- I finally figured out how another country can invade the U.S.
- I'll start first with Russia because I saw a videotape
- (named below) that gave me these ideas.
-
- What America should do is license the technology from Russia
- for their CIRCUS BUILDINGS. Then we could have a Russian Disneyland
- in the United States. The Russian Circus Building would be
- Russia's Invasion Headquarters inside America just as Disneyland
- is America's Invasion Headquarters inside overseas countries.
- It's also a place that Russian tourists could go and stay
- if they were traveling with their KIDS. This way their kids
- will feel at home even though they are in a strange new land.
- CIRCUS BUILDING you say??? Are you nuts?
-
- Well if you see the video you'll see that the Circus in Russia
- is excellent. And they don't have their circuses outdoors
- under the Big Top. Instead, in Russia, they've built highly
- specialized ELEGANT buildings. These buildings have built in
- hydraulic systems to reconfigure the building for Hockey
- and other functions & not just the circus. A Russian circus
- building has a very sophisticated architecture.
-
- The Russian circus is great. The aerialists remind me
- of Ballet because of all the special lighting tricks &
- aerial dancing that they do.
-
- Two places in the U.S. where Russian circus buildings could be
- built are Los Angeles and New York. I don't know
- where a good location is in Los Angeles to build one but in
- New York I'd build it in Flushing Meadows. That's where the
- World's Fair was in New York in 1964.
-
- Once Russian circus buildings are built in the U.S. then
- we'd be able to see the Russian circus troupes just as they
- appear in Russia. We'd also be able to see visiting Chinese
- acrobatic troupes, European circus troupes, and other
- world traveling groups. Even The BIG APPLE circus.
-
- I got these ideas from the videotape:
-
- "INSIDE THE SOVIET CIRCUS
- a National Geographic special
- produced in cooperation with WQED Pittsburgh, PA
- (March 9, 1988)
-
- AND yes, you'll see in the video that CLOWNS are
- held in high regard in the Russian circus business.
- Another interesting thing in the video is how the
- audience claps. They clap in unison.

- Get the Picture?
- -------------------------------------
-
- I saw an unusual book recently entitled:
-
- "Photographs for the TSAR --
- the pioneering COLOR photography of
- SERGEI MIKHAILOVICH PROKUDIN-GORSKII
- commissioned by Tsar Nicholas II"
- (the Dial Press; Garden City, New York; 1983)
-
- It covers COLOR photography in RUSSIA in the
- years prior to World War I (circa 1904 - 1918).
- This book doesn't have page numbers
- but inside you'll see a beautiful color photo
- of a couple "Making Hay at Volkhovo"
- that looks like a Monet painting.
-
- It's also amazing what you can learn about
- the past from old photographs.
-
- Related to this... I live in a very old building.
- It dates back to the 1890s. And several months (years?) back
- someone (the landlord probably) threw out a very old picture
- because it was water damaged & smelled. It was a picture
- of a building in Washington, DC that had a horse drawn
- carriage in front of it. I took it from the trash
- and I tried a few cRaZy ideas to try to repair it but I
- ended up ruining it because I didn't know how to recover
- old photographs. I probably should have looked in the
- telephone book or in a magazine like MACWORLD.
-
- If I had been smart I would have set it aside and waited
- until I had access to a scanner so that I could scan it into
- my computer.
-
- I think I'll still be able to get a copy of this photo
- though because it looked like it was a mass produced
- photograph. It had a paper backing and not tin or zinc.
- I know that the:
-
- AMERICAN ANTIQUARIAN SOCIETY
- 185 Salisbury Street
- Worcester, MA 01609-1634
- (508) 755-5221
-
- Sells copies of OLD and Antique photographs for reasonable prices.
- They have old sheet music from the MINSTREL SHOWs and other eras
- throughout American History. I've also heard that
- WALTER CRONKITE is a member of that society.
-
- The American Antiquarian Society has been written up in the New York
- Times, and it is America's OLDEST National Historical Society.
-
- It's close to the Worcester Polytechnic Institute, too.
- And the Worcester Art Museum.
-
- It's also a reasonably short drive beyond SPAGS,
- that great GENERAL store, where all the METAL HEADS go
- to buy their Fisher Metal detectors. SPAGS is neat
- because it has a very broad range of goods. It's neat
- and clean compared to the discount stores near me.
- SPAGS is on Route 9 in Shrewsbury, MA. It's on the
- right hand side of Rte 9 as you head out of Boston.
- It has markings on its roof. Going to SPAGS is like
- digging for treasure. You never know what you're gonna
- find there. I found 2 super sportshirts from Indonesia
- for about $10 and a 16 oz can of STRAW MUSHROOMS for 89 cents.
- They also have gardening equipment, cheeses, household goods,
- you-name-it.
-
- IF you're a METALHEAD who lives outside of Massachusetts
- and you want to buy a metal detector, you should write to:
- FISHER RESEARCH LABORATORY
- 1005 I street,
- Los Banos, CA 93635
-
- Since I'm talking about INDONESIA...
- If you're thinking of traveling there
- I highly recommend the Travel Guide entitled:
-
- INDONESIA
- for the sophisticated traveler
- produced & edited by Eric Oey
- INSIGHT GUIDES
- (Apa Productions; Singapore; 1985)
- Has great photographs throughout.
- You can almost travel there just by reading
- the tour guide. A real pleasure to read.
- It even covers the island of BALI that
- is famous for being the location where
- the movie SOUTH PACIFIC was filmed.
- "Some enchanted evening"... I'll get there myself, too.
-
- If you're wondering where I got alot of my cRaZy ideas,
- I read the Christian Science Monitor newspaper for
- ten straight years. And I learned alot about the
- world that I never saw written in a local paper.
- Write to this address if you would like a

- Not sure how to be creative cooking chicken?
-
- Here's about the easiest recipe I've ever seen for
- a fancy chicken dish:
-
- 2 lbs chicken wings (split in half)
- 1 cup HALU-HALU sauce
-
- MARINATE the chicken wings for a few hours
- OR overnight in refrigerator.
- PLACE on a broiler pan and
- BROIL 15 minutes each side until brown,
- basting constantly with the drained off marinade.
-
- And VOILA! REAL FOOD.
-
- I got this out of a HALU-HALU recipe pamphlet.
- HALU-HALU is an Oriental Stir-Fry Sauce & Marinade.
- They also make SARI oriental marinade.
- And SUMI the All Natural Oriental Teriyaki Barbecue Sauce.
- And MANI the All Natural Peanut Barbecue & Table Sauce.
-
- The address for obtaining recipe pamphlets
- is on each bottle. OR write to:

- If you want to see a REAL circus,
- you should see the Shriner's parades whenever they are
- in town. They're amazing.
-
- They have their fun for a VERY good cause.
- For they run the SHRINER's BURN INSTITUTEs in Boston
- and elsewhere with the money they make throught their
- various functions.
