- BCAST SOFTWARE PACKAGE REVISION LOG RECORD
-
- -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
- BCAST SOFTWARE PACKAGE REVISION 1.02 (30 July 1992):
-
- KGRAPH = Version 1.01 { Upgraded }
- BCAST = Version 1.02 { Upgraded }
- MISSING = Version 1.01 { Upgraded }
- FIELDS = Version 1.01 { Upgraded }
- AVG = Version 1.00 { New }
- UPDATEK = Version 1.00 { New }
-
-
- - Changed date formats from MM,DD,YY to YY,MM,DD to help standardize the
- date formats with the archived filename formats.
-
- - Fixed minor problem to load new batch of data after processing new
- dataset(s) in BCAST.
-
- - Added the ability within the KGRAPH high-density geomagnetic data
- plots to shift the screen 14-days to the left to view days which were
- truncated and/or to aid in analyzing approaching recurrent patterns in
- magnetic activity. [KGRAPH is now at Version 1.01].
-
- - Fixed problem which prevented the cursor from scrolling properly when
- maneuvering within the file-selection screen of BCAST for processing
- new datasets.
-
- - Fixed bug associated with deleting datasets while working in
- directories where the database file does not exist.
-
- - KGRAPH can now be run from any directory provided the "BCAST"
- environment variable points to the directory containing KGRAPH (see
- the manual for more information).
-
- - The high resolution plot of geomagnetic activity in KGRAPH will now
- support the option of graphing 27 or 28 day cycles. Press "7" to
- graph with 27-day cycles and "8" to graph with 28-day cycles to aid in
- isolating and aligning periods of recurrent activity.
-
- - Fixed minor bug to permit case-independent acronyms in the
- initialization file (BCAST.INI).
-
- - Added additional permissible acronyms to the BCAST initialization file
- (BCAST.INI) to permit setting preferred defaults to the KGRAPH
- utility. See the BCAST manual (BCAST.MAN) and/or BCAST.INI for more
- information regarding the new acronyms.
-
- - Added ability to save VGA graphics screens in KGRAPH to a GIF image
- file and/or a Postscript compatible file for printing on a laser
- printer. Save screens to GIF files by pressing "G" (for GIF) and save
- to Postscript files by pressing "P" (for Postscript) while viewing VGA
- screens in KGRAPH. Screens can be saved in several different formats
- for printing on two-color printers (ex. dot-matrix). Defaults are
- defined using new acronyms in the BCAST.INI initialization file.
-
- - The utility program MISSING can now be used from any directory,
- provided the BCAST environment variable points to the directory
- containing the database file "datasets.dat". [MISSING is now at
- version 1.01].
-
- - MISSING now reports the dates of the first and last datasets stored in
- the database file.
-
- - The utility program FIELDS can now be used from any directory,
- provided the BCAST environment variable points to the directory
- containing the database file "datasets.dat". By default, FIELDS
- searches the current directory for the format specification file
- "format.fmt" (not the directory given by the BCAST environment
- variable). [FIELDS is now at version 1.01].
-
- - Patched BCAST to properly scale graphs when missing data exists.
-
- - Added completely new utility program to compile extensive reports
- based on numerical averages calculated from the BCAST database file.
- Can compute fixed or running averages for any number of days. The
- utility filename is "AVG.EXE". Consult the users manual ("AVG.MAN")
- for more information. [AVG is now at version 1.00].
-
- - Added new feature to KGRAPH. When viewing the high-density
- geomagnetic K-index data, you can force KGRAPH to replace the dates
- with the appropriate A-indices by pressing the "A" (for "A"-Indices)
- key. This key acts as a toggle. You can therefore restore the dates
- by pressing "A" a second time. You can force KGRAPH to display the
- A-indices as the default by modifying the BCAST.INI initialization
- file to include the acronym "AINDEX-SHOW". See the KGRAPH.MAN users
- manual for more information regarding the new acronyms.
-
- - Added additional acceptable WARNINGS acronyms to BCAST, as follows:
- "FORBUSH" - Potential Forbush Decrease Warning
- "SWF" - Potential HF Radio Short Wave Fadeout Warning
- "MAGPAUSE" - Potential Geosynchronous Magnetopause Crossing
- Warning
-
- - Added additional acceptable ALERTS acronyms to BCAST, as follows:
- "PROEN100" - Proton Enhancement Alert at > 100 MeV
- "MAGPAUSE" - Geosynchronous Satellite Magnetopause Crossing
- Alert
-
- - Added completely new utility program "UPDATEK" to the BCAST software
- package. This program automatically updates all of the planetary
- geomagnetic A and K indices to more accurate (corrected semi-final)
- values based on the values that were observed 27 days ago. [UPDATEK
- is now at version 1.00].
-
- -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- BCAST SOFTWARE PACKAGE REVISION 1.01 (12 February 1992):
-
- - Fixed minor bug which occurred when attempting to batch process
- non-existant files.
-
- - Completely rewrote the "Process Data Set" section of the main menu to
- provide powerful dynamic file-selection/processing features.
-
- - Enhanced the menu selection procedure to permit fast single-keystroke
- operation within the menus.
-
- - Tweaked appearance of menus and added on-screen version information.
-
- - Added PAGEUP, PAGEDOWN, HOME, and END keyboard support functions while
- viewing graphical charts to permit dynamic movement and analysis
- within the database.
-
- - Modified the "Delete Dataset" function to permit the deletion of
- datasets containing illegal dates. May be useful to help repair
- corrupt datasets within the database.
-
- - Added support for an external configuration file, to permit minor
- customization of the BCAST software and a base structure for future
- customization features.
-
- - Added support for the environment variable "BCAST". Specifically, if
- the variable BCAST is set to the directory path of the BCAST software,
- you may execute and operate BCAST from any directory on your system.
-
- - Optimized program code to help reduce executable program size. All of
- the above features have been added while reducing the overall program
- size by over 5K bytes.
