There is no doubt that the Chiemsee is one of the most beautiful holiday resorts of germany. It is located south-east of Munich in the state of Bavaria, amidst splendid alpine surroundings and also "ornamented" with a castle known as the Schloß Herrenchiemsee.
Because of its sheer size, the Chiemsee is also known as the "Bavarian Sea". It covers an area of 85 square kilometres, is 18 kilometres long, 14 kilometres wide and 73 metres deep.
The road around this gigant lake is 68 kilometres long. It is possible to make the trip by car during an afternoon, passing through delightful scenary and little villages along the lakeside.
