THE LS LETTER DROP CONTEST
Text by Dave Moorman
As of this writing, I have one "lucky"
contestant. Of course, anyone who does
the work can by as lucky as Stephen
Beigle, from Erie, PA. He sent a 5.25
inch disk packed with 122 quotes. I
don't know what the extra two are for.
Maybe just "protection!" Anyway, Steve
has earned himself a year's worth of
LOADSTARs.
And [YOU CAN TOO!]
(Do check the end of this text for an
interesting problem Steve found -- and
how to fix it.)
This is my FAVORITE kind of contest --
[EVERYBODY] can win. I need hundreds
more quotes for a big Leter Drop
product we are working on. So I turn
to you, loyal LOADSTARites, to find
and type up pithy platitudes.
Here's the deal:
10 Quotes = 1 Issue of LOADSTAR
This can be added to your subscription
or the issue can be any back issue in
our vast LOADSTAR Library. (See the
"Fine Print" at the bottom of this
article.)
So, copy Letter Drop Writer to a work
disk, dig out your Bartlett's, and get
cracking. We won't worry about an
occasional repeated quote. (Of course,
if everyone sends in the exact same
TEN QUOTES, we will have a problem!
But don't worry; we'll call.)
[MORE FUN] Those who write in a
language other that English are
welcome to send in quotes, too. Why
not make this an international
stumper!
Put your Quotes on a disk and send
it to:
LS Quotes
PO Box 44
Holly, CO 81047
by August 31, 2003. Be sure to include
your name and a phone number.
(Anything I receive before September
15 will be considered. But don't trust
the mail!)
Emailers -- you can attach a D64 or
D81 disk image file to an email to:
revdave6@rmi.net
Same deal as above, just, like,
TOTALLY electronic!
[THE BUG STEVE FOUND]
The Letter Drop Writer, published on
LS 223, saves files as "L/D.*". The
Letter Drop program on 222 and this
issue read files with an "LD.*"
prefix. HOW COULD FENDER DO THIS TO
ME!
The fix is to write a little program
that will read each "L/D.*" filename
and Rename it with the "LD.*" prefix.
I have been working on a Directory to
Basic Basic routine, so look at Zero
Page BASICS in this issue for a
tutorial and working version.
OR -- send in the "L/D.*" files as
they are. I will gladly convert them.
Just [HURRY]!
