-- Installing Voodoo --
To install Voodoo, just click on the Install script. You can also just
run it from the directory. The Installer will copy the ClassAct libraries
to your system and optionally install AmiPOP and Sabot for you.
I encourage you to first check the integrity of the Voodoo binary using
PGP. First run this file through PGP to check the signature of this text,
and to add my public key to your keyfile. If you did not already have my
key, PGP will first complain that it can not check the signature. In
this case, you will first have to add my key to your keyring (that is what
PGP will ask you to do next), and then check this file again.
My key ID is 600/6F0DDE09, and the fingerprint of it is 83 F1 9B 47 5C CB
70 C6 36 E4 6D BE 46 57 05 BC. Please check that these match the key in
this file.
Now that you have my key, you will be able to check Voodoo. Run the command
"pgp voodoo.sig voodoo" in Voodoo directory to compare Voodoo to the PGP
signature. If PGP says that the signature matches, the binary has not been
tampered with. You are now ready to install Voodoo.
Oh, one thing. Voodoo's mail folders are _not_ files. They're directories,
with every message in a separate file. Keep that in mind while configuring..
If you want to import your old UNIX mailbox format mail folders (such as
those from AmigaElm) to Voodoo, that can be done simply by configuring that
file as the mail spool file and then "get new mail". Make a backup of the
folder first, since Voodoo will wipe the spool file after import.
-- Sending mail (SMTPpost) --
One thing not included in this distribution because of distribution
restrictions is a mail delivery agent for sending messages out from your
machine. I would recommend SMTPpost from INetUtils, on Aminet as:
IU-14-as225.lha comm/net 387K+AS225r2 SMTP/NNTP utilities v1.4 INetUtils
IU-14-amitcp.lha comm/tcp 392K+AmiTCP SMTP/NNTP utilities v1.4 INetUtils
Helpful notes about installing SMTPpost can be found in Voodoo.guide if
the INetUtils documentation is not sufficient.

in this distribution.
-- About security --
Security and privacy have been important goals for me while writing Voodoo.
I hope you will find Voodoo acceptable in this respect. If you have any
comments on these, or any other issues, I'd be happy to hear them.
The registered version, Serious Voodoo, implements the PGP/MIME standard,
presently at the level of an Internet Draft, that will enable you to apply
encryption and digital signatures to even MIME multipart messages in a
simple and straightforward fashion. If you're interested in finding more
about the PGP/MIME specification, a good starting point is
<http://www.c2.org/~raph/pgpmime.html>.

If you read this within the USA:
Voodoo contains hooks to cryptographic software. While Voodoo was completely
written OUTSIDE the United States of America, by a person who is and has not
been a citizen of the USA, and was originally imported to USA from abroad,
re-exporting it MAY violate the ITAR weapons export regulations.
Please contact your elected representatives and tell them you oppose the
ITAR regulations as applied to cryptographic software.
If you are NOT within the USA, or you are NOT a US citizen:
To avoid creating problems for the adminstration on FTP sites, please
download Voodoo from a site OUTSIDE the USA.

PS. Don't forget to check the Voodoo Web page for any recent developments.
The URL is <http://www.niksula.cs.hut.fi/~oahvenla/voodoo/>. Voodoo also
has a mailing list devoted to it. If you want to get on the mailing list,
send a message to <majordomo@warped.com> with the text "subscribe voodoo"
in the message body.
