Labels: text | screenshot | font OCR: PERUVIAN POT THE CITY OF TIAHUANACO was founded on a plateau near the southern shores of the highest lake in the world - Lake Titicaca on the borders of Bolivia and Peru. To the people of the empire of Tiahuanaco, which dominated the region for several centuries between AD 600 and AD 1000, this city was the center of the world. It was the home of the royal family, and probably the greatest ceremonial center in the whole of the Andes. Feline forms are frequently found in the distinctive pottery of Tiahuanaco. The jaguar, in whose form this stirrup-spout vessel is made, still lives in these arid highlands, although it is more commonly found in humid lowland forest. SEE ALSO
