  1. Okay...so I decided to finally break down and try installing the latest version
  2. of NetBSD on my A3000/040 this evening and have run into a few snags:
  3.  
  4. 1) How the **** do you format a new partition?  I've tried using newfs and/or
  5.    mfs, and both of them complain that they don't know the disk type of the
  6.    partition that I want to format.   I'm fairly certain I have everything set
  7.    up correctly with HDToolBox.  In case it's important, my configuration is:
  8.  
  9.    SCSI Device 1:  Maxtor P1-17s, which the first 400Mb or so set up to be
  10.    /usr.  Indentifier is 0x42534444, partition name is BSDD.
  11.  
  12.    (the rest of the disk is for AmigaDOS)
  13.  
  14.    SCSI Device 6: Quamtum 80Mb, with 20Mb of swap, 8Mb root, and the rest
  15.    dedicated to swap space.
  16.  
  17. 2) I am constantly getting the ancient "DMAINTR: should no longer be entered"
  18.    error message whenever disk access occurs.   Any idea what this is and if
  19.    there's any way to fix it?

  21. 3) Just for grins, I attempted to install bin-bin.tar stuff, at which point
  22.    I got: "dmanext at end" (or something like that) and a kernel panic.

  24. Anyone want to take a shot at any of these?
