MUZAK.HST -- History of changes to MUZAK.BAS and MUZAK.EXE
-----------
Version 1.0
Original version. If you still have this one, you're out of date.
-----------
Version 2.0
Adds the ability of subdefinition files to allow more than 40 .MUZ files.
I thought some people might like this. Also adds the usual assortment of
music.
-----------
Version 2.1
Adds subdefinition files XMAS.MUZ, CLASSICS.MUZ, and THEMES.MUZ, the type
of music at the top of the music-playing menu, the box running the entire
way across the screen, a number of new music files, and something else
that I seem to have forgotten the details of. Oh well, believe me, if the
program is a worm, I don't know about it!
------------
Version 2.11
Adds a couple of new music files (mostly by Char Aznabul), and gets rid
of that stupid "Violin Man" thing at the bottom of the box (it was only
supposed to do that on a 1-in-100 chance, but obviously THAT didn't
work).
------------------------------
Version 2.2 29 November 1986
Revamps the .DOC file, adds the MUZFMT.DOC file listing the file formats,
adds color (which by the way I can't see, because I have a monochrome
adapter, so if the colors look absolutely stupid to you PLEASE tell me
and I'll change them), and makes the source code look better with lots of
comments and renumbering and starry REM statements at the beginning
listing my name and junque like that. Also adds about 8 or 9 new songs,
and now uses the environment for storage. See text for details.
----------------------------
Version 2.21 15 April 1986
Doesn't do much of anything, actually. Well, I did finally compile the
program -- someone asked. Also I added a new song or two. Oh, I put my
name in the program -- "MUZAK V2.21 by Aaron Ross Priven" -- and
compressed the environment a little more (PATH, PROMPT, and the * for
COMSPEC) Not a lot else. Oh, I changed the colors since someone didn't
like it. Well, come to think of it nobody liked the green-on-brown. Now
it's black on amber (it was recommended) as well as blue on white and
green on white. Us weirdos with monochrome monitors look completely
different. Oh well. Also I separated the .HST and .DOC files.
--------------------------
Version 2.22 6 June 1986
Didn't do hardly ANYTHING, really. I decided I was sick of accidentally
exiting the program so ESCAPE from a submenu now gets you to the main
menu (as well RETURN). (Yes, that was the "Improved Command Structure"
the .NOT file was talking about. Advertising...) Also added some new
Christmas carols and replaced DECK.MUZ and JINGLE.MUZ because the new
source was better. That's it. Oh, this version added the new 'starry
pattern'. I forgot to mention this in the actual release of Version 2.22
though. Oh well!
-------------------------
Version 2.3 9 July 1986
Adds command line parameters -D[ebug] and -F[ast]. Also got rid of the
stupid environment lookups -- now it does everything in memory, as a
decent program should -- and added T.O.N.S. of new Muzak files, which
meant I had to separate the Miscellaneous category into Miscellaneous,
Popular, Folk, and Political songs. Also added REVIEW.DOC, the message
"ESC to end" at the bottom of the playing screen, and the Do You Really
Want To Exit prompt. It's hard to believe that I once had less than 40
songs, and in fact that MUZAK couldn't handle more than that!
it prompt. It's hard to believe that I
