Galaxian took the classic Space
Invaders a giant step forward. Not
only did the twitching aliens move in
formation and lob back deadly
missiles, now sortees of suicide craft
turn and engage in a rear holding
action.
Action. And color! Video games
were coming into their own. On the
home front, sophisticated color and
sound brought much of the coin-op
excitement right into the living room
television set or computer monitor.
This game appears to be ported to
the C-64 from another platform,
possibly Apple II. Note that the very
restricted explosions are square edged
-- and smaller than the VIC II
Moveable Objects. The action is a bit
sluggish, and pretty much what made
the arcade version a great hit.
But that was the way with
commercial software in the hurly-burly
days of multiple platforms. Like the
flying intergalactic ships, computer
games were finding their wings.
