WORLD BIRD CARDS 1
by Jane M. Voskamp-Jones
It has been a long while since I
sent in some Card Art for GEOS, so you
might not remember where you last saw
some. If you want to find them, you
can dig them up on this previous
Loadstar issue - 5 Forest and 2 Cones
Cards on issue #195.
I hope that you will enjoy these
World Bird Cards, and maybe even use
them. They have provided me with many
hours of pleasure whilst creating
them, and a lot of special people tell
me that they love receiving the cards
from me.
WHO MADE THE BIRDS
The pictures fn World Birds were
sent to me by Roger Detaille, whom all
Loadstar readers know hails from St.
Therese in Quebec, Canada. The Birds
had obviously been scanned in by
Roger, using the HandyScanner64 along
with the PageFox Cartridge. Several
years ago, when I received the
graphics, Roger said that I could use
the graphics in any way that I liked,
for my own personal use and pleasure.
Well, I certainly did that, and
many of my family members and friends
have enjoyed the beauty of the World
Birds in the form of the cards that I
have made. I asked Roger whether I
could share them with Loadstar GEOS
users, and he has been kind enough to
give the okay provided that I change
the art just a little. No Problem
Roger, and thanks a lot for the art.
There are lots more Birds,
Flowers, Cartoons, and even Orchids in
the Art that I have here. If you want,
I will share as many as I can with
you, so that you can have as much fun
on your Commodores with GEOS as I{SHIFT-*}do.
ABOUT THESE FILES
Most of the pictures of the Birds
were rather large, so I thought that I
should make the Birds overlap to the
left, to make the Card one that you
have to open out the credits back page
to see the complete Bird. The pictures
remained clearer that way, rather than
compressing them down, and losing
detail in the process. These days I
have even begun coloring in the cards
with glitter gel pens, and the
reaction among receivers has been
fantastic. They all wanted to know how
I have managed that - shhh, don't tell
that I cheated will you.
Some slight editing was required
on the pictures, after which ScrapCan
v1.3+ (a Nate Fiedler program) was
used to compile the pictures together
on a single geoPaint page as you see
them presented here.
Since my purpose here was to make
Cards, some graphics needed to be
flipped on the X-axis, and some on the
Y-axis before they were ready to be
used. I used Paint Rotate, (a
shareware program by Spike Dethman) to
accomplish this feat as most were
larger than the geoPaint drawing
window. ScrapCan v1.3+ pretty much
handled the pasting to get the graphic
positioned on the card front.
GeoPaint was used to add the new
look corners for the inside of the
cards. The inside card corners were
obtained from the Border Series1 by
JMV Grafix. The fonts used for the
text were LW-Zapf (PD from GeoWorld
#3), and Border Font (Loadstar64 #95).
And naturally, the text on the inside
of the cards was typed in geoPaint,
after which it needed to be flipped on
both the x-axis and the y-axis using
the edit tool, so that it could be
read correctly after the card is
folded. All pretty simple really.
The text file was compiled using
The Write Stuff v2 for C128 (an Eric
Lee program), using the BB Speller
feature in a 1750 REU for spell
correction.
As usual, I had lots of fun
compiling these Cards. My whole
Commodore and GEOS system keeps
working at its best for me. Just the
way I like it.

[DAVE'S NOTE]: As before, I have
translated some of these images into
standard C-64 graphics, for the
non-GEOS folks among us. You can see
the result on the Run It for this
file. The GEOS files are Wraptored for
copying convenience.
