  2. /Using the Function Keys
  3. Press F1 again for more help or SPACE to exit

  5. The available function keys appear at the
  6. bottom of the screen. They are :
  7.  
  8. F1 - Help. Press F1 again for more help.
  9. F2 - Change the default directory.
  10. F3 - Select - move the cursor among the
  11.      hypertext concepts.
  12. F4 - View -  display hypertext for the
  13.      concept under the cursor.     ... pg down
  14. F5 - Evaluate - enter commands in an edit
  15.      window while an application is running.
  16.      Press ESC to execute the commands. This
  17.      key may be disabled in some knowledge
  18.      bases.
  19. F6 - Debug - displays a menu of the topics
  20.      contained in the knowledge base.
  21.      entered. This key may be disabled in
  22.      some knowledge bases.
  23. F7 - Calls the KnowledgePro editor. This key
  24.      may be disabled in some knowledge bases.

  26. F8 - DOS - Enter a DOS command. Type "exit"
  27.      to return to KnowledgePro.

  29. F10 - Quit - Quit the current application or,
  30.      if not inside an application, quit
  31.      KnowledgePro.

  33. These keys may also be selected by moving the
  34. mouse cursor over the key in the message
  35. window and clicking either button.

  37. /Select a Knowledge Base
  38. Press F1 again for more help or SPACE to exit
  39.  
  40. All knowledge bases in the current directory
  41. with a suffix of .KB or .CKB are shown on the
  42. opening menu.
  43. - To select from the menu move the cursor
  44.   using the cursor control keys or select the
  45.   first letter of the knowledge base then
  46.   press <ENTER>. If you have a mouse you can
  47.   point and click to select a knowledge base.

  50. - To enter the name of a knowledge base not
  51.   on the menu press <SPACE> then type in the
  52.   full file name (including path and drive).

  54. /Answer a question
  55. Press F1 again for more help or SPACE to exit
  56.  
  57. There are three different ways you can
  58. provide information to a knowledge base :
  59.  1] select from a pop-up menu
  60.  2] type a one line response
  61.  3] enter text in an editor window.
  62. To select from the menu move the cursor using
  63. the cursor control keys or select the first
  64. letter of the answer then press <ENTER>

  66. When you're asked to select more than one menu
  67. item, move the cursor to each menu item and
  68. press <INS> or press the right mouse button.
  69. A small diamond will appear to the left of the
  70. item to indicate that it has been selected.
  71. Reselecting a selected item will remove the
  72. diamond.  Press <ENTER> or the left mouse
  73. button when all items are selected. The item
  74. under the cursor is always selected when the
  75. <Enter> key or left mouse button is pressed.

  79. To enter a response to the => prompt type the
  80. response at the prompt and press <Enter>
  81.  
  82. When a pop-up window appears, you will have a
  83. full text editor to allow you to type in your
  84. response.  For more information on the text
  85. editor, press F1 for more help and then select
  86. "Editor" from the pop-up menu.

  88. /Display a message
  89. Press F1 again for more help or SPACE to exit
  90.  
  91. When you're finished reading a message, press
  92. <SPACE> to continue or, with a mouse, point and
  93. click on the word "Space" at the bottom of the
  94. screen. When a message is more than one page
  95. long, use PgUp and PgDn to scroll through it.

  97. /Highlighted Text - Hypertext
  98. Press F1 again for more help or SPACE to exit
  99.  
  100. As messages are displayed some areas of text
  101. may be highlighted or underlined. There
  102. highlighted concepts are "threaded" to more
  103. information about the concepts.  To display the
  104. threaded text, move the menu bar to the
  105. highlighted concept you want to select using F3
  106. or the mouse. Press F4 or the mouse button to
  107. view the thread.

  109. /Using a mouse
  110. Press F1 again for more help or SPACE to exit

  112. To select from a menu, point to the item and
  113. click the left button.  To select more than one
  114. item, point to each item and press the right
  115. button.  Each selected item will be marked with
  116. a diamond.  When the last item has been marked,
  117. click the left button.  The item under the
  118. cursor is always selected.  To remove a
  119. diamond, reselect the item with the right

  121. To select a hypertext thread point to the
  122. hypertext concept and click either button.

  124. To select a command from the message window
  125. point to the command and press either button.
  126.  
  127. To page through messages or menus longer than
  128. one page, point at the Pg_of_ message in the
  129. lower right of the screen and click the left
  130. button to page forward and the right button to
  131. page back. The mouse can also be used in the
  132. editor. (See editor help).
  133. /Editor
  134. Press F1 again for more help or SPACE to exit
  135.  
  136. To call the editor, press the F7 key. This
  137. key may be disabled in some knowledge bases.
  138. The editor uses many of the same commands as
  139. WordStar and the Turbo Pascal Editor.  To
  140. leave the editor press ESC.  You will be
  141. asked if you want to save your file.

  205.    Leaving the editor
  206. ESC  Leave the editor - You will be asked if
  207.      you want to save your file.
  208. The mouse can also be used in the editor. Press
  209. the right button while the mouse cursor is in
  210. the editor window to bring up a pop-up menu of
  211. all the editor commands. Select a command by
  212. pressing the left button. To move the text
  213. cursor, point to the desired location and click
  214. the left button. To scroll the edit
  215. window in any direction, point at the border
  216. and click either button.
  217. /Find and Replace
  218. Enter a string to be found in the file. If
  219. you are replacing text, you will be prompted
  220. for a the replacement text. You will also be
  221. prompted for options. Valid options are:
  222.  
  223. B  - Search backwards from the current cursor
  224.      position
  225. G  - Global replacement
  226. n  - number. Find the nth occurrence of the
  227.      search string

  229. N  - Replace without asking
  230. U  - Ignore case when searching for text.
  231. W  - search for whole words only.

  233. Multiple options can be specified.

  237. /Save a Knowledge Base
  238. Press F1 again for more help or SPACE to exit

  240. Press <ENTER> to save or <ESC> to avoid
  241. saving the knowledge base.

  243. /Display the Knowledge Base
  244. Press F1 again for more help or SPACE to exit
  245.  
  246. When F6 is pressed, the topics contained in
  247. the knowledge base are displayed in a pop-up
  248. menu. The hierarchy of the topics is
  249. indicated by the indentation level. When a
  250. topic is selected from the menu, its values,
  251. properties and the commands inside it are
  252. displayed.

  254. /Syntax error
  255. Press F1 again for more help or SPACE to exit
  256.  
  257. An error has occured during compilation.
  258. Press F7 to display the line in error. Often
  259. it's the line above that's at fault.

  261. /Runtime error
  262. Press F1 again for more help or SPACE to exit
  263.  
  264. An error has occurred while running a
  265. knowledge base. Press F10 to abort.

  267. /Garbage Collection
  268. Press F1 again for more help or SPACE to exit
  269.  
  270. The "Collecting Memory" message means that
  271. KnowledgePro is reclaiming memory that has
  272. become inaccessible. If this happens
  273. frequently try removing resident programs.
