  9. 1. Introduction

  12.     Sick of the stupid blue-sky, everything's perfect in Microsoftland
  13.     Windows 95 boot screen yet?  Well, we were, and we decided that
  14.     we weren't going to take it anymore!
  15.  
  16.     This is a collection of replacement logos for the Windows 95 boot
  17.     and shutdown screens.  We've made them all ourselves.

  19. 2. Installation
  20. ---------------

  22.     Ok, first you'll want to know what the logos look like, so I left
  23.     the .BMP extension on them for easier previewing.  Just use MSPAINT,
  24.     QPV or whatever to look at them.  Remember they look stretched to
  25.     twice their normal hight.

  27.     You'll note these instructions are intended for a DOS window.
  28.     Hmm... I wonder why.  :)
  29.  
  30.     For boot logos, just copy the file of your choice to the root
  31.     directory of your boot drive (see below) as LOGO.SYS.  Windows will
  32.     automatically find and use it there.  For example,
  33.  
  34.         (from the directory where you unzipped this stuff)
  35.  
  36.         COPY WARN1.BMP C:\LOGO.SYS
  37.  
  38.         (if it asks you to overwrite, say yes, but don't blame us)
  39.  
  40.     The exit logos are stored in your Windows directory as:
  41.  
  42.         LOGOW.SYS - The cloud one like the standard boot logo.
  43.         LOGOS.SYS - The "You can now safely . . ." message.
  44.  
  45.     Installing these is just as easy:

  47.         (from the directory where you unzipped this)

  49.         COPY HOLLY1.BMP D:\WIN95\LOGOW.SYS
  50.  
  51.     Of course, you have to put your Windows drive and directory where
  52.     the "D:\WIN95\" part is . . .

  54.     That's all.

  56. 3. The exit ones work, but the boot logo doesn't.

  59.     If you run Stacker or some such thing, your real boot drive probably
  60.     isn't C:, so you have to put LOGO.SYS on the real boot drive.

  65.     We're not responsible for anything that happens to your computer as
  66.     a result of doing anything we suggest with these files (or with any
  67.     files or ideas or suggestions), no matter how stupid you are.

  92.     WARNLOGO.ZIP was uploaded to ftp.cica.indiana.edu before we realized
  93.     that we could make a lot more cool logos :)  All it contained were
  94.     the two warning logos.  This is better.
