  1.            COMPUTER GENERATED VIEW OF MOUNT MCKINLEY

  3. This unique presentation of Landsat MSS data of Mount McKinley
  4. (Denali), Mount Foraker, and the Alaska Range was created using
  5. Digital Elevation Model (DEM) data from the National Cartographic
  6. Information Center of the U.S. Geological Survey 
  7.  
  8. This perspective (or oblique) view was generated by draping
  9. Landsat digital satellite MSS reflectance data over the digital
  10. elevation data to simulate viewing the terrain from a specified
  11. observation point 15,000 feet above the Tokositna River.  The
  12. perspective view image is derived by applying a perspective
  13. transformation to the input scene, and then outputting those
  14. points in the transformed image that are visible from the
  15. observation point.  Colors used in the published print are
  16. similar to the "false" color-infrared shades seen on Landsat
  17. color compsites generated from three black-and-white spectral
  18. bands.  Artificial blue sky was generated and added to the
  19. perspective image.
