  3.          Welcome to an Interactive Ghosts Demo

  7. 1. System Requirements:
  8.  
  9. This demo (and the full version) requires:
  10.  
  11. Multimedia PC with 4Mb of memory, 486 processor, 256 color
  12. VGA display, Windows 3.1, compatible sound card and CD-ROM
  13. drive. A fast video card is recommended for improved video
  14. performance.

  17. 2.  Installation:
  18.  
  19. From Program Manager, choose 'Run' from the 'File' menu,
  20. then type:
  21.  
  22.     D:\INSTALL    (replace D with the drive letter of your CD-ROM)
  23.  
  24. then press return. Follow the on-screen instructions to
  25. complete installation. When installation is complete, 
  26. double-click on the Ghosts icon to start the program.

  30. 3. How to move around Hobb's Manor
  31.  
  32. After the opening title sequence, you will find yourself in
  33. the master bedroom of Hobb's Manor. In this demo version, you
  34. cannot leave this room. In the full version of Ghosts, you have
  35. the whole house to explore!
  36.  
  37. Once inside, you can move about by clicking on things that interest
  38. you. You can turn to your left by clicking on the left edge of the picture.
  39. To turn right, click on the right edge.
  40.  
  41. Watch the shape of the cursor as you move the mouse over the image.
  42. For instance, when the cursor is shaped like a magnifying glass,
  43. you can click to see a closer view.

  47. 4. Menus

  49. At the top of the screen is the menu bar. There are three submenus:

  51.     4a. File Menu
  52.         About Ghosts...      Version information
  53.         Minimize             Makes the program appear as
  54.                              an icon at the bottom of the
  55.                              screen.
  56.         Export               Allows text and pictures to
  57.                              be saved to disk for future
  58.                              reference, where appropriate.
  59.                              (not available in this demo)
  60.         Load Position...     Restores you to a previously saved
  61.                              position in the house.
  62.                              (not available in this demo)
  63.         Save Position...     Saves your current position
  64.                              in the house for future use.
  65.                              (not available in this demo)
  66.         Exit                 Ends this program.

  68.     4b. Edit Menu
  69.         Copy                 Allows text to be copied to 
  70.                              the clipboard, where appropriate.

  73.     4c. Options
  74.         Transitions On       Enables the turning movements.
  75.         Transitions Off      Disables turning movements.
  76.         Sound Effects On     Enables door closing sounds, etc.
  77.         Sound Effects Off    Disables door closing sounds, etc.
  78.         Refresh Rate...      This allows you to enter the
  79.                              refresh rate of your video card
  80.                              (See Section 5 below).
  81.         Start Over           Starts the program again.

  84. 5. Machine Configuration (optional)
  85.  
  86.     5a. Video
  87.  
  88.     Video in this product looks best in 16 bit color modes or higher.
  89.     However, video performance may be improved by using a 256 color
  90.     mode.

  92.     Check the documentation supplied with your video card for details
  93.     of the modes available in Windows, and how to choose them.

  95.     5b. Transitions
  96.  
  97.     The quality of the turning movements around the house is directly
  98.     affected by the speed of your video card. The faster the card,
  99.     the smoother the scrolling will be.
  100.  
  101.     Choosing a 256 color mode rather than a 16 bit color (or higher)
  102.     mode may also improve the quality of the turns.
  103.  
  104.     Turning movements on fast video cards may be improved by
  105.     entering the current refresh rate (in Hertz) of the card.
  106.     Use 'Refresh Rate...' under the Options menu to configure this.
