- INTRODUCTION
- ▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀
- Game Library is a library of four games that will challenge your intellect.
- Game Library was initially written to provide users without graphics display
- adapters and graphics monitors the ability to play fun and challenging games.
- The library includes a trivia game (Bible Genesis), a memory game (Recall),
- and two logic/deduction games (Brainiac and Super Brainiac). Game Library
- is shareware and as such, you are expected to pay for it, if you decide to
- keep it. See the section about registering Game Library elsewhere in this
- document.
-
-
- HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE
- ▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀
- Game Library has been tested on several different combinations of computers,
- display adapters, monitors, and versions of DOS. The memory requirements
- for Game Library are minimal, well under 256K, and should run on about any
- PC compatible. To be sure though, you should make sure that it will run on
- your particular combination of hardware and software before you make a
- purchasing decision.
-
- You should have received the following files in the Game Library
- package:
-
- - GAMELIB.EXE - The Game Library program.
- - GENESIS.Q&A - The Bible Genesis question and answer file.
- - GENESIS.REF - The Bible Genesis scripture reference (KJV).
- - GAMELIB.DOC - This document.
- - ORDER.FRM - A registration order form.
-
-
- USING GAME LIBRARY
- ▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀
- Game Library was designed to be very user-friendly. You should be able
- to navigate through Game Library without the need of any documentation.
- But just in case you're having a little trouble, here are the general
- guidelines.
-
- From the menu screen, the arrow keys and the tab keys will scroll through
- the menu selections. Pressing the Enter key will accept the option that
- is highlighted. The Escape key (Esc) is the hot-key for the Quit... option.
-
- On the Display... option screen, the tab keys will move the cursor from
- one area to the next. While in the display type area, the up and down arrow
- keys will toggle the different display types - mono or color. Pressing
- the Enter key will accept the option that is highlighted - Ok or Cancel.
- If Ok is selected, the display type will be set to the option that is toggled
- on - mono or color. The letters "O" and "C" are hot-keys for Ok and Cancel,
- respectively. The Escape key (Esc) is also a hot-key for the Cancel option.
-
- On the About... option screen, any keystroke will return you to the menu
- screen. The About... option screen contains a message describing the terms
- of the Game Library program and tells you how to register.
-
- On the Quit... option screen, the tab keys will move the cursor from one
- area to the next. Pressing the Enter key will accept the option that is
- highlighted - Yes or No. If Yes is selected, you will be returned to DOS;
- otherwise, you will be returned to the menu screen. The letters "Y" and "N"
- are hot-keys for Yes and No, respectively. The Escape key (Esc) is also a
- hot-key for the No option.
-
- The Bible Genesis, Recall, Brainiac, and Super Brainiac option screens are
- four distinct games. They each display their valid keystrokes on their
- respective screens. A summary of the keystrokes and object of each game
- is given below.
-
-
- Bible Genesis:
-
- Bible Genesis is a trivia game with all of the questions taken from the
- book of Genesis. The game is played as Multiple Choice and scores are kept
- for correct and incorrect answers. For each question, the King James Version
- of the scripture with the answer is displayed. The players guess will be
- highlighted and the correct answer will have a "√" by it.
-
- Sound can be toggled on or off by use of the F2 key. The F3 key and the
- Escape key (Esc) are both used to exit the game back to the menu screen.
-
-
- Recall:
-
- Recall is a memory game that challenges the player to recall and enter a
- sequence of lights and sounds that was played by the computer. Each time
- the player correctly recalls and enters the sequence, the computer will add
- one more light to the end of the sequence. The computer begins the game
- with a sequence of one light. Recall can play a sequence of up to 500
- lights if anyone can make it that far. The Recall board consists of four
- corners or lights. The keys that correspond to each light are displayed
- at the bottom left of the Recall game screen. These keys are 7 - upper left,
- 9 - upper right, 1 - lower left, and 3 - lower right.
-
- When the computer is playing a sequence, the Computer box will blink. When
- the computer is expecting the player to enter the sequence, the Player box
- will blink. Sound can be toggled on or off by use of the F2 key. The F3
- key and Escape key (Esc) are both used to exit the game back to the menu
- screen. The F4 key is used to begin the game. The F5 key is used to Repeat
- the computer sequence after a game is over. This will allow the player to
- see where a mistake was made and is not used for a second chance. The
- players score will be displayed in the lower right of the Recall game screen.
-
-
- Brainiac:
-
- Brainiac is a game of guessing and deduction. This is a very challenging
- game that requires the player to examine previous guesses in order to make
- a logical next guess. The computer will randomly select four "colored"
- ("numbered" on monochrome displays) pegs and put them in the upper right
- corner of the game screen. The computers selection will be masked until the
- game is over. The object is for the user to guess the computers selection
- within ten guesses. The computer will indicate how close the player is by
- using different colored markers. Each black marker will indicate that the
- player has a peg that is both the correct color and in the correct position.
- Each white marker will indicate that the player has a peg that is the correct
- color but is not in the correct position. The positioning of the markers
- does not necessarily correspond to the positioning of the pegs. For example,
- suppose the computer selected pegs that were - Red, Blue, Green, Blue.
- Also suppose that the player guessed - Green, Blue, Red, Red. The computer
- would indicate one black marker followed by two white markers (the black
- markers are always displayed first). The black marker would be for the first
- Blue peg, and the two white markers would be for the Red and Green pegs.
- This all sounds complicated, but once you get the hang of it, you will be
- hooked.
-
- The computer keeps high scores based first on the number of guesses, then by
- time. The fewer the number of guesses the better. The maximum number of
- colors (or numbers) can be changed by the player with the F5 key. This will
- make the game more challenging. The game will support up to 9 different
- colors, which comes out to over 6500 possible outcomes. The maximum number
- of colors can only be changed before starting a game. The F4 key is used
- to start the game. The F3 key and the Escape key (Esc) are both used to exit
- the game back to the menu screen. The left and right arrow keys are used to
- position the cursor under the peg that you want to work with. The up and
- down arrow keys are used to change the color of the peg that you are working
- with. The Enter key is used to accept the guess. After the Enter key is
- pressed, the computer will indicate how close the guess is.
-
-
- Super Brainiac:
-
- The keystrokes and object of Super Brainiac are the same as for Brainiac.
- The only difference between the two games is that Super Brainiac adds an
- additional peg for more complexity. The total number of possible outcomes
- in Super Brainiac is over 59,000.

- IF YOU ENCOUNTER A PROBLEM
- ▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀
- While we have tested Game Library thoroughly, it's possible that you
- may encounter a situation we hadn't anticipated. If this happens, we
- would be interested in knowing about it so we can deal with it in the
- next release (if there is one) of Game Library. Here's how to report
- a problem to us.
-
- Print a copy of your CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files and send it
- along with a note of where you were in the program when the problem
- was encountered. Any useful information such as an error number or
- description displayed on the screen will be helpful. Also include
- the system type and amount of memory on your computer.
-
- If we can't recreate it, we probably won't be able to fix it.
-
- Before you contact us with a problem in Game Library, please make sure
- you've read this document thoroughly and that you understand how the
- software should work. Many problem reports which we receive aren't
- problems with the software at all.
