■ Please read all of this document, as it contains information you may wish
to refer to in future. As the instructions for accompanying software may
be lengthy, you should print out this document and refer to it as you
conduct the installation.

██ This file set contains:
The IDEFIX for Mirage EEPROM.
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
██ About IDEFIX:
This is a fix for users who get the message "No SPEA card installed"
when running a display driver that was written by SPEA Software AG.
The problem happens because SPEA-V7 drivers check that they are running on
a SPEA-V7 card. They do this by interrogating the card. If they do not
get a positive response they will not continue. A negative response can
mean that the SPEA-V7 card's ID code is corrupt.
This serves two porposes:
(i) It ensurs that drivers are used only with the correct SPEA-V7 card,
thus avoiding an inevitable communication failure or crash.
(ii) It prevents software piracy by ensuring that only SPEA-V7 customers
benefit from our special software products.
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
██ What to do:
1. Copy the file IDEFIX.EXE to your \SPEA\GDC directory.
2. Log onto your \SPEA\GDC.
3. Type IDEFIX.
This will run IDEFIX, which will write new data to the V7-Mirage card's
identification EEPROM.
If this is successful, you will get the message:
"Identification successfully fixed!".
If the fix is not successful, please contact SPEA UK Technical Support
for further assistance.
NOTE: IDEFIX is a once-only fix.
If it executes successfully, you will not need to run it again.

██ When you have finished:
Store this disk set with your other SPEA disk set(s) for future reference.
If, for whatever reason, you need to install your current release of SPEA
software again, you may need to make use of the software on this disk set.
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
██ In case of problems:
Contact the company from which you received this software.
It is not normally beneficial to bypass this channel.
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
██ For your information:
■ You can view this file in any text editor, such as MS-DOS "EDIT", however
SPEA has its own easy-to-use file viewer, called "SHOW". SHOW comes with
most SPEA software. Use it by typing the following:
SHOW readme
■ The software supplied on this disk set can only be used if you have already
installed the supporting software utilities for the SPEA card you are using.
■ The software in this set, plus a variety of the very latest software from
SPEA Software AG, is normally available via SPEA's international BBS
service, the number for which is:
+49-8151-266-241 (German Head Office)
This service operates simultaneously in 7 languages, 24 hours a day, through
many telephone lines accessed automatically via the above number. You can
browse through our extensive SPEA software library, or download documents
containing our software catalog. We also offer a selection of the latest
manuals for our software, in "PageMaker 5" or Postscript print file format.
We have just launched a BBS service in England. Currently it is operating
as a pilot whilst our main BBS service is ported for use in England. The
number for this is:
+44-844-260365 (UK Regional Office)
■ We generally reccomend that you always use current SPEA Software with your
SPEA product(s). As a guide, you should look for major software revisions
from your SPEA dealer at least once a year, or whenever a major revision of
the software with which you use your SPEA product(s) is released. Using
the very latest SPEA software ensures that you continue to reap the benefits
of using SPEA products to assist you in your work.
■ Although every effort is made to ensure that the installation instructions
for the software in this set is correct, we cannot guarantee the
completeness of the information.
■ Do not attempt to use SPEA display driver software with a version of an
application for which the SPEA software is not specified.
(For example, do NOT use a SPEA Autocad 12 driver with Autocad 11).
■ All trademarks and tradenames mentioned in this text are acknowledged,
in conjunction with those acknowledgements made in your SPEA card manual.
■ This documentation file "README.DOC" is only available if the software is
supplied directly from SPEA Software AG's UK office. It is not available
through any other channels. This is because in the UK, when software is
shipped on disk(s) to customers (under special circumstances), additional
installation information is sometimes required. As further information is
also sometimes available, it is normally included in this README.DOC file.
