  164. distribution disk's label.  You now need to let the program know that you
  165. acknowledge your serial number.  To do so,
  166.  
  167.    1) Go to the program manager and select   File | Run   at the menu bar.
  168.  
  169.    2) At the Run box, enter
  170.   
  171.             C:\INTEGRA\ULTIMATE.EXE /RP
  172.  
  173.       at the Command Line item.  This command assumes that you have loaded the
  174.       program onto drive C.  If not, substitute the appropriate letter.  For 
  175.       instance, if you loaded the program onto drive F, 
  176.  
  177.             F:\INTEGRA\ULTIMATE.EXE /RP
  178.  
  179.       would be entered instead.

  181.    3) When asked for your serial number, enter it.
  182.  
  183. Once you've completed this process, the program will skip the registration
  184. info screen when loading.  But you may confirm your serial number and the
  185. number of network workstations for which you are registered by selecting
  186. Help | About  at the Main Screen's menu bar when running the program.
