  2. Just for thrills, I ported my own, independent X11R5 server "Xami" to
  3. NetBSD last weekend (generic monochrome sample server).  After
  4. tweaking it all week and this weekend, it is starting to look pretty
  5. complete.  Required less than 100 lines of new, well placed code; works
  6. on an unmodified 709 kernel.

  8. Anyways, the question is, with the very nice "French" (?) version
  9. already out there, is there anybody out there who is interested in
  10. another server?  (just the server itself since existing clients,
  11. libs, etc., should be compatible).  Or a very minimal X setup?

  13. If so, I could upload it next weekend so someone could help me test it
  14. out.  Being monochrome, it has the advantages of being small (500k)
  15. and fast.  (Visions of x11perf/xstones/otherXbogusbenchmarks wars :-).
  16. No plans to tweak the cfb Pixblit routines for ecs yet though.

  18. Or would that just confusing and a waste of disk space and bandwidth?
  19. If so, I'll just keep it to myself and be quiet.  I plan to get a new
  20. graphics card as soon as I figure out which one (spectrum?), and would
  21. really like to have X11 running on it (my real motivation for doing my
  22. own port: guaranteed support).  Maybe then would be a better time.
