- |Let me cast a MAJOR NEGATIVE vote to this approach. Even
- |if you don't have slip or a network, there are reasons to
- |still have networking installed. Term is one such program.
- |It is the next best thing to SLIP, and if you are going
- |to modem to the internet from your netbsd machine, you
- |will WANT to use term (trust me :-) And it requires
- |the networking stuff installed. The networking stuff
- |is SMALL and there's no reason to not include it in the
- |rootfs distribution.
-
- Well, never mind then. I was just looking for a way to get the
- disk requirements and memory requirements reduced. I am in no position
- to buy a new disk right now and 100MB is all I can spare for the
- time being. Anyhow, it looks like others thought this a bad idea
- too. Sorry I jumped to conclusions so quickly. I should have read
- the rest of my mail first.
-
- Yes, I do want to use term. I am just waiting to compile it when
- I can use all 8MB of my RAM instead of just 4MB. I compiled screen
- and that took 1.5 hours! I will wait to do term when the situation
- improves.
-
- The zlib idea sounds good to me though. Perhaps this could be
- controlle from an environment variable so that users could turn this
- on as needed? Just an idea....
