  4. CAUTION MODIFICATION TO RADIO WILL VOID WARRANTY
  5.  
  6. this mod is for the new dual band HT from radioshack cat#19-1106
  7.  
  8. out of the box the radio will go from 144-148 rx/tx and 438-450 rx/tx
  9.  
  10. the mod will rx and tx from 136-174 and 420-470 
  11.  
  12.  
  13. 1. remove screws from back cover and battery compartment
  14. 2. remove nuts on volume and antenna jaack
  15. 3. unsolder speaker connections
  16. 4. carefully remove entire circuitry from shell
  17. 5. the smaller circuit board will un plug from main board
  18. 6. towards the middle top of the large circuit board their is a black 
  19.     square processor chip. to the left corner their are 2 solder pad jumpers
  20.     that are facing vertical in comparison with the board. to extend rx 
  21. remove bridge 
  22.     closest to right side. (the left jumper will only allow 144-146 and 
  23. 430-440 tx/rxonly)
  24. 7. to exend transmit unsolder the other pad that is horizontal in comparison 
  25. to main  
  26.     board.  (if MARS/CAP is wanted just remove the horizontal jumper and 
  27. leave other   
  28.      alone.140-149rx/tx)
  29. 8.reassemble radio
  30. 9. reset radio by pressing (MF) and (6) key while powering on.

  38. There has been quite a bit on confusion about the HTX-245 wide band mods.
  39.  The current .txt file on the server is at best confusing.
  40.  
  41.  Hopefully, this will help answer some of the questions about performing
  42.  the mods. to this radio.
  43.  
  44.  Start by removing the 6 screws which hold the case together.
  45.  
  46.  Remove the channel and volume knobs.
  47.  
  48.  Remove the nuts which hold the antenna and volume/channel controls.
  49.  
  50.  Unsolder the speaker leads.
  51.  
  52.  Carefully remove the chassis from the case.
  53.  
  54.  Remove the 2 gold colored screws which hold the smaller board to the main
  55.  board.
  56.  
  57.  Unplug the smaller board from the main board and set it aside.
  58.  
  59.  Looking at the main board, there is a uP IC ( large black chip) at the
  60.  top.
  61.  
  62.  Near the upper right-hand corner of this IC are 2 vertically oriented
  63.  solder jumpers and one just to the right of them which is horizontal.
  64.  
  65.  To open wide band TX/RX, open the vertical jumper nearest the IC and the
  66.  horizontal jumper.
  67.  
  68.  Reassemble the radio.
  69.  
  70.  Hold the function key (F) on the side of the radio, the '6' key and the
  71.  'MR' key while powering the radio on.
  72.  
  73.  All memories will be cleared and the radio will be ready for wide band
  74.  programming.  In addition, the 'BAND' function will no longer go to
  75.  preprogrammed weather channels.
