WADED v1.20
DOOM Map WAD Editor
───────────────────────────────
Programmed by Matthew Ayres
WADED REQUIRES A MOUSE, A VGA VIDEO CARD,
AND AT LEAST 550K CONVENTIONAL MEMORY!
ALL NODES GENERATOR BUGS FINALLY FIXED!
WADED is a complete DOOM map editor. It's full featured, it can edit
everything you need to, including THINGS, LINEDEFS, and SECTORS. The other
important aspects to a map, SIDEDEFS, SEGS, SSECTORS, and NODES are all
handled by WADED internally. So, you don't have to worry about them
whatsoever.
WADED also includes many automated features and commands to make map
additions, editing, and starting from scratch easy. It's interface is best of
all map editors, easy to use, and completely mouse controlled. A wall texture
viewer and ceiling/floor tile viewer are included.
Building SEGS, SSECTORS, and NODES that DOOM maps require to run can
be done by WADED. WADED is quite fast at generating them, and let's you watch
it graphically as it goes along.
There are a lot of features and aspects to WADED, and it's highly
suggested that you read over the documentation. WADED doesn't yet have
on-line help, and there is probably a lot you'd miss (and a lot of questions
you'll muster up) if you don't read over it.
A great deal of time went into writing WADED (and it's documentation).
So if you really like it, please consider registering it. If you're serious
about making DOOM maps, then you'll be using it a lot, and you'll appreciate
the benefits of registering and the support you'll get (and of course that
fabled good feeling inside).
Please remember that a mouse, a regular 256k VGA video card, and at
least 550k of conventional memory (also known as lower or base memory, that
good old 640k barrier) are required. I'm not going to take the time right now
to explain how to get at least that much memory, but it isn't usually that
hard. I personally have 630k free. I'd suggest reading up on some other
sources if memory is your problem. Of course, WADED doesn't require anything
more than that, so feel free to use your XMS or EMS memory for a cache,
ramdrive, or whatever else you're using that memory for.
Much more is to be done with WADED, so expect to see later versions to
be coming out soon. Also, your help is needed in expanding and making WADED
better, so please report any bugs (no matter how small or big), ideas,
comments, etc. as soon as you can! Try to bare with any bugs you find in
WADED (there are none that I know of currently), and please be patient with
the documentation... for it could have a mistake or misprint that I'm unaware
of.
Please rememeber that ID software has requested that you don't write
maps for the unregistered copy of DOOM. In my personal opinion, I don't
really care what you do. The key word in ID Software's is "request", go read
the files included with DOOM. So, as far as I know, it's legal, but they'd
rather you not. Regardless, if you haven't bought this fine game, you might
want to consider it! The makers definetly deserve to be payed for the work
they've put into this game.
