- INTRODUCTION
- ▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀
- Game Library 2 is a library of three games that are fun and challenging.
- The library includes two educational games (State Names and State Capitals),
- and a competition game for two players only (Backgammon). Game Library 2
- is shareware and as such, you are expected to pay for it, if you decide to
- keep it. See the section about registering Game Library 2 elsewhere in this
- document.
-
-
- HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE
- ▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀
- Game Library 2 has been tested on several different combinations of computers,
- display adapters, monitors, and versions of DOS. A minimum of a CGA adapter
- and monitor is required to play. The memory requirements for Game Library 2
- are minimal, well under 256K, and should run on about any PC compatible. To
- be sure though, you should make sure that it will run on your particular
- combination of hardware and software before you make a purchasing decision.
-
- You should have received the following files in the Game Library 2
- package:
-
- - GAMELIB2.EXE - The Game Library 2 program.
- - GAMELIB2.DOC - This document.
- - ORDER2.FRM - A registration order form.
-
-
- USING GAME LIBRARY 2
- ▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀
- Game Library 2 was designed to be very user-friendly. You should be able
- to navigate through Game Library 2 without the need of any documentation.
- But just in case you're having a little trouble, here are the general
- guidelines.
-
- From the menu screen, the arrow keys and the tab keys will scroll through
- the menu selections. Pressing the Enter key will accept the option that
- is highlighted. The Escape key (Esc) is the hot-key for the Quit... option.
-
- On the About... option screen, any keystroke will return you to the menu
- screen. The About... option screen contains a message describing the terms
- of the Game Library 2 program and tells you how to register.
-
- On the Quit... option screen, the tab keys will move the cursor from one
- area to the next. Pressing the Enter key will accept the option that is
- highlighted - Yes or No. If Yes is selected, you will be returned to DOS;
- otherwise, you will be returned to the menu screen. The letters "Y" and "N"
- are hot-keys for Yes and No, respectively. The Escape key (Esc) is also a
- hot-key for the No option.
-
- The State Names, State Capitals, and Backgammon option screens are three
- distinct games. They each display their valid keystrokes on their
- respective screens. A summary of the keystrokes and object of each game
- is given below.
-
-
- State Names:
-
- State Names is an educational game that will test your knowledge of spelling
- the state names for forty-eight of the United States. The computer will
- highlight a state and prompt you for the name. The name can be entered in
- upper and/or lower case, but it must be spelled exactly right. For each
- state name entered correctly, the computer will turn that state green on the
- map. For each state name entered incorrectly, the computer will turn that
- state red on the map. At any time during the game, the Escape key (ESC)
- will return you to the Game Library 2 menu.
-
- State Capitals:
-
- State Capitals is an educational game that will test your knowledge of spel-
- ling the state capitals for forty-eight of the United States. The computer
- will highlight a state and prompt you for the capital. The capital can be
- entered in upper and/or lower case, but it must be spelled exactly right.
- For each state capital entered correctly, the computer will turn that state
- green on the map. For each state capital entered incorrectly, the computer
- will turn that state red on the map. At any time during the game, the Escape
- key (ESC) will return you to the Game Library 2 menu.
-
- Backgammon:
-
- The rules for Backgammon follow the conventional rules of the game and can
- be displayed while playing the game by using the F5 key. Pressing the Escape
- key (ESC) while viewing the rules will return you to the game. The F1 key
- can be used to display a help screen, describing the available keystrokes.
- Pressing any key while viewing the help screen will return you to the game.
- The F2 key can be used to toggle sound on or off. The F3 key and the Escape
- key (ESC) can be used to return to the Game Library 2 menu. The F4 key can
- be used to toggle through the available checker colors for player one. This
- feature is only available on systems with a minimum of an EGA display. The
- arrow keys are used to both select and move a checker. Pressing the Enter
- key will actually accept the selection or the move. After a checker is
- selected, it can be de-selected by pressing the Escape key (ESC) or by press-
- ing the Enter key on the location where it was selected. Only valid moves
- will be accepted by the computer.

- IF YOU ENCOUNTER A PROBLEM
- ▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀
- While we have tested Game Library 2 thoroughly, it's possible that you
- may encounter a situation we hadn't anticipated. If this happens, we
- would be interested in knowing about it so we can deal with it in the
- next release (if there is one) of Game Library 2. Here's how to report
- a problem to us.
-
- Print a copy of your CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files and send it
- along with a note of where you were in the program when the problem
- was encountered. Any useful information such as an error number or
- description displayed on the screen will be helpful. Also include
- the system type and amount of memory on your computer.
-
- If we can't recreate it, we probably won't be able to fix it.
-
- Before you contact us with a problem in Game Library 2, please make sure
- you've read this document thoroughly and that you understand how the
- software should work. Many problem reports which we receive aren't
- problems with the software at all.
