These BASIC programs were entered from various volumes of "COMPUTE"
Magazine.
1. QUATRAINMENT: (FEBRUARY 1984, ISSUE 45, VOLUME 6 NO. 2)
OBJECT: Match a pattern generated by the program, using the fewest moves
possible and finishing in the shortest amount of time.
PLAY : Use Arrow keys to change cursor location then press <INS> to turn
appropriate blocks on/off.
Part of your pattern will toggle from on to off, or from off to on, dep-
ending on whether you are in the middle, in a corner or at an edge of the
board. The different ways the pattern can change are shown in examples
displayed on the screen.
When you match the pattern, your weighted score will be displayed
based on elapsed time and the number of moves you made. THE LOWER YOUR
SCORE, THE BETTER.
2. WORM of Bemer: (APRIL 1984,ISSUE 47,VOLUME 6 NO. 4)
Nerm the worm is lost in Bemer Castle and needs your help to get
home. You must guide him through 11 rooms and help him find magic
mushrooms to eat along the way. The journey is navigator's nightmare
because you never know where the next mushroom will grow, and if Nerm
hits a wall or gets trapped by his tail, he loses one of his lives.
At the top of the screen will be the current score, what room Nerm
is in, how many mushrooms Nerm must eat to open the exits, and how many
lives Nerm has left, including the current life. You get 100 pts, plus
bonus points, for every mushroom you eat. Nerm gets a bonus life after
completing the first two rooms and another for every 3rd room thereafter.
3. BLUEBERRIES: (JULY 1984, ISSUE 50,VOLUME 6 NO.7)
A fastpaced strategic game for one or two players. Originally written
for the Atari computer with at least 16k memory, transalated to run on
the IMB PC/PCjr. Two JOYSTICKS ARE REQUIRED.
The blueberries in this version has four stages of development: The Seed
The Undeveloped Berry, The Mature Berry, and The Overripe Berry.
If you pick the berry before it has had a chance to sprout, you have five
points deducted from your score. If you pick an undeveloped berry, you get
25 points. If you pick the berry when it is ripe, you receive the full 50 pts.
If you pick an overipe berry, your farmhand becomes sick and you lose 200 pts.
All the berries ripen at the same time. However, the amount of time required
for the berries to ripen is determined randomly.
THE PLAY:
FIRST: You must plant the seeds for the blue berries. Once they
grow into blueberries you must pick them before they grow into
redberries or rot altogether.
SECOND: In the middle of the screen you'll see the actual playing
field, which is split up into two planting fields. Player-1 plays
on the upper field, Player-2 plays on the lower field.
Try moving the farmers around their fields. You will notice that
you can't go through the bushes separating the fields. If you try
to do so you wall hear a noise.
In the upper right or lower left corner of each field, you'll see a
small shed where the blueberry seeds are stored. In order to get
the seeds you must maneuver your farmer into the shed. Once you
enter the shed you will automatically be placed outside and will
hear a short, razzy sound.
You can now plant the seeds by moving your farmer while holding down
the fire button of your joystick. You will have to return to the
shed periodically to get more seeds, as your farmer can only get
get a limited quantity of seeds at a time.
Picking the blueberries is easier because you merely have to move
your farmer over the berries.
