STARGAB
Welcome to another thrilling issue
of Loadstar!
This month's background music is
The Policeman's Song by Gilbert and
Sullivan. It was transcribed for the
Commodore 64 by Joe Garrett.
In this issue, you will find some
<f5 for more>
really hot programs. First of all,
we have WORMSHOT. As a loyal (and
lone) gunner, you must protect your
glorious city from the perils of
killer worms and meteor showers. All
you have is your laser-cannon and the
city's laser-constructed defense wall.
It just so happens that killer worms
love to eat defense walls (something
in their past really makes them take
offense to them!). As long as you can
protect your city, the battle goes on!
When your city is destroyed, you must
turn your laser-cannon in to the
Association for the Prevention of
Killer Worm Abuse (actually the game
is over and you may get to enter your
initials into the WORMSHOT Hall of
Fame!).
Another hot item this month is a
machine-language version of the Shell-
Metzner Sort. Using this routine, you
can cut sorting times dramatically!!
For a true comparison of sorts, see
the SORT COLLECTION program in the
PAYLOAD section of this issue. You'll
be amazed at the increase in speed!!
This month we would like you to take
some time to fill out the LOADSTAR
survey. When the results of this
survey are in, we hope to be able to
serve you and your needs better. Try
to answer all questions that pertain
to you or your interests. Remember,
it is through your input and comments
that we get an idea of how we're
doing!
