  1.     Specifications for running the WebWise CD-Rom.
  2.     
  3.     IBM-Compatible PC's
  4.     486 DXII running at 66 Mhz or higher, with the minimum of 8 MB of free Ram 
  5.     (16 MB recommended), double speed CD-Rom drive or higher, 
  6.     Sound Blaster card or equivalent. 
  7.     Must be capable of running Windows 3.1 or above, with the 
  8.     minimum of 256 colours VGA or Super VGA monitor settings at 
  9.     640x480 monitor resolution.
  10.     
  11.     Apple Macintosh
  12.     25 Mhz 68k Macintosh or Power Macintosh with a minimum of 8MB of free Ram
  13.     Support for 256 colours and sound
  14.     640x480 monitor resolution.

  17.     The WebWise CD-Rom can be copied to your computer and run from the hard disk. 
  18.     The CD-Rom is also designed to run from the CD-Rom itself.

  20.     How to run the WebWise CD-Rom
  21.     
  22.     If you are running windows '95 the CD-Rom will utilise the auto-run facility and
  23.     start immediately.
  24.     
  25.     If you are running windows 3.1 go to File and select Run, 
  26.     type D:\start3_1.exe (where "D" is your CD-Rom drive) to run the 
  27.     WEB Wise CD-Rom. 
  28.     
  29.     If you are using a Macintosh locate the start icon on the 
  30.     WebWise CD-Rom. 
  31.

  33.     Installing the CD-Rom onto your hard disk
  34.      
  35.     You will need at least 80 mbs of free hard disk space.
  36.     
  37.     If you are running Windows 95/98/NT, go to run in the start menu and 
  38.     type D:\install.exe (where "D" is your CD-Rom drive), then follow the on-screen 
  39.     instructions. After The install has finished, click on the start menu, locate 
  40.     the WebWise menu item and select start.
  41.  
  42.     If you are running Windows 3.1, go to File and select Run, type D:\install.exe 
  43.     (where "D" is your CD-Rom drive), then follow the on-screen instructions. 
  44.     After The install has finished, open the Program Manager, locate the WebWise
  45.     program group and double click on the start icon.
  46.  
  47.     If you are using a Macintosh, drag the folder "Copy_to_hard_drive" onto your
  48.     hard drive. Then double click the start icon in the "Copy_to_hard_drive" folder
  49.     on your hard drive.

  54.     Checking the Number of users
  55.     
  56.     The WebWise CD-Rom allows users to access information regarding the number 
  57.     of people who have loaded the CD-Rom on a specific computer.
  58.     
  59.     If you are running Windows '95/98/NT or Windows 3.1 hold down the ALT key whilst Bruce
  60.     the Spider's opening animation is playing. Once the animation has finished a dialogue 
  61.     box will appear giving the amount of times the CD had been played on that machine.
  62.     IMPORTANT: DO NOT hold down any keys while the CD is starting up.

  64.     If you are using a Macintosh hold down the OPTION or ALT key (depending on your                         
  65.     keyboard) whilst Bruce the Spider's opening animation is playing.

  67.     IT Manager's Section
  68.  
  69.     If you are running Windows '95/98/NT or Windows 3.1 hold down the CONTROL key 
  70.     whilst Bruce the Spider's opening animation is playing. This will give details 
  71.     on the browsers and plug-ins included on the CD. 
  72.     If you are using a Macintosh hold down the CONTROL key whilst Bruce the Spider's 
  73.     opening animation is playing.
  74.     IMPORTANT: Please check that the machine you want to install the browser on is 
  75.     supported by IE4 and Netscape 4.5.

  77.     Using the Internet connection on the WebWise CD-Rom.
  78.     
  79.     In the Going Live section, the WebWise CD-Rom will allow you to connect from 
  80.     the CD to the Internet, if you already have a connection on your computer. 
  81.     Using this facility will mean that your computer will need to have enough 
  82.     memory to run both the WebWise CD-Rom and your Internet Web Browser at the same 
  83.     time.

  86.     Recommended 16MB of Ram 
  87.     Windows 3.1 recommended that virtual memory be set to a minimum of 30MB.

  90.     Recommended 20MB of Ram

  94.     If you are sharing the WebWise CD-ROM over the network. We recommend the 
  95.     following:

  98.     PC
  99.     1) Use the installer to copy WebWise to the Hard disk.
  100.  
  101.     2) Use the Properties dialog box to set all the files in the WebWise folder to 
  102.     Read-only. The installer should already set this, but it is worth checking. 
  103.     For some Novell networks, you may also have to set the start.exe to Shareable 
  104.     in the Novell properties dialogue.
  105.  
  106.     3) Projectors write two drivers (DIB.DRV and MACROMIX.DLL)in the Windows 
  107.     directory, so users must have write-access to the Windows directory.
  108.  
  109.     4) Share as normal using Network Neighborhood
  110.  
  111.     NOTE:
  112.  
  113.     If you launch the start3_1.exe when it resides on a Novell server, it is likely 
  114.     that you will receive one of the following two messages:
  115.  
  116.     Cannot find pathname+ projector). Windows needs this file to run (pathname+ 
  117.     projector).OR Problem with file filename
  118.  
  119.     There are two requirements that must be met in order to run WebWise off of a Novell 
  120.     network:
  121.  
  122.     1. The file attributes of start3_1.exe must be set to "Read-Only"
  123.  
  124.     2. The Novell server must be mapped as a network drive on the local machine trying 
  125.     to access the start3_1.exe.
  126.     In other words, you must assign a drive letter to the network volume. To map a drive
  127.     letter to a network volume, please refer to Windows 95 Online Help. Click on the 
  128.     "Find" tab and enter "Map Network Drive" in the first field to locate the relevant 
  129.     information.

  133.     MAC
  134.     1) Drag the Copy_to_hard_drive folder to the hard disk.
  135.  
  136.     2) Turn program linking on in the File sharing control panel.
  137.  
  138.     3) Check all the files in the Copy_to_hard_drive folder to locked using the Get 
  139.     Info dialog box in the Finder.
  140.  
  141.     4) Share as normal using File sharing.
