Domain names are followed by a dot and a suffix that indicates what sort of organisation the domain name belongs to. If it is a company, the suffix is usually .com for businesses in the US or .co for UK companies. Governments use the suffix .gov. In the UK, universities use .ac and schools use .sch. Non-profit organisations use .org.
