-
-
-
- The Complete Sales Package of Symphonie is planned for 1996 (Incl. printed manuals).
-
-
-
- Symphonie is non destructive (Samples)
- Symphonie runs on A1200/A4000 and on Amigas with turboboard + OS3.0/3.1
- Try Symphonie out on your desired system before you actually register (!)
-
-
-
- A A1200/4MB 32BIT FASTMEM IS A MINIMUM SYSTEM FOR SYMPHONIE.
- (The authors system ! Smile )
-
-
-
- Symphonie hints:
- ===============
-
-
-
-
- Lack of memory, memory fragmentation or other problems could cause
- following errors:
-
- Memory Protection Failure ? (pink screenblanking)
- -------------------------
- -> You get some Hex Numbers (in Assist)
- Check your memory state (c:avail)
- Reset your Amiga as soon as possible.
-
-
- No Buffer Memory Found ?
- ----------------------
- Reset your Amiga as soon as possible.
-
-
- Other Bugs:
-
-
- Graphical Bugs ?
- --------------
- Reset your Amiga as soon as possible.
- (report to the author)
-
- Enforcer Hit ?
- ------------
- (report to the author)
-
- Turbocard Problems ?
- ------------------
- (report to the author)
-
-
-
-
-
- Dsp Section ?
- -------------
- For more natural results: Please use an external Studio DSP.
-
-
- Midi ?
- ------------------------------------------
- Why not once use Midi for Editing (not yet ready to implement)
-
-
- The Sound does suddenly stop ? (2.3c)
- ----------------------------
-
- LOWER the System/Freq.
- (or select low power audio modes: Left, Right, Oversampling 9Bit)
-
-
- The Mousepointer does freeze while playing ?
- ------------------------------------------
-
- Release 2.3 has a different Sync System -> Just Set System Buffers to 4
- for more smooth mousemovement/ Graphical Update.
-
-
-
- How to get maximum quality ?
- -----------------------------
-
- (0. reset your machine to clean up memory fragmentation)
-
- 1. Make sure you select a 30Khz screen mode (e.g. Euro72Hz, Multiscan ...)
- or you will not be able to play higher rates than 28Khz
-
- 2. Select Audio Mode 14 Bit
-
- 3. Load your desired module
-
- (always remember: If there are no large fastmem chunks symphonie
- may take chipmem instead -> symphonie gets slower )
-
-
- How to get maximum Speed ?
- ------------------------
- If you like high quality set PREFS:SYSTEM/MAX PROC VOL to 99.
-
- If you like high Speed set PREFS:SYSTEM/MAX CALC VOL to 49.
- - Symphonie plays all Samples above 49% Volume at 100%)
- - CPU is 30% to 50% faster ! (SyPro)
-
-
-
-
- There is a strange delay while playing over the keyboard
- --------------------------------------------------------
-
- For realtime performance you should reduce the MENU:Prefs/System/System Buffer
- to 4. But for playing songs you ought to put System Buffers as high as possible !
-
-
- There is disturbance because the sound is too loud
- --------------------------------------------------
-
- Decrease MENU:Prefs/s. Preprocessor/Sampleboost by 10 and RELOAD(!) the module
-
- If a certain song does use DSP then the sound may be louder than a song not using
- the DSP (general rule)
-
- Standard values:
-
- Sampleboost
- -----------
- 8 Channel module : 100%
- 12 Channel module : 125%- 175%
- 16 Channel module : 100%- 125%
-
- 8 Channel mod/DSP : 40%- 80%
- 16 Channel mod/DSP : 80%- 100%
-
-
-
-
- 14 BIT = 16 BIT ?
- ---------------
-
- The Render quality with a soundcard is of course much better than over
- Amiga's Paula chip. Moreover Soundcards may also have multiple postoversampling
- reducing noise even more.
-
- 16 Bit ist not enough if you work with 16 Bit Samples. Internal Resolution: can be upto ca 64Bit.
- But, due to non destructive Sample handling, there is no loss of quality. (Samples)
-
-
- Known Paula Sound Problems:
- - Noise
- - Not shielded (diskdrive clicking is audible)
- - No LP Filter at 20 Khz
- - No Post Oversampling
- - Max Audio DMA Rate is Screenmode dependent
-
-
- Soundcard support Today ?
- -----------------------
-
- Some Audiohardware existing today is supported.
-
-
- Realtime: 1. Amiga Internal 14 Bit, ScreenMode dependent
- (2. Toccata 16 Bit, Max 48 kHz, Planned !)
-
-
- Non Realtime (Playing to a File = Audio Rendering)
-
- 1. All Soundcards supporting at least one format of the following:
-
- - Maestro (Toccata, Samplitude)
- - Maud (16 Bit iff) by Macrosystems
- - Wave (PC) by Microsoft
- - Raw 8/16 Bit
-
-
- 2. Via "Sox" (Sound Converter) ?
-
- - Other Formats
-
-
- Surround
- --------
-
- Existing Modules may produce "interesting" FX if played on a
- Surround Decoder.
-
- Ways to create Surround Sound:
-
-
- 1. Sample based : Invert Sample by using |I| Operation. (Phase Shift 180°)
- (Hint: Load a Stereo(!) Sample and invert one Part
- or do a "Virtuel Clone".)
-
-
- 2. Channel based : Use Negative Values on Channel Volume (Phase Shift 180°)
- Symphonie Pro Only !
- Seq: |CV| command
- (e.g. "CV:=-100%" does a 180° Phaseshift on all Samples
- played on a certain track)
-
-
- 3. Other Phase Positions can be reached via the instrument commands (?)
- e.g. FROM, FR&P, FSET, SAMPLEVIB
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
- 256 Channels ?
- ------------
-
- If there is an out of memory error (Symphonie quits at once), decrease
- the number of patterns from 64 to 1 and retry.
- (256 Channel mode needs 64K per pattern)
-
-
- Samples ?
- -------
-
- All Samples are handled non destructive (No quality loss in any way)
-
- Symphonie supports:
-
- 16 Bit Wave Samples (found on PCs) by Microsoft
- 16 Bit iff Samples (MAUD) by Macrosystems
- 16 Bit Maestro Samples created with Samplitude
-
- of course in Mono and Stereo ...
-
- Symphonie supports multiple (-XPK-) packed Samples. (Great Work !! U. Mueller)
- I'm still waiting for a 16 Bit Deltapacker for the xpk lib.
- Feel free to contact me for sources if you don't know how it is done.
-
-
- Modules ?
- -------
-
- Most Modules are Freeware and FD. Some are PD.
- Some are for Private pleasure only!.
-
-
-
- 16 Bit Sound in Multimedia, Games and Demos ?
- -------------------------------------------
-
- Multimedia: No Problem, You could use rendered Modules
-
- CD Games: You could use rendered 16 Bit Modules as CD-Audio Tracks
-
- Demos: Well, well better take PT Mods...
-
-
-
- --------------------------------------------------------------
- --------------------------------------------------------------
-
- WARNING:
-
- ADJUST THE MONITOR FREQS O N L Y IF YOU EXACTLY KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING.
- IF YOU ARE NOT SURE WHAT FREQUENCIES ARE ALLOWED, ASK YOUR VENDOR.
-
-
- WHILE TRYING OUT THE DSP SECTION, PLEASE USE SHORT, NON-LOOPED SAMPLES.
- OR SET THE SAMPLE PREPROCESSOR VOLUME LOW, FOR AS THE OUTPUT SIGNAL
- DOESN'T GET TOO HIGH.
-
-
- IF YOU PLAY SOUNDS AT HIGHER RATES THAN 28KHZ YOU DO IT AT YOUR OWN
- RISK, AS THIS DMA MODE IS NOT OFFICIALLY DOCUMENTED.
-
-
-
-
- --------------------------------------------------------------
- to run Symphonie Jr/Pro Demo you need:
