  3. When Emacs/X11 is started up it checks for the existance of the 
  4. DISPLAY enviromental variable, if this is set or if the
  5. -display option is used it will open its own window independant
  6. of the xterm. I use emacs regularly both GNU and lucid emacs
  7. and haven't experienced this problem. It's only when I don't specify the
  8. display is when I get into problems.
