Like most other mammals, female cats have phases when they are able to become pregnant, called estrous cycles, and these occur several times each year. In temperate regions (areas with cold winters and warm summers), estrous cycles occur in the spring and the summer to allow any cubs to be born when the climate is mild and when prey animals are most abundant.
