SOFTDISK Publishing picked up a
few educational programs from Learning
Technologies and we'll be presenting
them to you in the next few issues.
They are programs aimed at elementary
and pre-school level kids, with an
emphasis on graphics.
SHUTTERBUG'S PICS has terrific
bit-map images and a great premise.
Shutterbug, a friendly bear, takes two
pictures of one of his animal pals. He
will show you the first one then flash
the second one on the screen for about
three seconds. There will be an item
missing from the second picture. Then
Shutterbug will show you four items
and you are to pick the missing item.
While I am the last person to know
what's good for little children, I
imagine that pattern recognition is
pretty important. I know my own
daughter could have used this program
when she was little. I would send her
off to find something for me and she
never would find it, even when it was
right under her nose. When she was
looking for something for herself,
though, she had no problem. Hmmmm.
Maybe there's another factor involved?
SHUTTERBUG'S PICS has quite a few
animals and items so your child can
play a long time. It only ends when
you press F7. The interface isn't
real responsive, so be prepared to
hit some keys more than once. When
you hit F7, your score will be shown,
then you are asked if you want to
play again or quit. Quitting does
not return you to LOADSTAR.
