  1. This is the file "getting-NetBSD" from the NetBSD-Amiga distribution.
  2. It describes the possible ways of getting NetBSD-Amiga.

  13. 1. Obtaining NetBSD-Amiga
  14.  
  15. Currently it is only possible to get NetBSD-Amiga via 
  16.  
  17. o Ftp
  18. o BBS
  19.  
  20. This situation may change in the future, because Ty Sarna
  21. (tsarna@endicor.com) will eventually produce a CD-ROM. DON'T write to
  22. him and ask him, when this CD-ROM will be released. There is no time
  23. set for this CD to be available, because we cannot say, when such a
  24. distribution will be useful. Currently the kernel changes quite fast,
  25. so a CD-ROM might get old very quickly :-)

  27. If there is enough demand, Guenther Grau (s_grau@ira.uka.de) is
  28. willing to distribute NetBSD-Amiga in Europe on several different
  29. media, including tapes and magneto-optical discs. A distribution on
  30. Floppy-Disks is quite unlikely, but if enough people want it, he might
  31. be willing to set up even a floppy-distribution, as he likes
  32. NetBSD-Amiga being available to the largest community possible. So, if
  33. you want to obtain NetBSD via any media in Europe, please write to him
  34. and tell him exactly, what media you would like.

  37. 2. Ftp-lists
  38.  
  39. 2.1. Ftp-list for NetBSD-Amiga
  40.  
  41. NetBSD-Amiga was not written from scratch but is a port of the
  42. NetBSD-current sources from agate.berkeley.edu. To start his port
  43. Markus Wild took a snapshot of this archive and made all the necessary
  44. changes to get it run on the Amiga. He didn't reintegrate his changes
  45. to the sources, because he wanted to be sure to have everything
  46. working stable before doing so. About half a year after the initial
  47. port, things had settled down a bit and almost everything seemed to
  48. work stable. Chris Hopps (chopps@emunix.emich.edu) begun to
  49. reintegrate the changes that were made back into the main-source-tree.
  50. Therefore every mirror of NetBSD-current should now also contain the
  51. current sources for NetBSD-Amiga. In theory you only have to get the
  52. whole source tree, do a 'config AMIGA' and 'make' and then wait for
  53. the new system to be built. This should provide you with the current
  54. kernel and all the current binaries the come with NetBSD-current.
  55.  
  56. Therefore the old mirror-sites for NetBSD-Amiga will not carry any
  57. sources of the system any longer. Instead they will carry the sources
  58. and sometimes binaries for Amiga-specific applications like X-Windows
  59. server and clients and so on.

  61. I tried to compose two ftp-lists. The first one lists all the mirror
  62. sites of agate.berkeley.edu and the second one lists all NetBSD-Amiga
  63. specific sites.

  281. NetBSD-current sources, which can be found at

  286. The changes made to the NetBSD-current sources to make it run on the
  287. Amiga will be reintegrated into these sources, so that you should be
  288. able to build it from the Current-sources. However, the process of
  289. reintegration is always a bit behind the current development, but most
  290. of the sources you need can be taken directly from the
  291. Current-sources. There are a lot of mirrors of NetBSD-Current, so I
  292. don't include a list here. If somebody wants a list, then go ahead and
  293. create one. If not, mayby someday I will find the time to do so.

  297. There are a few BBS in Germany that do offer NetBSD-Amiga, but I don't
  298. have any phone numbers at hand. If you know of a box, please mail the
