- [- Installing Launch Pad on a Hard Drive -]
-
-
- The FIRST thing that you have to do..is make back-up copies of
- Launch Pad .............Use "DISKCOPY OR XCOPY"...See.....DOS MANUAL
- to achieve this. Then, please put away the original
- (two) Disks and only use the back-up copies.
- This way only the back-ups can be harmed (if at all).
-
- To load the Launch Pad on your hard drive, place DISK (1) in
- A: Drive and type: INSTALL A box will then appear on the
- screen informing you that this "install program" will not
- change your CONFIG.SYS or AUTOEXEC.BAT files.....See...MISC..Page 17
- First, enter the drive that you want to copy from ( A,or B ) drive.
- And then it will ask you which Drive to install Launch Pad onto.
- All you have to do is enter the letter of the drive you
- want Launch Pad copied to. EXAMPLE: C, D, E, or G only.
- You can only copy these files to a hard drive.
-
- The "Install program" will then create one DIRECTORY.
- The <LAUNCH> directory.
- The LAUNCH directory is for the Launch Pad program files.
-
-
-
-
- The "Install program" will then copy all the files
- on DISK (1) to your hard drive, and then stop when completed
- and ask you to place DISK (2) into A: Drive.
- Place DISK (2) in A: Drive, close the drive door, and press ENTER.
-
- Once all the files are copied to your hard drive, you
- have the option of either running Launch Pad or returning
- to DOS. Put your back-up copies away, and only use the
- original 2 copies for making back-up copies.
-
- *--- SET-UP (Automatic Install)
-
- The Launch Pad is set-up to work only in the "LAUNCH" directory
- (only), and will not work if placed in a different named
- directory. And the directory must be off the root
- directory of whichever drive you choose.
-
- Also, you cannot change any of the file names that operate
- the Launch Pad, to do so, would crash the program.
-
-
- You MUST have COMMAND.COM in ROOT DIR and DOS in your path.
- Example: In your AUTOEXEC.BAT file the PATH might look like this..
- PATH=C:\;C:\DOS;C:\LAUNCH
-
-
- In other words, the Launch Pad must be able to find
- DOS. Most hard drives are already set up this way
- so you probably won't have to change anything.
-

- [- Quick Help -]
-
- Using this option gives you a quick reminder of
- what keys to use to get around the Launch Pad.
- Just press <H> any time you're looking at the Launch Pad
- and a pop-up help window appears on the screen.
-
- *-Backup
- This will backup all the files on your hard drive or...
- just the files that have not been backed up..you choose.
- All backups are directed to A: drive.
-
- *-To activate the COMPLETE SYSTEM PASSWORD, enter the password
- twice, the first time..after that you always have the option.
-
- [- The Satellite .. Utilities -]
-
- Utilities...Inside this option holds the most utilities & power.
- Options are listed on the top of the screen & in option boxes.
-
- You can COPY or block COPY files (tagged).
- You can DELETE (erase) or block DELETE files (tagged).
- You can make or delete directories.
- Rename files, disks, drives.
- View files & a lot more, so.. here is where the power comes in.
-
- To Start...
- Press <F2> on the Launch Pad and then press <ENTER>.
- Then you will be asked which drive to view. Enter A, B,
- C, D, E, F, G, or H only. Enter the drive letter (only).
- *-If you select A: or B: drive, place the disk in the drive first.
- Next, the screen will change and start to list all the
- directories on the drive you just selected.
- If you do not have any directories, the Satellite will start
- to list all the files on the root directory of the drive you
- selected. If you do not have any files, then the Satellite
- will return to the last directory or drive you came from.
- *-If you started from the Launch Pad, you will be asked another drive.
- After all the directories are listed, you select the directory
- you want to work with by hiliting the directory with the
- Pg Dn key and then press <ENTER>.
- Then, all the files inside that directory will be displayed
- for your inspection.
- To return back to where you came from, press the <-> (minus) key.
- To change drives or return to the Launch Pad press <ESC>.
- Also, while looking at your directories you can press <F10>
- to view your directory utilities. The utilities work by
- pressing the function keys or single letters.
-
- To use the directory utilities, you must hilite a directory,
- then press the function key or letter you need. When you're
- finished with the utility, you will be returned to where you
- left off.
- *-BE CAREFUL of pressing the letter <D> WHILE hiliting
- a directory, this option DELETES (erase) the WHOLE directory.
- But, not if it has a sub directory. But it will still erase all the
- files in the main-sub directory.
-
- -Directories
- From the directory display, you can use the DOS line,
- jump to DOS, make or delete a directory, tag - untag
- a directory, check drive for fragmented files, see
- only certain files, & available memory.
-
- Page 4
- DOS line....By using this option, you can perform a DOS task
- --------- and then return to the Satellite.
- You can change drives first by entering the drive
- letter you want to work with first. EXAMPLE: <D:>
- So, enter <Letter & Colon then ENTER>, then DOS command.
- *-To change directories, just issue the change
- directory command first. EXAMPLE: CD\GAME then ENTER,
- then the prompt will reappear to enter the DOS
- command for the chosen directory.
-
- Jump to DOS..When you JUMP to DOS, unlike the DOS line which only
- ----------- works on two DOS command at a time. With this
- option, you stay in DOS until you type <EXIT> from
- the command line, which will bring you back to the
- Satellite. Here you can perform all the DOS
- commands you need, one after the other.
-
- REMEMBER, type <EXIT> to return from this option.
-
- Make a <DIR..To MAKE a directory, all you have to do is press
- ----------- <F3> and you will be asked to enter the new
- directory name. You can use any name, but make
- sure you do not already have a directory with the
- same name.
- After you have named the directory, you will be
- returned and a new listing will show with the new
- directory name (you're allowed up to eight characters).
-
- Delete <DIR..To DELETE (erase) a DIRECTORY, hilite the directory
- ----------- and press ENTER. This will delete all the files in
- the directory as well. But, not if you have another
- directory inside the one you want to delete. Then, go
- into that sub-directory and delete it first.
-
- Tag <DIR.....To TAG a DIRECTORY, just hilite the directory
- -------- and press <T> for TAG. Use this option if you're
- not very good with paths, or to just speed up
- your file management.
- *-Using this option you can go and TAG a directory
- and then every time you need to copy a file or
- move a file the PATH will be written out for
- you. For really long paths, you will only see
- the first 50 characters, but the complete path
- is still working for you.
- Untag <DIR...To UNTAG a DIRECTORY, just hilite the tagged
- ---------- directory and press <U> for Untag.
- *-Or, if the tagged directory is many sub directories
- deep, you can always just press <DEL> for the
- auto-Untag option. Great for switching tagged
- directories fast.
- -Files
- Copy.........To COPY a file, just hilite the file and press
- ---- <C> for copy, then enter your path. If you do not
- know how to enter a path, then just go and tag the
- directory you want to copy the file into. Or enter
- A: or B: to copy to the floppy Diskettes.
- or [ A or B ] with no colon.
- Delete.......To DELETE (erase) a file, just hilite the file
- ------ and press <D> for Delete. No path required.
- You will be asked again if this is what you want
- to do. Answer <Y>es or <N>o.
-
- Edit.........To Edit a file, you must have DOS 5.0 to use this
- ---- function.
-
-
- Page 5
- View........To view a file, just hilite the file and press
- ---- <V> for View. You can only view certain files, like
- Alt-V = files with EXTentions of DOC, or txt or READ.ME
- ARC Viewer files. If you select a file with an EXTention of
- LZH EXE or COM you will probably get nothing but
- ARJ gibberish. Just press <ESC> to return.
- ZIP Press <V> again to change format.
-
- See only...To see only certain files, like just the files with
- -------- the EXTention of EXE only. Press <F6> and enter
- the EXTention you are interested in. The next time
- you select a directory to view, only the .EXE files
- in that directory will be shown.
- You can use the <?> for any EXTention..EXAMPLE:
- >Find.. <T?T> = all files that start and end
- >with <T> will be shown, and any letter in between
- >the two T's will be shown.
-
- *-Do not add the <.> period for EXTentions,
- this is automatic.
-
- Find File..To find a certain file, or duplicate files, use
- --------- this option, <F7>. The Satellite will find the file
- and display the directory the file(s) is in.
- If you leave off the EXTention, then all files
- that start with the name you're looking for will
- be displayed.
- You can print this list to the printer two ways.
- 1. Press <P> or 2. Use print screen.
-
- Fragment...To check and see if your files are fragmented,
- -------- press <F5>. Every time you delete a file and
- then copy a new file to a new directory, or
- if you make a lot of deletions or copies you
- take the chance of fragmenting your files.
- Do not worry, this is how DOS works.
- DOS will fill in all empty spaces on your hard
- drive before it starts to fill-in at the end
- of your drive. So, If you delete a file with
- only 700 bytes and then copy a new file to your
- hard drive with say 900 bytes...DOS will split
- the file up...the first 700 bytes go to the place
- you deleted and the other 200 bytes go someplace else.
- So, you have a fragmented file.
- If you have a lot| This only slows your hard drive down and will not

- ------------------
- Rename.....To rename a file (give it a different name), just
- ------ hilite the file and then Press <R> for Rename.
- You can rename any file you wish. But, be careful
- not to rename a file that one of your programs may
- need. Example: on the Launch Pad you CANNOT REname
- any of the program files or the program will crash.
-
-
-
- Page 6
- *-This option is for text files or files you create.
- But can be used on all files.
- *-Also DO NOT rename a file to one that is already in
- your directory. You can have two files with the same
- name, but not in the same directory.
-
- Tag File..This option is for a group of files to be copied or

-
- Untag File.To UNtag a file just hilite that file and press

- *-Or, you can use the up-arrow key for auto-untag if
- you have a lot of tagged files or change your mind.

- Copy all..To copy all the files in a certain directory, go
- -------- into that directory (remember hilite and press ENTER) Or TAG a
- directory then enter your path. All the files in that directory
- will be copied to your path, be it a drive or directory.
- If by chance you do not have room on the target drive
- or directory for a large file, then the Satellite will
- still copy the files you have room for and not copy
- just the larger files. So, check your target to see
- if all the files you needed were copied. If not, then
- you have to erase some or put them on a different drive
- or in a different directory that has the room.
- *-Or on a new diskette.
-
- Misc DO NOT remove the diskette from A: or B: drive until you
- Satellite return back to your hard drive.
- --------- Example:
- Say you're copying from A: drive to your hard drive. Now,
- you're finished and you want to return to C: drive.
- Press <ESC>, enter <Y>, enter <C>...now remove the
- diskette from A: or B: drive.
-
- *-Or, if you're viewing A: or B: drive, leave the diskette
- in the drive until you return back to your hard drive.
-
- With option <F4> on directories, [ view tree ] if you

- *- CONFIG.SYS ..file Mesa, Az 85201 V3.3
- ----------
- This is one of the first files that your computer looks at
- when you first BOOT (start) your computer.
- Inside this file should be things like:
- FILES=15
- BUFFERS=15
- The Launch Pad does not change this file.
- To find out more about this file check your DOS manual.
-
- *- AUTOEXEC.BAT ..file
- ------------
-
-
- Page 15
- This file is also one of the first files your computer
- looks at when you first BOOT (start) your computer.
- Inside this file are the programs your computer
- looks for to start first. Plus it has the PATH to
- the DOS directory (most of the time), and the PROMPT.
- Some get very complicated, but most are very simple.
- To let the Launch Pad start-up when you turn on your
- computer, add this to your AUTOEXEC.BAT batch file...
- Enter: CD\LAUNCH on the first free line....after PATH & PROMPT
- Enter: L.BAT on the second free line
- Then reBOOT your computer...or wait until the next time
- you start your computer and the Launch Pad will be
- loaded automatically.
- You must add this in yourself, Launch Pad will not
- do this for you.
- See DOS manual for editing the AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
-
- ******-- To use the <L.BAT> batch file, type "L" in the LAUNCH
- ' ' directory, this will start the Launch Pad.
- ' B ' This is the batch file that controls all the programs
- ' A ' on your menu.
- ' T ' If you "launch" a batch file and it crashes on return
- ' C ' to the Launch Pad, then just place this command on the
- ' H ' last line of that batch file "CD\LAUNCH".
- ' ' Some batch files return you to the root directory, you
- ' F ' DO NOT want this, you want to return to the LAUNCH
- ' I ' directory.
- ' L ' Use Edlin or a text editor to edit the other batch file,
- ' E ' see DOS manual. Change <command /c> to <call> for DOS 3.3 & up.
- ' ' This batch file can be automatically started by putting it
- ******-- in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
