- Thank you for using EditCON Version 1.1 by Charlie Wiederhold.
-
- This is the update to Version 1.0 of EditCON for Duke Nukem 3D Ver 1.1
- It is still limited compared to what the version for the registered game will
- be, but it does do plenty for you to have fun with your CON files. Some of
- the options held out until the registered version of DN3D comes out are:
-
- > Edit sounds used within the game.
- > Edit messages and level names.
- > Be able to save many configurations and setups.
- > Change enemy actions and attitudes.
- > Blood and other visual effects.
- > Other more "advanced" changes within the game.
-
- Backing up your CON files is not needed if you have this program. Included is
- a feature that will allow you to restore ALL of the CON files to their
- original conditions. This way, if you happen to mess them up editing by
- hand, just use this option to fix them. This does correct ALL the CON files,
- unlike Version 1.0 of EditCON. I GUARANTEE that nothing will go wrong with
- your CON files when using selections within this program.
-
- A WORD OF CAUTION BEFORE YOU BEGIN!!!!!!
- I allow you to enter values that are truly beyond the scope of the game, and
- I will not guarantee that you will get the desired results. I have messed
- around with these values quite a bit, and have come across strange things.
- If you are going to Max everything out, be prepared for some things you don't
- expect. The standard options should allow everything to function normally.
- Beyond these, though, I do not guarantee anything except that the game will
- run. I allow you to enter these extra values because some of the results are
- kinda fun. Enjoy yourself, but be prepared for the unexpected. (* One odd
- result is the shotgun seems to have more trouble killing the guys when it is
- all the way up, than it does at normal. They just bounce around for a while.
- It's great if you really want to have fun with them, but not very effective.*)
-
- Files needed to run this program:
- EDITCON.EXE
- EDITCON.VAL
-
- To install EditCON, just copy these two files into your DN3D directory, and
- you are ready to go. If you have version 1.0, be sure to delete it, or
- overwrite the old copies. In version 1.0, a file named CURRENT.VAL was used.
- This has been replaced with EDITCON.VAL, so you can delete the old file.
-
- System Req's.
- Well... if you can't run this program, then I would bet that you can't play
- DN3D either, so no need to even think about this one...
-
- The menus *should* be easy to understand, but in case of any confusion, here
- is a short listing of the options included.
-
- > Player Info (* All personal items related to the player *)
- > Max Regular Health (* Regular health limit *)
- > Max Atomic Health (* Overall health limit *)
- > Max Armor Amount (* Armor limit *)
- > Armor Start Amount (* Amount of armor you start the game with *)
- > Steroid, Scuba, Holoduke, Jetpack, Boots, Night Vision, Medkit...
- (* The percentage of the item you pick up when you see it *)
-
- > Weapon Info (* Different aspects of the weapons *)
- > Max Ammo (* Maximum ammo for each weapon *)
- > Box Amount (* How many rounds you pick up when you *)
- (* get a refill *)
- > Weapon Strength (* The strength of the weapons *)
- > Blast Radius (* The radius of influence of explosive weapons *)
-
- > Enemy Info (* Enemy strengths and other things *)
- > All enemies in the game (* Edit the strengths of them *)
-
- > Current Setup (* Shows the current setup you are working on *}
-
- > Current Files (* Shows the setup for if you were to play right then *)
-
- > Reset Files (* Resets all the files to their default settings *)
-
- > UDC Chart (* Chart Showing the User Defined Change values. See below. *)
-
- > About EditCON (* A little about the program and its programmer *)
-
- > Exit EditCON (* Exit option. It will prompt you to save *)
-
- The default settings are now highlighted purple, and the arrows start on the
- default settings. This is to give you an idea of how much you are changing
- the different items.
-
- One of the new options when editing items is the UDC option. UDC stands for
- User Defined Change. This is where you can type in a specific value for each
- item. I tried to get a good variety in the standard options, but you may want
- to vary from these. That is what this option is for.
- In options where numbers are the values it is rather easy to see what you want
- to change. But in percentage sections, it is a little tougher. So below is a
- chart of items, and their corresponding number values for 100%.
-
- Note: These need not be greater than 100% (There is no effect).
- (* These values are also listed within the program *)
-
- (* ITEM AMOUNT *)
- Steroids ==> 200
- Scuba ==> 3200
- Holoduke ==> 1600
- Jetpack ==> 600
- Boots ==> 100
- Goggles ==> 1200
-
- (* WEAPON STRENGTH *)
- Kick ==> 10
- Pistol ==> 6
- Shotgun ==> 10
- Chaingun ==> 9
- RPG ==> 140
- Pipebomb ==> 140
-
- (* BLAST RADIUS *)
- RPG ==> 1780
- Pipebomb ==> 2500
-
- (* ENEMY STRENGTH *)
- Trooper ==> 30
- Red Trooper ==> 60
- Pig Cop ==> 100
- Pig Cop Armor1 ==> 75
- Pig Cop Armor2 ==> 50
- Recon Car ==> 250
- Octabrain ==> 175
- Gun Turrets ==> 40
- Ending Boss ==> 4500
-
- Also, it is now easier to flip through menus. In any option, you can just
- hit <ESC> to exit it. No changes will be made if <ESC> is hit. If you are
- being asked for a Yes or No answer, <ENTER> is also yes, and <ESC> is no.
- This should make the menus much easier to navigate.
-
- As I stated before, it is not necessary to back up your CON files when
- using this program, as long as you are using DN3D Shareware Version 1.1 and
- this program. If you are editing by hand, and you happen to mess them up,
- just use the restore option, and you are back in business.
-
- If you are going to play Duke Nukem 3D over the modem or a serial cable, both
- sides MUST have the EXACT same CON files for the game to work. Otherwise the
- game will get out of synch, or some other weird things might happen.
- EditCON makes it rather easy to guarantee that both sides will have the same
- CON files if you both make the same changes.
-
- Again, thanks for using EditCON Version 1.1. Please, if you find any bugs,
- (there are none that I know of), contact me and tell me. If you like this
- program, that great!! Tell me about it, and give it to your friends who have
- Duke Nukem 3D. This software is free. I do not want any money for it, and
- distribute it with the hope that it will be left in it's original condition.
- If you are interested in how I wrote it, contact me, and I will give you a
- little bit of info. THANKS!
