1997 After a strong 1996 season that saw Adrian Fernandez step into the exclusive category of CART race winners, the fifth-year driver was aiming for nothing short of a run at the championship in 1997. Although he did not win any races, he ended the season well with a third position finish at the California Speedway. The result at the California Speedway was the best of the season for a Lola chassis. He finished 18th in the PPG Cup championship with 27 points.
1996 Move to Tasman Motorsports was beneficial as he captured his first career CART victory en route to matching his career-best 12th-place PPG Cup points finish of 1995. His triumph came at Toronto, where he led the final 16 laps and 17 overall. The only other time in his career he led a race was for one lap at Vancouver in 1994. He became the first Mexican driver to win a CART event since Hector Rebaque at Road America in 1982. He had six other top-10 finishes and qualified a career-best second at the U.S. 500 but was unable to start after being part of a multi-cart accident as the field approached the green flag. He established a career-best starting position of third at Detroit and matched that at Toronto.
1995 Returned for a second full season with Galles Racing International and established new career marks. He improved one position to 12th in the PPG Cup championship and toppled his previous career-best race finish of fifth twice. Earned his first podium finish with a third at Michigan and added a fourth at Mid-Ohio. He also topped his career mark for top-10 finishes with nine.
1994 Became the lone season entry for Galles Racing International and competed in all 16 events. He finished 13th in the PPG Cup championship behind eight top-10 performances and had a season-best as well as then-career-best finish of fifth at Road America. Led the first lap of his CART career when he was out in front for a lap at Vancouver. He won the 'Marco Magana' and 'Luchador Olmeca' awards as well as the 'JAC' trophy for 'Best Driver Outside of Mexico' in his native country.
1993 Had an abbreviated rookie season, competing in five events for Galles Racing International as one of its four teams that ran at least a partial schedule. He made his debut at Long Beach and finished 23rd. Top performance came at Detroit, where he took seventh.
1992 Made the move to the Indy Lights series and had a record-setting rookie season. He was named the series' Rookie of the Year after finishing third in the championship. He established new rookie marks for most victories (4 - Phoenix, Detroit, Milwaukee, New Hampshire), most oval wins (3) and most laps led (229 of 598). He also won three poles (Detroit, Milwaukee, New Hampshire).
1991 Captured the International Formula 3 Championship in only his second season in the series. He won the title on the strength of four victories and seven pole positions.
1990 Returned to Mexico to compete in the International Formula 3 Championship and finished series runnerup. He earned two victories and four poles in six events.
1989 Split his racing between the British RAC and Esso Formula Ford 1600 championships and finished among the top eight in both series. He had six podium finishes and two poles enroute to a fifth-place finish in the British RAC championship. Finished eighth in the Esso series.
1988 Competed in the British RAC Formula Ford 1600 championship and finished 11th in the series. Captured three victories as well as three poles at Brands Hatch.
1987 He left Mexican racing and headed to Europe to compete. Ran one race each in the Benelux Formula Ford 1600 and British RAC Formula Ford 1600 Championships. He also raced in the Formula Ford Festival at Brands Hatch.
1986 Finished third in the Formula K championship in his third season in the series.
1985 Moved over full-time to Mexico's Formula K series and finished runnerup in the championship.
1984 Repeated at Mexico's Formula Vee championship. He also raced in Mexico's Formula K series, where he finished fourth overall.
1983 Captured the Formula Vee championship in only his second season. Also completed in Formula Ford 1600 in Mexico and was named the series' rookie of the year.
1982 Competed in his first auto race - the 24 Hours of Mexico - at the age of 17. He was named Rookie of the Year in the Formula Vee class. He finished fourth in the championship with two victories and three poles.
