  3.                     **** README FILE FOR TRUEMENU ****

  8.            TRUEMENU is a Hard Disk menu system for running .EXE, .COM
  9.            and .BAT program files. It is very easy to use, and has full
  10.            mouse control. When running menu items, the memory overhead
  11.            is only 6.5k. This is achieved by swapping to Extended Memory
  12.            or Expanded Memory or Disk, in that order of preference.
  13.  
  14.            TRUEMENU also features a FILE LINK routine, whereby data files
  15.            are linked to the program that created them. Selecting such
  16.            linked files automatically loads the program that created them.
  17.  
  18.            TRUEMENU requires a minimum of 384k installed conventional memory
  19.            and will work on all types of display. It is supplied with a
  20.            FILE MANAGER. This is for basic file operations, such as copy,
  21.            delete, rename, etc. It also features a Text Editor and offers
  22.            some directory services as well. To use the File Manager, at
  23.            least 512k memory is required. Your DOS version must be 3.0 or
  24.            higher.

  26.            **** INSTALLATION ****
  27.            TRUEMENU is supplied with an automatic installation routine
  28.            (TRUEINST.EXE). You need to run this program before TRUEMENU
  29.            can be used. The program files are in a compressed format and
  30.            cannot be accessed without running the installation.

  32.            To install the program, just type "TRUEINST" at the DOS
  33.            prompt. You are then asked to confirm the directory/drive
  34.            from which you are installing and that to which you want the
  35.            program to be installed.

  37.            The installation routine installs TRUEMENU the specified
  38.            target directory, and then SCANS the DOS Path and all the
  39.            hard disk drives for about 100 well known DOS and WINDOWS
  40.            applications. If any of them is found, a Menu Item is
  41.            created for it. NOTE that this process may take up to about
  42.            5 minutes or more if you have a big and/or slow hard disk.

  44.            The installation program only scans the first sub-directory
  45.            levels after searching the DOS path. So if any of the
  46.            programs is contained in a directory that is not in the DOS
  47.            path, and is not a first level directory of the root
  48.            directory (e.g C:\MYDIR\MYAPPDIR) the user will have to
  49.            create a menu item for it.

  51.            The installation routine also gives the option of updating
  52.            the AUTOEXEC.BAT file to add the TRUEMENU directory to the
  53.            PATH statement while saving the old autoexec.bat in
  54.            AUTOEXEC.OLD. You are prompted before this is done and can
  55.            decline the offer.

  57.             *** KWIKMENU USERS ****
  58.                 For current users of KWIKMENU we have prodcued a conversion
  59.                 utility (CONVKWIK.EXE) to convert KWIKMENU menu items to
  60.                 TRUEMENU format.

  62.                 If you are already a KWIKMENU user, after running the
  63.                 TRUEMENU installation routine, you can then run
  64.                 the conversion program afterwards. In this case, the
  65.                 converted KWIKMENU menu items will be added to the ones
  66.                 created by the installation routine. This may result in the
  67.                 DUPLICATION of some menu items (those created by the
  68.                 installation routine, but for which KWIKMENU items already
  69.                 existed). All you need do is to DELETE the duplicated menu
  70.                 items using the DELETE MENU ITEM option on the Main Menu.

  72.            The user can study the menu items created by the installation
  73.            routine via the "EDIT" option in the Main Menu for examples of
  74.            how to set up menu items. Documentation for TRUEMENU is supplied
  75.            in the form of a self-displaying document file (TRUEDOC.COM). To
  76.            read the documentation, just type "TRUEDOC"

  78.            ** NOTE for REGISTERED USERS **
  79.            -------------------------------
  80.            Because REGISTERED users will most likely have been using
  81.            TRUEMENU on a trial basis and would have created their own
  82.            menu files, there may not be a need to go through all the
  83.            processes of the installation routine. When the installation
  84.            routine is about to install a file it first searches to see
  85.            whether there is already another file with the same name. If
  86.            so, you are prompted to confirm that you wish for the file to
  87.            be overwritten with the new one.

  89.            **** HELP ****
  90.            ** At the MAIN MENU, press "H" for Help. Doing this will
  91.            load TRUEDOC.COM (self displaying document file for
  92.            TRUEMENU).

  94.            TRUEMENU is a SHAREWARE program. If you like it, please give
  95.            copies to your friends and please REGISTER your copy.
