  1. Installation Notes
  2.  
  3. (This Read Me file can be seen from the Install program and 
  4. by double-clicking on the ReadMe icon in the Program Group.)

  6. Configuring the screen saver
  7.  
  8. The Installation program installs the screen saver by copy-
  9. ing the program files to your hard disk.  You now need to 
  10. run the screen saver Configuration program to select the 
  11. screen saver and wallpaper options you want.
  12.  
  13. To run the screen saver Configuration program, double-click 
  14. on the screen saver Config icon in the newly created 
  15. Program Manager group.  
  16.  
  17. You can also run the Configuration program by clicking on 
  18. the Screen Saver Setup button in the Desktop Control Panel.
  19.  
  20. You will probably want to reconfigure the screen saver from 
  21. time to time for variety.
  22.  
  23. Uninstalling the screen saver
  24.  
  25. You can uninstall the screen saver and its media files by 
  26. rerunning the Installation program from the CD-ROM and 
  27. selecting the uninstall option.  
  28.  
  29. Password Protection and Security
  30.  
  31. Although the screen saver provides password protection, 
  32. this protection can be readily bypassed by simply rebooting 
  33. your PC.  You should never use the screen saver as a means 
  34. of protecting secret or confidential information.

  36. QuickTime for Windows
  37.  
  38. QuickTime for Windows was automatically installed to your 
  39. system if it wasn't there already.  If you have any 
  40. questions about QuickTime video adapter and sound card 
  41. compatibility, check the QuickTime ReadMe file.

  43. QTW with Compaq Q-Vision:
  44.  
  45. Call Compaq customer service (800-345-1518), 
  46. BBS (713-378-1418), or 
  47. Compuserve--GOCOMPAQ for updated drivers.
  48.  
  49. Scaling QuickTime Movies:
  50.  
  51. If you scale the QuickTime movies up (make them bigger), 
  52. we suggest you scale them to 200%, and not intermediate 
  53. percentages like 147, 183, etc., to avoid adversely af-
  54. fecting the performance of your video playback.  On the 
  55. other hand, you safely may use any percentage you wish when 
  56. scaling movies down (making them smaller).

  58. Minimum System Requirements
  59.  
  60. The screen saver will not run correctly if your system does 
  61. not satisfy the minimum system requirements, which are:
  62.  
  63.      DOS Version 3.3 or better
  64.      Windows Version 3.1 or better (Enhanced mode)
  65.      80386 20 MHz processor or better
  66.      4 MB memory or better
  67.      256 Color VGA or better
  68.  
  69. The Installation program automatically verifies these re-
  70. quirements, so you should not have any problems (aside from 
  71. possible QuickTime problems) if Installation ran successfully.  
  72.  
  73. If your system does not satisfy the minimum requirements, 
  74. you will need to address any problems before running the 
  75. Installation program again.  If necessary, you can check 
  76. your system by running any of the following utilities:
  77.  
  78.      Microsoft Diagnostics
  79.         -MSD.EXE in the Windows subdirectory
  80.      Symantec Norton Utilities' System Info
  81.      Central Point PC Tools System Info
  82.  
  83. Audio Support
  84.  
  85. A 16-bit audio card is recommended for audio support.  An 
  86. 8-bit card may work, but may not play QuickTime videos well.
  87.  
  88. Although the screen saver can run without an audio card, 
  89. you cannot hear sound effects or video sound tracks without 
  90. audio support.  You can obtain low quality audio support by 
  91. using the PC Speaker audio driver, which can be downloaded 
  92. from CompuServe.  This driver can play audio files but not 
  93. video sound tracks.

  95. To obtain this file from CompuServe, type "GO MSUSER", 
  96. select the Microsoft Software Library, search for "PC 
  97. Speaker", and download the file SPEAK.EXE.
  98.  
  99. Multiple CD-ROM Drives
  100.  
  101. The screen saver searches for media files using the CD-ROM 
  102. drive letter that you installed from.  If you have more 
  103. than one CD-ROM drive, be sure to put the screen saver CD-
  104. ROM in the drive you installed from if you want to use 
  105. media files on that CD-ROM.

  107. Norton Desktop For Windows
  108.  
  109. The screen saver is not compatible with the Sleeper screen 
  110. saver program included with Norton Desktop For Windows.

  112. TroubleShooting
  113.  
  114. Virtual memory is essential for running properly in low 
  115. memory situations.  Make sure that virtual memory is turned 
  116. on in the 386 Enhanced Control Panel.
