Written in AMOS Basic by David Boucher (C) 1991
WARNING: Playing this game can seriously damage your mouse buttons!
The alien hordes are attacking the city! Can you, armed only with
a high power laser cannon, stop the aliens breaching the city's
defensive shield and attacking it's inhabitants? Can you defend the
city through twenty attack waves? Can you earn the title:
DEFENDER!
Using your laser crosshairs fire energy bolts at the attacking
aliens. But beware! Repeated blasts cause the laser to heat up, when
it overheats a safety cut-out prevents it firing until it has cooled
down.
The aliens will repeatedly fire energy torpedos at the city's
shield depleting it's energy. When the shield matrix is completely
drained shots will be able to reach the city itself, destroying the
city in a massive thermonuclear explosion!
That's the plot done with, now the serious stuff like...
LOADING THE GAME!
^^^^^^^ ^^^ ^^^^^
Simple: double click on it's icon and the game will load and run,
that's it!
AND PLAYING IT!
^^^ ^^^^^^^ ^^^
PLEASE NOTE: You can run Defender from AMOS Basic but it will not
work in versions below 1.3
Defender is controlled entirely using the mouse. Each button does a
different thing in each mode:-
MODE LEFT MOUSE BUTTON RIGHT MOUSE BUTTON
^^^^ ^^^^ ^^^^^ ^^^^^^ ^^^^^ ^^^^^ ^^^^^^
TITLE SCREEN START GAME QUIT DEFENDER
IN GAME FIRE LASER PAUSE
WHILE PAUSED UNPAUSE ------------------
When the program runs it will try to load the high score from a
file "DEF.HSC" on the current disk. If it cannot find this file it
will set the high score to zero. If you beat the loaded high score
the program will try to save your new score upon exiting. If for any
reason it is unable to save the file it will pop up a message telling
you of the problem (e.g. write protected disk) and give you chance to
retry (if the error can be recovered) or cancel.
The panel at the bottom of the screen gives you your current
score, attack wave (stage) and high score. The two meters give shield
strength and laser temperature. The shield strength can also be seen
by the colour of the shield (bright red=strong dark red=weak). In the
same way the laser temperature can by seen by the colour of the
crosshair: the redder the crosshair the hotter the laser.
You will occasionally see a grey sphere with a 'S' on it, This is
a smart bomb, shoot it to destroy every alien and bullet on screen,
but be quick or it will disappear again!
Right that's the instructions done with so onto the useless stuff
like...
