  2.  This is the first release of the Gospels in a Window Book.
  3.  Please call 800-524-0380 with your comments or if you need technical

  6.  Note: This Window Book is designed to work as a DOS application when run 
  7.        under plain DOS and as a true MS-Windows application when run under 
  8.        MS-Windows 2.x or 3.x.
  9.  
  10.  Note: This Window Book has a new Full-text retrieval feature. Please review
  11.        the online help (press F1 inside the Window Book) for full details.

  13.  Here is the one-step installation procedure:
  14.    
  15.          1) Place the disk in drive A:,
  16.             then at the DOS prompt type   A:INSTALL
  17.             C>A:INSTALL
  18.  
  19.  Following installation, to run Gospels, at the DOS Prompt, type  Gospels
  20.             C>GOSPELS
  21.             
  22.  To run Gospels as a background-resident pop-up, with the Alt+Esc "hotkey"
  23.  combination, add the /B parameter:
  24.          C>GOSPELS /B
  25.  
  26.  To run Gospels as a background-resident pop-up, with your own private "hotkey"
  27.  combination, add the /B and the /HK:? parameters:
  28.          C>GOSPELS /B /HK:?
  29.  
  30.  where ? can be a function key F1-F10 (yielding hotkey combinations
  31.  Alt-F1 thru Alt+F10), or a letter A-Z (yielding hotkey combinations
  32.  Ctrl+Shift+A thru Ctrl+Shift+Z), or a number 0-9 (yielding hotkey 
  33.  combinations Ctrl+Shift+0 thru Ctrl+Shift+9)

  35.  To run your Gospels as a true MS-Windows application, Double click on 
  36.  Gospels.exe while running MS-Windows 2.x or 3.x. See 
  37.  below.

  40.  Book (press F1). We suggest you refer to it there.

  42.  Using Your Window Book Under DOS Display

  45.  Options for DOS Display

  47.  Note: these options do not apply when you use your Window Book 
  48.  under MS-Windows.

  50.  If you want to run the Window Book as a background-resident (TSR) 
  51.  popup, you must specify the /B option:       
  52.  
  53.  C>GOSPELS /b        The Window Book goes TSR ("Popup")
  54.  
  55.  The complete activation syntax for running a Window Book is:
  56.  
  57.  [drv:][\path\]bookname [/b] [/hk:X] [/g]
  58.  
  59.  where:
  60.  
  61.  drv:      is a disk drive name (e.g., A:, B:, C:, D: etc.) 
  62.  
  63.  \path\    is a directory name (e.g., \) 
  64.  
  65.  /b        specifies that the Window Book should operate as a background 
  66.            resident popup (TSR).
  67.  
  68.  /hk:X     specifies the user-chosen hotkey combination. X 
  69.            can take the values 0 through 9, A 
  70.            through Z, and F1 through F10. 
  71.  
  72.  /g        Normally, when there's a choice of multiple volumes, 
  73.            the program starts up by offering a volume selection menu. The 
  74.            user then decides which volume to read. The /g (for go!) option 
  75.            bypasses the volume selection menu on startup.

  78.  How-To Guide for DOS Display
  79.  
  80.  Make a hypertext jump: (1) The topic you're reading 
  81.  must have references (hypertext links) built into it. You can tell 
  82.  by the Turn references ON message at the right side of the 
  83.  menu line (at the top of the screen). (2) Press Ins (the keypad 0 
  84.  key). The message flips over to the left side. The references are 
  85.  ON. (3) If the information in the window has references in it, you'll 
  86.  see them highlighted. If there are no references in the window, use 
  87.  PgDn or PgUp to reach the section of information that does have references. 
  88.  (4) If the window shows several references, you can use the left/right 
  89.  arrow keys - - to select the one you want. (5) Press Enter.

  91.  Do keyword lookup: (1) Press ALT and, keeping it pressed, type 
  92.  the first letters of a title or a highlighted reference. (2) Whatever 
  93.  you type, is displayed in the menu line. (3) If such a title or reference 
  94.  exists, Window Book will select it (same as if you pressed the up/down 
  95.  arrows until you located the desired item).Note however that you can 
  96.  only type letters or digits;  If you release the Alt key and then 
  97.  press it again,   you're starting a new keyword.  Keyword lookup works 
  98.  in the ToC, in the INDEX, and when a topic's cross-references are 
  99.  ON.

  101.  Change the form of the Table of Contents: (1) Press F2. (2) 
  102.  Press the keypad right arrow key, or left arrow key, once.(3) Select 
  103.  the view of the Table of Contents that you wish to use.
  104.  
  105.  Print an entire topic: (1) Press F6. (2) Press Enter.
  106.  
  107.  Copy an entire topic to a file: (1) Press F6. (2) Press the 
  108.  keypad down arrow key once. (3) Press Enter.
  109.  
  110.  Mark a text selection: (1) Press F5 for the first time. A line 
  111.  is highlighted. (2) Using the keypad up/down arrow keys position the 
  112.  highlighted line at the beginning of the desired selection. (3) Press 
  113.  F5 for the second time; this starts marking. (4) Using the keypad 
  114.  up/down arrow keys  move the highlighted text to the end of the desired 
  115.  selection. (5) Press F5 a third time; the selection is marked.  If 
  116.  you press F5 a fourth time, marking disappears.

  118.  Print or copy selected information: (1) Using F5, mark the 
  119.  selected text. (2) Press F6 for printing/copying.     
  120.  (3) Follow instructions shown in F6 menu. (4) Press F5 once more, 
  121.  to undo the marking.

  123.  Import information into your word processor: (1) Copy the information 
  124.  into a file. (2) Import/Read the file into your word processor with 
  125.  your word processors import/read feature.

  127.  See the foreground application while reading: When the Window 
  128.  Book is in the background, you can split the screen and see parts 
  129.  of the foreground application screen while reading the Window Book. 
  130.  (1) Press F7. The screen splits. Pressing F7 a second time inverses 
  131.  the split-screen. Pressing it a third time restores the full-screen 
  132.  display.

  134.  One-key sequential reading: When the Toc or INDEX is visible 
  135.  in the background, you can get the next page of the current topic 
  136.  by pressing PgDn. Then, by pressing Shift-PgDn, you automatically 
  137.  read the next topic. This single key lets you read an entire Window 
  138.  Book sequentially, page by page, topic by topic, as if it were a regular 
  139.  paper book! (the keypad + and keypad - keys do the same as Shift-PgDn 
  140.  and Shift-PgUp; use the one you find most convenient).

  142.  Dynamically Redefining Keys in DOS Display
  143.  
  144.  It has been observed that people generally feel more comfortable when 
  145.  able to leave their finger on the key it's on, rather than moving 
  146.  from key to key.
  147.  
  148.  The Window Book user interface has been designed to reduce the number 
  149.  of times your fingers must move from key to key by redefining the 
  150.  function of most keys after they are pressed so that pressing such 
  151.  a key a second time will produce another, normally complementary, 
  152.  action. We encourage you to experiment in pressing a key twice to 
  153.  see how the second time undoes or modifies the effect of the first 
  154.  time.

  156.  Pressing F1 once brings up the HELP Menu. Pressing it again removes 
  157.  the menu.
  158.  
  159.  Pressing F2 or F3 once brings up the Table of Contents, or the INDEX. 
  160.  Pressing it again has the same effect as if Enter was pressed: the 
  161.  currently selected topic is displayed.
  162.  
  163.  Pressing F6 once brings up the Print/Export menu. Pressing it again 
  164.  removes the menu. Pressing Esc also removes the menu, as does selecting 
  165.  NONE of the above... and pressing Enter. Choose the method 
  166.  that you find most comfortable.

  168.  Pressing F10 once brings up the Termination/Book Selection menu, which 
  169.  offers you the choice of selecting another Window Book for reading. 
  170.  Pressing F10 again closes the Window Book and returns you to DOS. 
  171.  Thus, to close the Window Book, just press F10 twice.

  173.  Pressing F5 will activate the Marking Text function pressing F5  again 
  174.  will begin marking . Pressing F5 the third time will turn Marking 
  175.  off. Pressing F5 a fourth time will unmark any marked text.

  177.  Pressing F7 will toggle split screen when you have your Window Book 
  178.  installed in the background.

  180.  Pressing Enter takes you from ToC or INDEX to a selected topic, or 
  181.  from a cross-reference to a target topic. Pressing Enter again normally
