- BYTES OF DATA. IT HAS TAKEN ME MONTHS TO PUT THIS TOGATHER, PLEASE
- SUPPORT MY EFFORTS BY SENDING IN YOUR REGISTRATION FEE.
-
- SHAREWARE WORKS WHEN THE CONCEPT IS SUPPORTED.
-
- The following files should be on your disk when you get your shareware
- or registered version of the Telecode.
-
- 1.)Telecode.doc (this file)
- 2.)TC.exe (start Telecode)
- 3.)TCRUN.exe (runtime module)
- 4.)TELECODE.run (Telecode program)
- 5.)ACODES.k01 thru ACODES.k04 (Index Files)
- 6.)ACODES.dat (data file..size at distribution 968243 bytes)
- 7.)INSTFRMa or INSTFRMb.BAT (PLACES PROGRAM ON YOUR HARD DRIVE.)
- 8.)ZOO.exe (Extraction program for Telecode.zoo)
- 9.)README.NOW
-
- NOTE:**** Items 1 - 6 are contained in TELECODE.ZOO
- Your hard drive needs appox. 2,000,000 bytes of free space to install.
-
-
- ************************************************************************
- NOTICE-NOTICE-NOTICE-NOTICE-NOTICE-NOTICE-NOTICE-NOTICE-NOTICE-NOTICE
- ************************************************************************
-
- IF YOU HAVE ALREADY CREATED DATA FILES WITH YOUR COPY OF THE SHAREWARE
- VERSION, THE ONLY FILE(S) YOU NEED TO TRANSFER WILL BE==>
- TELECODE.RUN AND TCRUN.EXE .
-
- If you have created data files and do not wish to overwrite them, then
- use the MS-DOS copy command and copy the TELECODE.RUN and TCRUN.EXE
- to the TELECODE directory.
-
- DO NOT use the INSTALL batch files it will over write your
- current data files....
- ***********************************************************************
-
-
-
- !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
- I cannot over state the importance of backing up your files (hard drive).
- All the files in the TELECODE directory are very important.
- You should back them all up regularly, It is in your best interest
- to back up ACODES.dat and ACODES.k01 thru ACODES.k04 when ever you add
- any data to your files. These are the ones that change when you do
- add data. Please backup your files often....
-
- !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

- as follows.
-
- ==> FILES=30
- ==> BUFFERS=30
-
-
- Hard Disk System.
-
- * You may use the install program on TELECODE disk
- or do the following.
-
- * Make a subdirectory on drive C called TELECODE
- Change Directories by entering CD\TELECODE
- When the DOS prompt reads c:\TELECODE
- issue the following command Copy A:*.*
- or B:*.* (depending on your drive)
- then issue the command
- ZOO x Telecode.zoo (Extracts the Files)
-
-
- Please note that all TELECODE files
- and the TCRUN files should be in the same Directory.
-
- To start TELECODE at the prompt enter TC press
- return. Follow Directions on Screen. (Have you read the
- Manual)
-
- MANUAL
-
-
-
- Once you have started TELECODE, you will be presented with the
- main screen. On this screen you will see TEN menu items.
-
- Item # 1 ) Display area codes by state. If you choose this item your
- area code database will be displayed with the state listing in
- the first column of the screen. **** Please note: in the center of the
- screen you see the word SEARCH: with a colon following.
- It is at this point you would type the STATE ABBREVIATION you would like
- to search by. As an example the FL for Florida.(abbrv. at end of DOC)
- The search bar will move to the first Florida listing in the group.
- Then you may use the arrow keys to move up or down in the listing.
- ( use the back space key to delete any mistakes in search parameter.)
- see ## for more Details.
-
- Please note: The speed at which your search takes place does
- depend on the speed of your computer.********************
-
- Once you have found the state you are looking for you may press
- enter to change that record. When you press Enter you will get
- the Update Screen. When Updating screens or Inserting new
- one be sure to fill out the fields.
-
- After the last entry in the update screen, the database will
- adjust your area codes by updating the database.
-
- Note the INS (insert) feature works the same way.
- NOTE the DEL (delete record screen will ask you to press enter to
- delete.)
-
- ESC pressing the escape key will take you back one screen.
-
- Each Additonal DISPLAY menu item works the same Way.
-
- Print Reports: when you pick print items, they begin to
- print immediately. Make sure your printer and paper are
- aligned properly.
- To ESCAPE a print job, press the CTRL key and hold then press
- the ESC key. DO this function three times in succession.
- note:(most printers today have a small amount of memory
- storage built into them. So don't be alarmed if the program
- does not stop printing right away.)
- ** If control-escape does not work, turn your printer off.
- the program will time out and ask you if you wish to abort
- the print job. **
-
- Exit From Telecode: will return you to the DOS Prompt.
-
- DISTRIBUTOR INFORMATION (F-10):MAY CONTAIN INFO ON WHERE
- YOU BOUGHT YOUR SHAREWARE VERSION FROM.
- THE REGISTERED VERSION WILL ALSO CONTAIN YOU REGISTRATION NUMBER.
-
- ## One more note on the search feature. When you enter a letter
- or number, each one you enter helps to locate your search parameters.
- The best way to see this is by picking- Display area codes by location.
- You will note that the data will be alphabetical order on the fields
- you choose. When you enter new data it will go to botton of the list.
- Then when you choose to display by location, area codes, or state they
- will sort by the column you picked. The other columns do not sort,
- only the column you have chosen.
-
- Choose display area codes by location and press enter.
-
- Telecode displays area codes by city loactions. The first city
- that shows up will be ABBEVILLE, GA, 912.
-
- Now you can start entering letters to search by. For instance,
- if you enter the letter F the city listing will jump to the city
- Fabers, now if you continue this process by entering the letter E
- it will jump to Feasterville, continue by entering R it will
- jump to Fergus Falls.
-
- If Fergus Falls is the city your looking for, your finished. If
- not you continue this process or you can use the Up and Down
- arrow keys to Scroll the database.
-
- Some cities have more than one area code. If those of you that
- have two or more A.C. can help me in some sort of designation
- (ie. Queens, Bronks ) of these codes please let me know.
-
- See the Memo field on Alaska and West Va. for additional Codes.
-
- Before printing any reports, first line the top of the page up
- with your printers print head. Then turn off the printer and
- turn it back on again. This will clear any stray codes left from
- your last Program.
-
- Just as on the Main Menu your records will be printed by the
- Selection you have chosen from the Menu. Be sure you have enough
- paper to print the entire report or turn your printer off when
- it prints the section you need, or use the CTRL-ESC sequence.
-
- Portable or Laptop computer users.... If your computer uses LCD,
- Backlighting or Gas plasma screens you may have Difficulty with
- seeing some items. It depends on your particular machine. If this
- happens try using Shift Print Screen to get a copy of the Screen
- your having trouble with. Please drop me a line and let me know
- what screen and the type of machine you are using. This program
- was written for a color system. I have tried to make it as
- compatible as I can, but I only had one Laptop to test it on.
-
- Key Movement..
-
- ESC -- takes you back one screen
- Arrow keys -- move you up,down, left and right.
- Page up -- move up one screen full.
- Page down -- move down one screen full.
- Home -- Top of current screen
- End -- Bottom of current Screen.
- Ctrl Pgdn -- To the end of the file.
- Ctrl Pgup -- To the Beginning of the file.(OR SPACE BAR)
- CTRL ESC -- Done 3 times in succession will stop printing.
