THE LOADSTAR HOME TOWER
by Dave Moorman
When you receive this issue, the
LOADSTAR Home Tower is officially
ready for orders! We have worked like
crazy to get this product up and
running throughout the summer -- and
we are ready to Rock and Roll!
There are two ways to get a Home
Tower.
1) Get the whole kit and cabootal
from us:
* PC Tower (the hardware) with
At least 2 Gigabytes Hard Drive
CD-ROM drive
3.5 inch Floppy Disk Drive
and Plenty of RAM
* A XE1541 Cable
* 64HDD (the PC software)
* 64HDriver (the C= software)
* The COMPLEAT LOADSTAR CD-ROM
all loaded, configured, tested and
ready to use. Just plug it to your
C-64/128's Serial chain and you are
ready to go.
The price is $200 plus Shipping and
Handling. Send a $50 deposit. We will
call you with the shipping cost.
Please allow 6 weeks for delivery.
2) Get the small stuff from us:
* The XE1541 Cable
* 64HDD (the PC software)
* 64HDriver (the C= software)
* The COMPLEAT LOADSTAR CD-ROM
* A fully automated Boot Disk
You will need to find/use your own
PC, which must have at least 1 Gig of
Hard Drive space, a 3.5 inch Floppy
Disk Drive, and a CD-ROM Drive.
You will then connect the cable, put
the CD-ROM in the Drive, put the Boot
Disk in the 3.5 inch drive, and power
up the PC. In a bit, you will hear a
beep. Remove the 3.5 inch disk and
reset the PC. You are ready to go!
The price for the Home Tower Software
Kit is $65, which includes S/H. If you
have an XE1541 Cable, the Software
Only is just $50, including S/H.
Note: Some PC's will need an X1541
Cable. If you get the cable from us,
we will gladly swap with you if
necessary.
As you can see, if you want a
worry-free, already configured and
tested device, we are glad to do it
for you. If you have a PC or can get
one on the cheap (get a 80486 66 Mhz
or better processor, with MS-DOS
installed), then you can save some
bucks. Putting together LOADSTAR Home
Towers could be a good project for
clubs or individuals in large market
areas.
I have had a good question asked:
Will the LS Home Tower work with a
C-128. The answer is YES! The Tower
itself will work with any C= computer
that uses the serial bus.
However, at this time, 64HDriver,
the program that automatically
configures the Tower to the devices on
your serial bus and lets you browse
through the Tower, is C-64 only. C-128
users can use 64HDriver to locate and
"attach" Tower disk images to the C=,
then reset and use 128 mode to load
and run 128 programs. (We are
interested in a 128HDriver that does
everything in 80 column mode. Anyone
want a real challenge?)
Last but not least, I plan to be
at the 2002 Chicago Expo to (most
importantly!) Meet YOU! I will also
show off the Tower, sell software, and
take orders.
Hope to see you there!
