[BASTARD OPERATOR FROM HELL]
SERVERS UNDER SIEGE V1.0
AN ELECTRIC HAREM PRODUCTION IN 2002
MANUAL
[The Story]
Take the role of a BOFH as you
arrive late at work to find your work
place overrun by a group of insane
activists. They have ordered
personnel to leave, taken all work-
stations and servers as hostages and
set up bombs in the network equipment
closets. Of course, this makes you
boil with wrath and the only logical
course of action seems to be waging
war on the activists single-handedly.
[The Mission]
Your goal is to combat the
activists leaders at the sixth floor
and finally reclaim the servers room.
But first, you must defuse the bombs
in the network equipment closets.
Search the activists you have killed
for extra weapons, first aid kits and
bomb defusing instructions (from
technicians in green uniform.) Also
seek useful tools from the building.
[How to Play]
You see the BOFH, and the
surroundings from an overhead view.
For control, use the Joystick in Port
2 or the keys:
QWE
A D + SHIFT
ZXC
Press Up/Down to walk forwards/
backwards and Left/Right to rotate
Left/Right. Fire Button uses the
currently active weapon.
[Other Key Controls:]
[M] - Music On/Off
[Q] - Quit Game (when Paused)
[V] - View Defusing Instructions
[1-9] - Select Weapons
[SPACE] - Select Next Weapon
[STOP] - Pause Game
[Status]
The Status Line at the bottom of
the screen shows
* your score
* healt,
* time until the bombs explode
* number of
bombs,
activists
computers remaining,
* your currently active weapon
* ammunition left.
[Weapons]
1 - Fists
2 - Cat-5 Whip. This can be found
in the IT Engineer's Room on
the second floor, to the left
of the lobby staircase.
3 - Electric Drill
4 - Crossbow. Hold down Fire to
aim, release Fire.
5 - Pistol
6 - Shotgun. Makes more damage
when you manage to hit with
all pellets (in close range.)
7 - Submachine Gun
8 - Flame Thrower
9 - Grenades. Hold down file to
increase throw strength and
release to throw.
[The Enemies]
Enemies can be identified from the
color of their uniforms:
Dark Grey - Fist-guy
Light Grey - Pistol-guy
Red - Shotgun-guy
Light Blue - Submachine gun-guy
Cyan - Crossbow-guy
Green - Technician
Black - Leader
[Defusing Bombs]
From each technician you get one
letter for each closet containing a
bomb. There is a 3-letter code that
indcates (as first letters of the
color names) what three wires must be
cut. The order doesn't matter, but
cutting any of the four [wrong] wires
will result in detonation of the bomb
(and all the others, because the bombs
contain an ethernet interface :-) )
[Defeat/Victory]
The Game is lost if the BOFH dies,
or if the bombs explode. You have won
when all bombs have been defused, the
leaders have been defeated, and you
are standing in the server room, still
alive.
[Hints]
* As technicians see you they try to
run away. It might be hard to find
them again if you let them go!
* Try to sneak up on an enemy from
behind.
* Conserve ammunition by punching or
whipping unarmed activists. Silent
methods of attack will not attract
enemies like flamethrowing,
gunfire, or explosions will.
* The Crossbow is at its best when
enemies have not noticed you yet.
* Use Grenades with caution: they can
cause much damage -- also to you!
* If an enemy drops a First Aid Kit
an you are already at full health,
try to remember the place. You
will need it later! Same goes for
ammunition (there is a certain
maximum of bullets you can carry.)
* Every time you go Up/Down stairs
reduces time by 5 seconds.
Therefore, try to plan your route
with minimal floor changes.
* Be prepared when you enter the
sixth floor. The Leaders might
have powerful weaponry.
* If you win, bonus is awarded for
survived computers. Servers are
considered especially valuable, so
try to persuade the leaders to
exit the Server Room and combat
them outside.
* If you defuse a bomb without all
the leters (by guessing), you
receive an additional 10000
points. This is not really
recommended, ujless you're running
out of time...
[The Map]

Closing Words (by Lasse)
BOFH: SERVERS UNDER SIEGE is based
on an actual building and the BOFHs
who work there. They don't combat
violent paramilitary activists, but
face other no less formidable trheats
each day :-) All the respect to them
and their work!
This game uses some routines and
ideas from the cancelled DETECTIVE
TAKASHI, so it didn't go entirely to
waste!
Greetings to all who are still
active with the C64; especially Roman
Chlebec, Milo and Malte Mundt, Volker
Rust, Jason Kelk, Richard Bayliss,
Lorin Millsap.
