- The accompaning rootfs_720.gz file is the new rootfs based on the 720 NetBSD
- release. To handle the increased program sizes and to leave some free space
- the rootfs has been increased from 8MB to 10MB, 20480 Blks. Use this increased
- size when following the installation instructions in the FAQ or written by
- David Crooke.
-
- I built this rootfs from scratch using the following items. The 720 release
- binaries uploaded by Markus Wild in the incoming directory. The latest /etc
- files from sun-lamp. Various files from the old rootfs, in particular the
- /dev, /var, /root, /lib & /kern directories. The original 720 kernel.
-
- In the process of setting up this rootfs, I also tried to incorporate the ideas
- suggested by various people on the mailing list. These included turning off
- networking and placing helpfull tools in the /usr in the rootfs. The tools
- in /usr should hopefully make it easier to install the rest of the NetBSD
- system. Look at the README.setup file in the rootfs for more details.
-
- The new /etc from sun-lamp made it much easier to turn off the networking.
- I also placed some *.EXAMPLE files in /etc to help get you started with
- the networking setup if you decide to try turning it back on. The main files
- you will have to edit are: myname, defaultdomain, hosts, netstart, gateways,
- resolv.config, hostname.* and exports.
-
- The one file you will want to edit, even if you don't use the networking
- setup, is the /etc/myname file. This file contains the name of your node, the
- default is "myname".
-
- The localtime file is linked to /usr/share/zoneinfo/US/Central, since that is
- the timezone I live in.
-
- The passwd file has been trimed and a non-root account, guest, has been setup
- for your use. The guest home directory is in /home on the rootfs.
-
- I hope this rootfs will make it easier for more people to use of the Amiga
- implemetation of NetBSD. Thanks to Markus Wild and all the other people that
- have worked on this project.
