M O N S T E R P O W E R
Program by Scott Elder
Text by Fender Tucker
Have you ever wanted to drive the
big rigs? Not out on the highway
with a heavy load to slow you down,
but at the speedway where you can use
your 1000 horses to slop through mud
and impress the screaming fans in the
stands? I bet you have.
Well, now you can, because
MONSTER POWER will bring the speedway,
mud and all, right into your living
room. There are actually three
events to MONSTER POWER, the Tractor
Pull, the Mud Bog, and the Monster
Truck.
When the program boots up the
speedway will scroll from left to
right. You can speed up the scrolling
by pushing the joystick in Port #2
right or left. When the event you
want to play is showing, press the
firebutton. Then select the number
of players who will be competing.
When you are ready, press the
firebutton and make an attempt for a
high score. The players take turns.
Each player gets two attempts before
the event is over and the scoreboard
shows. You can then play the same
event or choose another. To change
the number of players or start the
scores over, press the RESTORE key.
In every event you need to use
the firebutton to control the motor
speed, which is displayed on the
tachometer. When you rev above the
red line, you run the risk of blowing
your motor. If you are getting close
to blowup, the heat indicator will
flash. A blown motor will cause the
oil light to come on and the attempt
is over -- just like in real life.
Here are some specific strategies
for each of the events.
Tractor Pull - Pull back on the
joystick to back the tractor to the
weight sled. Rev the motor to
move.
As soon as you are hooked, push the
joystick forward and rev the motor
as much as you dare. Try to get as
far down the track as you can before
the weight box overwhelms you.
Mud Bog - Wait for the start light to
come on, then rev the motor and
push the stick forward. You must
steer right and left to keep in
bounds. If you get too muddy, you
might not be able to finish.
Monster Truck - Wait for the start
light, rev your motor and push the
stick forward. Watch the overhead
view because the truck tends to
wander a bit.
Note that the start light is on a
white pole to the front of the
vehicle.
With MONSTER POWER your life-long
dream of driving the big rigs and
pulling down major cash is only a
short diskload away. Well, maybe the
part about the major bucks is still
but a figment of the imagination, but
don't be surprised if you are tempted
to join the nearest Truck Driving
Academy. If the LOADSTAR Tower ever
crumbles, that's where I'll be
heading. See ya on down the road,
Jack!
